Belmont.. monza GSi ?

Quick question...

I was round someones unit the other week and they have a WIP Astra Belmont with a LET that's apparently been Retro-Fitted.

However, it's all RHD - But seems to be originally badged as an OPEL. Even more wierdly, it has (what also seems to be original) OPEL MONZA GSi in vynal on the Tailgate in a Yellow and Grey Pattern.

Now, i know perfectly well what a Monza is ! And this is certainly a Mk2 Astra Belmont !

I'm just wondering what on earth it is ? I seem to remember seeing somwhere that in south africa some of the Mk2 Astra's came originally fitted with a LET ?

its a South African model, the Belmonts were called Monza's there.
Don't think they were ever fitted with LET's on the mk2 only XE's. The mk2 Astra hatch was called Astra there and the performance models were called Boss and Superboss.
The mk3 Astra saloon came with an LET and was called the Astra 200ts.

Ah so this "belmont" aka Monza Gsi has either been fitted with a Different Tailgate and Graphics or is actually a south african car !

I'l try get some Photos Scott. It also has MIM Raffinos !

I think i saw this on ebay some months ago. So yeah its an S.A motor. But being a mk2 belmont it would have been way too early to recieve the LET lump.

As for the proper 200TS, its one of the cars i would love to own but would never get the chance too, have to be a saloon one too.

It appears the Astra Mk2 convertible was also called the Monza!
