quite a few people have done it Rob, apparently grasstrackers have been doing it for years. And yeh a Zetec would make much more sense
out of interest how much do the zetec engines roughly go for?
a 2.0 Zetec with all ancilliaries can be picked up for £150. Bear in mind that to fit the BC/IB5 gearbox to run in a Fiesta/Escort etc the flywheel clutch and sump need swapping for the 1800 items.
He went C20XE because you can do the clutch in situ ;D
also fitting a 5 speed to the mk1 means cutting thee n/s chassis leg.
yep but well worth doing. A Zetec on carbs with a 5 speed box would be spot on in a Mk1 :thumb:Quote:

and a hell of a challenge as its completely different to the Zetec engines
EDIT: rob is correct with bellhousing pattern, as well as hydraulic clutch and exhaust and inlet being on the opposite sides to the Zetec
so to summarise posts 12 + 13, matt fails again.
Depends what parts you have at your disposal IMO. Cost is always a factor too.
If money was no object a Cosworth 2.3 Duratec on throttle bodies in a Mk1 Fez would be awesome, mounted longitudinally of course lol
a mate of mine wants to ztec his mk2 fiesta, anyone have any info/links for this? i need to tempt him into just doing it!
make sure he never watches the chop shop episode where they did it to a mk3.........Quote:

find a 130 bhp 1800. no need for the 2.0.
as in the RS1800 inlet, cams and ECU. There was a lad with a blue Mk3 track car with an 1800 knocking out 230bhp on ITBs. Apparently the 1800 block is stronger and was bored out to 1927cc for steel high comp pistons
yeh, there are 2 1.8's the 115 and the 130. escort gti's, rs1800, and a few others had em.
pretty sure there are some 105bhp models as well :p
probably. it is ford ffs.... lol
It was always a mod to put the bigger 1.8 16v Orion TB on the XR2 1.8 16v's iirc.
yeh Mk5 Orions had the 130bhp engine too, and were probably more common than the RS1800s.
i got one of those orions for a weekend rental once..... boring as hell to look at, but hilarious to driveQuote:

the zetec was desingned to be an 1800 so the 2.0 are bored 1800s and the 1600s are scaled down thats why ive chosen a 1800 zvh turbo in my series one as to the common 2.1
ever heard of a model range???? they were designed as a 1.6, 1.8 & 2.0 at the same time...... yes, the 1.8 is probably the most common, as is the 1.8 ecotec, but that is because of company car tax etcQuote:

yup, iirc you can overbore a 1.9 to 2015cc but its pointless. if i had a mk1 fez, 2.0 zetec bottom end woth a cvh hemi head and itb's.
Anyone else think he might have just had an XE hanging around, and though meh, it's different?
Without people like him, we wouldnt have Saab turbo Astras in the world, or the plethora of new age 16v old school minis :D
i agree with matt but im still keeping the x flow in my mk1 fez!!
