I think its a common misconception that space framing is super light as you need to add a reasonable amount of tubing back in to gain the desired strength and the tub its self tends to be thicker walled also!

It will be interesting to see how these do weigh in.

I think it would be best to go with over engineered and a bit heavier rather than under engineered and erm death imo, sideways it will be im sure of that!

I do have the old front i cut off in one piece. Could weigh it lol

I think the most important factor is getting the weight balanced front to back / left to right.

As for the jig, if you could get hold of some rsj's you could knock yourself one up quite easily.
