Offensive England Flags

I'm not one to listen to the sort of tripe that comes out of the Daily Mail, but I now have hard evidence that this is going on and i'm literally boiling with rage.

One of Hayleys work mates was turned away from a nightclub last night because he was wearing an england shirt due it possibly being offensive (was nothing to do with dress code, this is yate... there IS no dress code lol), and then later on today she was in the pub and the landlord showed her a letter he'd recieved from the council telling him not to hang england flags outside his pub due to causing possible offense. Thankfully he screwed it up and threw it in the bin, and I hope other publicans do the same.

How on earth do the government expect to sort out racism whilst doing things like that? Ive never had a huge opinion on immigration etc, but after seeing this absolute rhubarb for my own eyes even I want them out, and they probably arn't even offended by england flags at all. Its just stupid old burgers sat on the council thining that being proud to be english is offensive!

Now I, like probably most of you, hate the wnaker flags that people have on their cars during the world cup, but i'm going out tomorrow and buying a **** load of them for the van (and for the loonaque) and I may even go as far as sticking a poster in the back window of the van saying something along the lines of 'Do my flags offend you? ..... Good!'.

Dunno what the fascination is with all this flag business. What is the problem with people showing the flag of their nation/country/who they support?

As long as no one burns one then I'm sure things will stay peacefull.

Unfortunately, its the Muslims. They find crosses offensive according to the council. Obviously not all muslims, i would imagine its the same radical group who find flying a plane full of people into a building un-offensive.

I think that takes the utter pi$$, They wont tell any forigners (sp) to take down there home flags will they, stuff like that really pi$$'s me off.

But then again it is and english flag lol ........................tis a joke dont take it serious.

I'm English. I don't need to stick multiple flags on my car to show my patriotism.

Mind you, I couldn't give a flying wombat's liver about the world cup. Only that I hope the USA beat us lol

Actually its not; whenever you see people ranting on about racism it always seems to be middle aged white people. Its like some form of self harm perhaps.

Im the same tbh, its just the principal of it. As i said, i've read about things like this in the paper and never believed it, but now seeing it for real makes me angry as fook.

Be it the muslims themselves, or the duffers on the council, they are the reason OR the reason put forward for the cross being offensive.

All legislation like this does is make the British public MORE racist.

I would bet money on normal respectable muslim (or any other for that matter) immigrants wishing the council would stop all this crap because all it does is breed more ignorance. How many meatheads are going to go out and smash a few peoples heads in just because they think anyone who isn't white wants to ban the flag?

If we went to pakistan/iraq/afghan etc (and it was safe to do so) I'm pretty sure we would have to live by their laws and life style. If only the UK grew the balls the Australian prime minister has.

I'm a muslim mate and I hardly find anything offensive, how many radical Muslims do you see on the streets?

Just a few of societies idiots screwing it up for every other decent person out there.

Funnily enough, most Arabic countries are dry. We're expected to abide by their laws on drinking over there (ok, some do make small exceptions, but are still very strict on it)

Exactly my point! How does your average amoeba distinguish a radical from from you? They cant, therefore its made the street more unsafe for you to be on.

Hate to throw a spanner in the works but it's bollocks, The government and police have stated that nothing is offensive about england flags.

It's all rumours to promote anger against other races by the BNP or similar.

Don't get drawn into it and do some simple research before you pop it on a widely used forum otherwise your no better than the racist small minded waste of a white skin that started the rumours or the landlord that chose exerts from the letter to create a stir/make him look better than the law/coloured people.

As Lee said, he has seen this for him self though, and his Mrs saw a letter from the council in a pub.

Well she saw the letter for her own eyes, she's not stupid and knows an official letter when she sees it, and she's got no reason to lie to me Tom.

And this post is not against immigrants, its against the council who create the legislation in the first place.

It's always the case, a small group of people will start a fight coz they lost a match or something and can't take it so they start a fight. Simples.

back a good few years ago when the whole flga craze hit the UK and everyone stuck up their flag on there cars/homes etc my bro, dad and I were stopped by the feds to take down our flag (Turkish) coz it may cause offence. It was ridiculous but what can you do?

How boring and colourless would the world sup be if supported actually at the stadiums weren't allowed to take along their flag? We may aswell remove flags off the internet and in books.

DP you really have to show a flag to start a fight, if some :tosser: wnats to start a fight then I'm sure he can without him needing to see a symbol and colours on a synthtic fibre cloth.

Exactly as you said Lee, our own worst enemy is our own bloody government, they pander to the expected wishes of anyone and everyone in this country apart from the white people, so although the anger towards foriegners in our country is kind of correct, it is misplaced anger!

I've seen the letter and read it word for word as my housemate works in a hotel with a licensed bar and a pub attached. (renound for trouble drugs and hookers and gangs. lol)

It's a generic blanket letter to all licensed premises stating the best way to deal with possible trouble, emergency contacts etc and to keep an eye on shirts with matching names, etc etc gangs and all that boll**ks and also if your premesis is a trouble hot spots (where drink is stupidly cheap etc etc) it advises you don't overly advertise the matches are shown as if you sell cheap beer are in a rough area and are showing the world cup your asking for trouble....

It's nothing as bad as you guys think honestly. It merely advises the roughest of the rough pubs not to put up loads of world cup shizzle.

TBH if I ever got a letter form a council saying it was illegal to put up a flag, I'd be ringing up asking why? It's silly if a council needs to resort to that type of activity.

They've got nothing better to do, probably trying to justify next years A4 paper budget.

That's understabdable but a shame that it has to be done that way. I'd much rather let people in but soon as some fool starts something kick him out.

It was headed paper from Yate council, and the words 'Please do not display a st-georges cross' was clearly typed in black ink. I know because I was just as sceptical when she told me.

TBH I think even sending the below letter to a pub in a rough area is just as laughable. Would you tell a bloke who works in a zoo to look out for the lions? :roll:

It is an official letter. It does state that if your pub is a s**t hole in scrotesville you are advised not to advertise the world cup too much.... with flags etc.

A twisted story from a landlord whom could have shown your mrs select exerts from the letter is not a reason to argue a case with somebody whom has seen the letter and also has posted a link direct from the bbc website that disproves the web that has been woven for your mrs....
