Good lines & looking fast; thanks for video!
Took it to Donington on the 5th.
Car performed well all day, it's mechanically very reliable now. The new Motul 660 fluid in the front discoloured a lot less than the Millers and worked well.
Here's a good reason why they insist on rollover protection on slicks.

I picked up a fibreglass bootlid from a fellow trackdayer too so will update when I get that fitted.
Oof defs looked like it was away to go over!
Well handled tho. Full on drift too. I thought the slicks would help keep grip. Or is it a case of when they go, they fully go.
I think the car was still set up to provoke some oversteer from the summer. Cold track and struggling to get heat into the rears meant it looked RWD for most corners lol
I see a girl
What slicks and compound do you run Iain?
Looks like it could have been expensive .
Michelin S9C which are quite a hard compound. Second hand and easily sourced. They last quite a few track days :)
Hmm probably early next year no plans yet! Part of the fun is camping out the night before.
Plenty available usually about 200 for four. They last me a good few track days
Where do you get them from, Iain ?
Just a few eBay sellers mate, no special contacts. Team up with a mate and get 8 to make it a bit cheaper. Some of them are a bit messy/peeled but scrub up fine with our use.
They could probably really do with a 7J wheel (and arch work) but they do work on 6J.
Awesome ! Thank you and good luck, will keep an eye on the progress (and use some of the ideas if you do not mind)
Last outing at Donington I picked up a fibreglass bootlid, second hand but unused/boxed. Just finished fitting it over the past month or so.
First off, it has captive nuts to bolt on original hinges, which Paul kindly let me relieve off a mk2 Astra bootlid which shares the same hinge mechanism:

This resulted in a shocking panel gap lol

Standard Nova car-side hinge got ground back, crushed in a vice and shaped to avoid the boot-side bolt heads:

Boot inner skin got cut out for access and more weight saving:

Aerocatches fitted (also a second hand bargain lol)

These were modified so the pin could be mounted horizontally:

Knocked up a professional spray booth lol My first attempt at gun painting, it's 2k primer, flatted then 3 coats of colour-matched 2k paint (my car is miles off the Glacier White it's supposed to be lol):

Inside pins are taken care of with two shaped pieces of 3mm metal, edges curved to stop the plate flexing:

Also in the above pictures are a much smaller boot seal that was required as the gap between the boot and car is much less than the steel item.
Finished product now with window fitted, Very happy with the paint considering it's my first DIY paint job. I think I'll re-apply the Sport-esque graphics I had on the last one:

Looks good, what sort of weight saving would you gain from this?
The bare fibreglass bootlid comes in at 4kg. Not weighed the standard one yet but I've read it's around the 11-12kg mark bare. Also get to ditch the lock mechanism strut etc. Another benefit is being able to open the boot with the engine running - I couldn't with my early boot due to the lock style.
Lid is white, looks good with the yellow of the body
Doors and wings next
This looks crap
Can't beat a good replacement panel!

Extra cage will more then likely out weigh the savings then
Nice job, good work on making it fit. Some of these FB items fit so badly its unreal.
I'll be bringing the sting over to prove the colour again!
I can scan it with the paint scanner probs 50 shades of grey
Yo dawg lol
nice work on making it right Iain
When I built the car several years ago, the car/stands/driveway must have been on an angle. This means all that hard work putting in my seat rails led to both seats leaning towards the right.
The height of the rails were restrictive and I would occasionally hit my helmet on the rollcage, which wasn't ideal. So they needed fixing.
New measurements were done with a spirit level, and importantly a spirit level across the door shuts. This should make them more level.

I attempted the level the car off as well as possible, and you'd be surprised how wonky the rails are. They would run out 5-10mm across the width of each rail. lol

Chop chop.

Both sides shortened slightly, spreader plates on car cleaned and re-welded. The rails needed slightly fettling as did the floorpan (read: smash it with a hammer) to get the rails as low as physically possible:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2b/366.JPG
You can see how much it's lower on the spreader plate compared to orginal:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2b/367.JPG
I've also coupled this with going 1 bolt hole lower on the rear of my side mounts. To achieve this was a task in itself, and included:
1) Shortening the height of the bracket to clear the harness hole
2) Reversing one of the bolts, countersinking the metal and using a countersunk bolt (to clear the seat)
3) Using a shallow allen headed bolt on the sidemount-to-car just to clear the seat
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2b/368.JPG
This was a lucky fluke, luckily the seat feels nice in front of the harness eye bolt lol
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2b/369.JPG
New seating position is excellent, very low with good visibility still, and miles away from the rollcage

nicely done!
