Richards XE Nova Track Car

Hi,

Just thought id post all my pics of my build so far. Im building an stripped out nova with throttle bodied xe lump up front. The worst part of my build is that ive set myself a 6 week deadline to get it down to USC at the start of august.

The nova was one I bought locally and personally it was hideous. But it had a gte engine in it so it was fair nippy!

The donor car was my very rotten astra gsi the engine almost fell out it was that bad. Engine is stripped and it all looks in good nick.

top looking work there pal. when you hoping to have it finished or is there not a deadline?

im hoping for 31st julyfor USC at santa pod. Working on it every night from now till then. Most parts are bought. Got full engine rebuild parts full bush kit and paint and seats and cage. Just need some wheels and steering wheel

haha only just seen these. It was a truely awful paint job but at the same time a lot of women loved me in it. was funny wiping the smirk off saxo owners faces when i fly round a roundabout topping a ton!

the car is going to be ST orange now so still stand out but nothing like the pink!

ill be watching this thread mate cause my younger brother got this painted and engine in and down to usc year before last in less than a week and you have 6 weeks to do it this could be fun lol

thats some achievement in 1 week bet he dint have to paint everythin including the interior plus we have to do the full engine rebuild and fit throttle bodies

hi,
sorry for just posting pictures and no explanations.

so far we have filled in the sun roof and are just in the process of fibre glassing it. Will filler it then spend a lot of time sanding it to the right shape...oh the joy!

Got my head back from the workshop and is now all cleaned and skimmed so we are going to port and polsih it along with port matching my inlet and exhaust manifolds.

just awaiting chris astley to deliver my oversized main bearings and i can then rebuild the engine.

will keep you all updated anyway

well i got my engine fully rebuilt. Everything went to plan apart from the oversized bearings needed to be 1200 gritted to fit. The last pic shows it shrinkwrapped as it needs to stay in my garage whilst we spray the car. The Rocker will be being painted but for now its just sat on.

Well i managed to get the car in paint now. These are all the photos of it going from red/pink/silver/rust to Orange!

As you can see i had no luck in blocking the sunroof off so i got myself a fibreglass roof. It went on perfect and i cant even tell its there.

Car is now in the pearlecent colour as well but i havent got pictures yet.

i sold it to a guy who then blew it up.

I wanted to go big block as i already had the engine. I fell in love with it in the astra gsi and i fell in love with the nova's driving characteristics so thought i would combine the two

well i have my engine built all parts are painted ready to go back on the car. Car is being laquered tonight so im hoping for rolling shell at weekend. once thats done its wireing up the megasquirt to the throttle bodies and if i can have it running by the end of next week then yes im well on track. Got a week off at the end of the month for tweeks, finishing touches and running the engine and tires in!

didnt realise laquer was so sticky but looking good so far

car is in full laquer now so were looking good for having engine in and rolling shelled by weekend! pics to follow

Right guys engine is going in very shortly. Going to get it to a rolling shell stage by Saturday.

First off we are under sealing it all tonight then tomorrow we can start bolting parts on. We have started building the rear beam up and having it all painted. New bearings going on and fully poly bushed. We have also done the disc conversion.

Once engine is sat in place we will connect the motorsport shafts up to the hubs and paint up the bottom arms and tie bars. Again these are all poly bushed.

Got a brand new radiator to go in and we will be painting up the old oil coolers etc and having it all put in place. Got an oil catch tank coming through the post that looks quite nice. Not aiming for a mint show condition engine bay so won’t be going for the whole bailey tanks and chroming. Just nicely painted parts and most importantly keeping it clean!

Got the coil overs through the post too so hoping that these will make the car sit really nice. Wheels will also arrive in the post this week. I couldn’t quite afford OZ Super T’s as I wanted but have got some that look near as damn it. They also come with Yokohama S Drive tyres which my mate has and are really quite nice and versatile.

Just need to locate some GSi side skirts to finish it off.

Got to start the wiring soon. Going for megasquirt so will need a bit of mapping before santa pod. Wiring in the shift light and push button start too.

Will post pictures as I go.

right well its been a very busy week for us. We have got the car painted, rear beam on, front suspension and hubs on and engine in.

we have started wiring up the megasquirt and also ported the inlet manifold ready for the throttle bodies.

Also had delivery of my wheels, oil catch tank and filter among a million other little parts

Hoping to have it running this week and the rest of the panels on my early next week....count down is on!

why thank you! were getting all the rocker cover spark plug covers and cam cover shot blasted then getting them painted up!
