Great work mate, all the carbon parts will look stunning next to the red!
Thanks mate, was a Pig to get that tank off without breaking things all the clips etc was corroded. I won't need them again but trying to keep everything intact.
Yeah will look good I hope, although there won't be much red, just the grille bit below the windscreen and the pillars rest will be carbon. Maybe some red wheels lol
Good stuff :) can't wait to see this piece together......will pop through tomorrow maybe well if its dry.
Spot on bud, just give me a shout. I'm free tonight if your in Aberdeen.
Be good to get on weigh bridge/corner weighted when all done:D
I'm quite curious as to how much it will weigh aswell. I'll get it on a weigh bridge :)
Have you discussed with your bodyshop how they are going to hide the joins when fitting the quarters? Their is always going to be joints somewere which makes me think you would be better off not bothering with quarters. Even covered with paint and well thought out chances are it will look like a two tone patch work quilt. I would definitely say you'd be better off going down a similar route to big Rons corsa and just going for bolt on panels and or roof panel. Getting these fitted and aligned will be a huge mission alone.
Nick.
No, I havnt actually discussed the quarters with them yet. I was thinking that the bit that bonds into the c pillar will be painted red and hopefully shouldn't be too noticeable if it is i could maybe fet a bit of vinyl over it or something and the rest will be along the bottom of the window so the window seals will take care Of that not being on show. I'll be having a word with them in the coming weeks when I have the car ready for them. I'll keep this updated as to what's appening.
Has rons corsa not got a full carbon roof?
The only way round it in my eyes is to fit two full body sides but I doubt their even available nowadays to take moulds from. Nearly all body shops would want to fit a quarter through the b/c pillars and the sill. So if you fit original vinyl over the b pillar you've still got joins on the c pillar and the sill to sort. Thinking about it you will have a carbon roof with red a and c pillars, carbon sides but with red sills then a carbon front and rear end. In all honestly I think it would look rather odd unless you colour changed to gloss black or had further carbon laid over joints which would just add a load more work and probably never leave a level finish. I spent hours on a carbon bonnet for a previous red project of mine thinking it would look great with my black bumpers. Once we got it on the car not only did it fit appallingly but it looked pants too hence why I sold it on. I think big ron found quite a clever balance with the cars first incarnation and if I was you that's what I'd aim for. Please don't take it the wrong way I'm just pointing out how I see it. It all depends what you want the car for I guess? If its all go and no show then I guess it wouldn't matter however I get the feeling your after more than that?
Nick.
I know what your saying nick, I personally think the red is going to go well with the carbon but if it doesn't I'll just wrap it. And regarding the sills you won't see them as I have carbon skirts aswell. Looked everywhere for full quarters and couldn't find so I had to go with the other ones instead. I could maybe get fibreglass smoothed on the c pillar over the join then painted to hide the join I'll leave that for the body shop to tell me what an be done and what can't though. I'll maybe see if I can get a photoshop done for it aswell. Thanks for your input though nick :)
Full quarters were an option but if didn't seem to happen, im still willing to let chris take moulds of mine but it would be best done soon before they get used
In theory the only visible metal you should be left with is the A post, scuttle panel and the sill when the doors are open, carbon gsi skirts would cover the rest of the sill,
Another option would be to make the sill part of the quarter panel mould so it would be 1 piece
Pm on route bazil
Replied mate,
Bazil can you send me some pictures of the full quarters just so I can get my head around making them, do they have the roof gutter piece on there and do they go right to the front of the a pillar?
cmcomposites@hotmail.co.uk
Chris
Will do chris,
Yeah its basically the full side, from door seal rubber to tailgate rubber joins and sill to roof gutter
Just for a quick idea heres a pic, ill get better ones to email you,
The second picture shows them lying with sills, ideally this would be the ideal mould for bazza as it would replace the full sill and leave no exposed metal, but I guess a pita to do lol

Ive hit a snag removing the loom, it's wrapped around the steering rack so thought if I took the nuts and bolts out the rack I could pull tthem straight out but one side has a rectangular nut at the top and dome shaped at the bottom and just won't slacken off, any advice? Once it's off the loom is free to come out.
Been having a nightmare trying to remove these doors aswell, I snapped the extractor pin so I made another one at work today but didn't get the chance to try it out.
The steering column has a sheer bolt, knock the domed head around anti clockwise with a cold chisel.
Ah I see, thanks mate :)
You should be able to get the loom out without removing the column? I have removed a 1.0 and a 1.2i loom complete, the 1.2i should be a similar idea?
Door removal......fun. Did you buy an extractor set? The draper ones I used did two sets of doors and never snapped but just got worn.
If you can't get the pins out with the tool then I'd heat them with gas bottles and try again as once theyve seen heat it should be easier. Failing that drill them out! To get the doors off my first car (nova gte) we had to cut big holes in the doors and then drill the pins out. Not a favourite method but it was having new doors like yours will be so not to worry.
Nick.
I am sure you'll be able to knock the split one out with patience, feel free to borrow the pin kit which I think I still have, as Nick said, some heat will make a difference, once you get the first bit of movement you'll be fine.
I won't be able to take the loom out in 1 piece as its wrapped around the rack, and yeah I bought the laser one the pins are just cheap steel so I've made a better one to do the job. Nick I've got a we blowtorch at my lockup so I'll attack te hinges with that next time I'm over. Cheers
Rack or column? Loom is only 1 bit at the fuse box end, so just unplug the rest and it will come out...
The way this is wired in I can't simply unplug it, I'd have to cut it which ain't happening.
http://i660.photobucket.com/albums/u...ps87040854.jpg
Just remove the column then the loom should slip out through the middle, shear bolt a pain but get it easy with Yeh dash out
Just keep hitting it with a chisel until it comes free?
Never seen it over the top of the column like that, I'd unbolt it too, and even snapping the bolt with a spanner will free it off, the one in the pic doesn't look done up anyway...
That's because that's the side I free'd off lol
