Noticed the fronts on my astra have of course worn there inner edges down quicker than the rest of the tyre :roll:. Inner edge is down to below 1.6mm tread, but the rest of the tyre has 4mm+
Now, the law stating "central 3/4's needing to be above 1.6mm tread" makes this tyre still legal yes?
id pass it and advise both front tyres worn on inner edges
According to the MOT manual, its fine to have bald edges (as long as the centre 3/4 is =>1.6mm)

Nah John, it aint that worn. Just noticeably more worn than the rest of the tyre :)
When im doing an mot check on a car if the inner edge of tyre is worn but there is still tread then id just advise it needs changed soon, if it is bald with no tread then it needs changed doesnt matter if centre is still 3mm etc if the inner edge has no tread shown then id advise it needs changed asap
Dont worry they will be getting changed, its just in the mean time i dont want to be getting pulled and risk 3 points & fine per tyre.......
be careful with it, bear in mind its only 1/8th either side that can be bald, and if its a pedantic tester (like me on a bad day) it could fail even if its only a little past it
I have been through this with an officer at the side of the road.
And he said aslong as there is no cord or wire showing through, then he cant touch me, however, if it wears to the canvas they can take the car off you there and then as its unfit to drive.
