half way through AAT at the moment, only got the accounts job 11 months ago lol, then ACCA after AAT though yeah.

Not quite decided yet though, see what sort of money i'm offered to stay here when i finish the AAT, if its not enough, i'll move on and see where i end up. Only way to make loads of money from practice is to work for yourself, whereas if you're going down the CIMA route you can land jobs of 75k with a few years experience behind you ... its a hard choice - but fortunately i dont need to decide yet lol

Did my AAT first but in hindsight I should have just started CIMA as I would be a year further on then I am now which would make me pretty much qualified. Never mind though, no rush!!

AAT is pretty easy to be fair ... so far.

Although having said that, my brain went a bit mushy last night when we went over "double entry for process costing with abnormal gains" lol

I never even thought of accounts as a career - i just decided i wanted a career instead of just another job, spoke to mum at a family barbeque and she happened to mention the AAT, so i signed up - couple of months after starting it i got a job working here (tutor at college mentioned this place were looking for someone). The rest is history lol

I feel there is a rush for me, I'm 26, and another 5 years studying till i qualify means i'll be 31. Fair enough, there's people in their late 30's on my aat course, but i want the riches, and i want them now :thumb:

Wish i'd thought about it when i left school, could have been earning 35k a year for the last 5 years. If only i'd known then that i would enjoy doing maths for a living lol

I've found the CIMA exams reasonable so far but not very good on the wordy written papers which is what you have to be good at at the top level so can see me coming unstuck.

Also, i thought you got credit from CIMA for the AAT course, and that cut it down to 3 years instead of 4?

I dont like written papers. Explaining WHY something works is much harder than just working it out.

I used to work in the education department at the local council, but left to join the MOD as both the job and people there sucked ass. All the people <30 just couldn't give a toss about their job, the council as a whole, or anything else. The people >30 were all a bunch of weirdos, my supervisor used to cream herself over the database we used :wtf: Not to mention the excess of middle management which spent 95% of the time in all day meetings about god-knows-what.

Although the people in the MOD are better (well they were in AH anyway, where I am now is serious nerdsville, stereotypical IT geeks - there's a guy up the corridor who looks like something from Lord Of The Rings, and Father Christmas sits opposite me) and the middle management actually do stuff instead of eat biscuits in meetings all day, the orgnization spends money like its water (although thats mainly because every supplier anally invades the govt for shoddy products and services) and in most establishments there is a fair amount of in-fighting.

You do but the AAT qualification took 2 years rather than just doing the 1 year foundation level of CIMA. I was 25 last month and should be doing my finals next May so not too bad. Just need to gain another 18 months practical experience then :eek:

Thats what the papers get like near the end unfortunately. Sitting my last paper on this level next month and there are no numbers on it whatsoever.

ah yes, basic maths problem let me down lol
