bought this car for ?80 s i needed the engine for my other nova (went pop whiles overtaking a granny :tosser: )

engine bay was almost rust free so i just cleaned it and gave it a lick of paint

got the 1400 sr lump in as i hope to run in the 1400 class and as many people know are good to improve on. got a few plans for the future of this engine too ;)

haha bought this chavy nova for the royal sum of ?50, then sold the windows for ?30 lol
had loads of spares and 4 brand new tyres on astra GTE alloys :D bargain!

when i put the ne gsi shocks and springs on, might be a bit too low.

its all been seald up since and i have been doing other bits and bobs like the gear linkage and repareing the drive shafts etc. next on the case is a lick of paint, i'll update as i progress :D
that welding looks rough as ****, do yourself a favour and have another go at it.
itl do mate, its gona be coverd in a gsi skirt, and it aint for chaving around ;) been grounded back now and coverd in sealant
resprayed the car recently, same colour just makes it look a bit neeter. and also sprayed up my astra wheels. getting fed up with the thing now, cant waight to get it done.

Is that a 1400 8v i see? nice to see someone tuning the small block you can get some nice power out of that keep us updated:thumb:
yea its an old sr engine, 1987 it was made. having trouble at the mo getting around the spi coil wireing :( im am terrable with electrics. if i could fix it with a spanner id be laffing, but im not!
ive got a c14se cylinder head (ported and polished) with re-cut valve seats to go there and a kent 320 duration cam with vernia also :D with a 4 speed f10! its going to be a hand full in the lanes.
im going to take some more pics soon so i'll keep this updated.
some more pics. had to get it out of the garage to turn it. hadnt seen it out in daylight for months, got an auto electrician coming tomorow and its just fitting little bits to finnish it :D

landed, got the auto electrician around today to change the spi coil parts and wire up the sr coil. all singing and dancing now :D
how'd you spray it?
i'd look at plating the underside of the cage mounts. nice car, my road rally nova is a solid car, but the red paint is ****e... needs a respray lol
i've got two sets of those wheels, one in standard silver with yokies on and one set in white with white centres gonna have some colway rally plus tyres to go on :)
i spent a lot of time preping the body work. and then i borowed my mates compressor and gun. didnt come out too bad for my first time spraying. i had to run plastic sheets all over the garage to keep the dust down.
if your paint is faded i bought some excellent cutting compound from spares world.
only ?2.50 and its amazing, putting it on my sisters faded red micra ;)
that lagoon blue nova is related to my first one, mine was J468 TMJ!
rally car looks nice, does it need full interior for the regs? some road rally cars seem to need rear seats and that.
oh, i see it now, it does have full interior..that answers my question :p

what was the cutting compound? mt nova is pretty bad...
its made by carplan! think its called paint retor, but im not 100% would go and check but its in my grans garage ;) was in a thin round tin. theres other good compounds out there, try any paint shop ;)

slight progress at the moment, been busy with christmas and interviews :)
i painted the standard bumpers gloss black and fitted them.
also got the gears sorted and it feels smooth through the gears now. engine is a bit smoky on start up tho, but i should be rebuilding the engine when i get some cash :D

ive also been mesureing up for my sump and tank guard, will be fitting them after christmas.
other plans are to fit a new steering wheel, as i have an odd omp quad one at the mo. its a bit awquard to have full control with thatv shape.
Everything else is almost there now so hopefully i will get it out asap.

the nova died on the m4, look at my thread about it. not 100% about selling, but seeing if your interested. depends of whether i can source a mint shell, preferably a 1.2 to poodle around in then over the summer if i get to keep my engine from the crash, drop that in and start building that up... i'll keep you posted. i'm gutted, going to miss out on this season. your thread makes me sad :(
Got an almost identical goad rally car,bought it with cage fitted,works sump guard,tank guards,mint corbeau sprint seats and 3" fia saebelt harnesses
It had had sh*t respray in synthetic paint and needed new sills and lots of other welding for the m.o.t,did these and resprayed it.got it through the m.o.t but the night before my first rally in it(the welshborder car club "breidden" rally) i rattled the engine:( ...
Next morning engine was out(1400 SR)and i had found a 1400 spi corsa engine,got it home,swapped the head,dropped it in(had to swap the flywheel)got it all built up and went to start it an hour before scrutineering only to find that the starter wasn't engaging the flywheel:confused: so had to give it up as a bad job:mad:
Its spent the last 3 months sat on the drive but ive finally found a replacement 1400 engine for it locally:) and intend to have it up and running by new year ready for next years events
Its got astra 16v brakes with ferodo ds3000 pads and the brake/fuel lines run through the car so i think sorting the suspension will be top of the list of improvements,a nice set of bilsteins i think:)
I'll take some pics of my car and post them in the next week or so

the nova had its mot today and flew through it :D landed!
i will be taxing it later and taking it for a blast up the black mountains and il take some pics of it as it is now :p
