update

today i got the bearings pressed into the knuckles, im still awaiting my conversion hubs to arrive. will get fitted as soon as they do.

fitted the poly bushes in the lower arms and tie bars.

good work fella. colour coded archs look very cool and powder coated parts and polybushes just finish them off really nice

Happy times! If your fitting the engine from underneath it all has to come back off though lol

nah keith, i will be putting it back in through the top/front. its all about the angle of the dangle. :d i will have to undo some of it to get the shafts in.

got 3 of the 4 brake pipes made comming off the master cylinder, only got the offside front to make up now. braided hoses also fitted.

i got 2 washers included on the box, at a guess id say there to go between the hub nut and the hub its self. am i wrong?

That all looks so clean and rust-free, very nice. What have you used to space the tiebar down from the lower arm, looks like two spacer tubes? Is that the recommended way of doing it?

only way i have seen it done, the simps has done an article on doing such a mod to clear for the f28. i also run a 25mm box section on the front of the tie bar to cross member.

got the pistons and all seals back together on the calipers ready to bolt back on.

made up the last brake pipe from the master cylinder to the o/s/f brake hose.

so got down the garage to fit them. copper slipped the caliper frame and the pads in all relivant places. moly poly'd the slides and bolted the calipers down.

have still got to attach the hoses to the calipers, wont take 5 minutes so will do that next time im down there. hopefully bleed all the system aswell and hope none of my joins leak. im praying. :d

Its plasticoat paint mate and yeah its durable as when i seen this i done mine.lol looks awsome bud:thumb:

tek- it isnt much tbh, 30pound each garage a month. but i have no source of electric or water. stick with your home comforts, i wish i could!! lol

Just read through the thread and im loving the attention to detail. Only thing im not to keen on is the red bits not sure it really goes with the blue but each to their own good luck with the rest of the build mate

bought off a nice chap called lee that was breaking a vectra. sorts out the sunroof for the nova. happy days.

this morning i set out to get my head lining fitted that i bought ages ago. i will hopefully do an article for it when i get round to it.

so i dug out the headlining (mmmmmm alcantara), the pegs and adhesive i had.

i still have the front windscreen section to do and the rear tailgate bit to do.

i had to get my tailgate fitted as it needed adjusting on the hinges, as you know there under the headlining, hence i had to get it fitted before i finish the h.lining.

it does look daunting, but it really isnt. aslong as your patient and stretch it to take out the creases then its an easy job. :)

That headlining looks like the one I made for my one. Eventually the fabric faded due to sunlight.

what did you make yours out of?

AFAIK its been fitted to 2 peoples cars already and is still in great condtion.

It was Faux Suede mate, got it from a fabrics factory they said it was suitable for that sort of application but after about 4 years of seeing the sun (mainly the rear C pillar and around teh opening of the boot) it faded.

This time I'm going for a Alcantara done professionally.

how much it set you back to make? 4years worth wouldnt be too bad if it was cheap. next time get tinted windows. lol.

mines alcantara so it should be ok for many years to come. :)

The one I made (which faded) only cost me like £20 in fabric (trade prices thanks to my Cuz). I made it using the original headlining as a template.

The new one will be Alcantara most probably and it'll be done whilse the seats ge re-trimmed.

Your rebuild looks good. Just off to have a more in depth gander through it.

cheers pistol, i work in a garage so most of the mechanics and strip down/rebuild comes from knowing what to do. somethings i just cant do, only if i was super human. :(

update

evening all, a bit more of an update for you. i have been and collected some vital engine parts ive needed to start sorting my engine out. excellent service from cemex up in oswestry, top man and has a good knowledge of the c20let.

right then, have been sorting out some small parts of the interior trim which needed dealing with.

first of all was the floor grommets, after speaking to vauxhall they wanted a stupid price for each one of the grommets, so opted to tidy up my ones i had. these ones will be under the carpet so wont be seeing them. i have ordered 5 grommets as they will be on show where the rear seats used to be.

gave them a wire wheel which took up the paint/underseal/grime.


after numerous attempts to get a sunroof windbreaker for the car i had to give up. my old one has broke on the one mounting point, but as i couldnt get another i had to reclaim mine. it still fixes on the one side and doesnt wobble about. so kind of a result. gave it a spray of black to tidy it up.

when i bought my sunroof glass i managed to pinch the inner surround seal. it was a very light grey and wouldnt have matched the headling at all. gave it a couple of coats of black spray and it came out like so...

the electric sunroof switch/surround is getting modified from its previous state. it doesnt quite sit flush with the headlining at the front so i modified it like so...

ground off on both sides the tallest lip so it doesnt dig into the headlining so much.

it then needed to be straightened. i tried putting it in the sink with boiling water to soften it and bend it flat.

didnt realy work that well, i then got out the hair dryer and evenly heated it up across the bend point, i molested it until it came out pretty much how id like.

havnt tried it in there yet but is on my list, dont know yet how to secure the front or which light i will be using. scrap yard here i come.

today i had a text from my powdercoater saying my cage and brace were all ready, got him to deliver them to me. im really chuffed how they came out, dont know what i expected them to come back like but i think they look great. the front section will get done when i need it.

trial fitted the brace back in, needs twisting around slightly to line the holes back up but other than that it can be bolted down for the final time.

update to hopefully come on saturday, rear glass and cage should be going in. also the engine should have its long awaited strip down for the rebuild.
