this is the surround sound unit in my room, you know the main bit/dvd player that all the speakers wire into, would i be able to plug in a car amp using the signal cables into the 'Aux' bits on this:

so yo can wire your sub in per chance ?
you can but youd also need a 12volt supply to power the amp
ive done it before, wired up the sound system from the nova in my room, used a head unit and a car battery. but id like to buy the sub amp and wiring again, and just use the surround sound unit as the head unit if you see what i mean
there will be an issue with the resistance of the sub wont their?
car audio is like 2 or 4 ohm whereas hi fi is like 8ohm

^ Yeah, but then the amp is merely using the RCA outputs of the DVD player for a signal. The output to the sub will be in the correct resistance if its a car amp.
And a car battery would power the amp for a short while but probably go flat pretty sharpish. They're not designed to throw out power for hours on end.
u need a sound processor (yamaha dsp-e800) it has sub outputs so will give correct bass and stuff this way it will be done properly

i was thinking the dvd player was his amp, not reading the thread properly!
Too much hassle for the above reasons IMO.
when i done it before, i used a mains charger on the battery, so whenever the battery was in use, i would plug it in. so i cant just plug an amp into the aux on it then?
