Will be sending the block to an engineering company with the crank for a good clean up and to have the crank checked. Some scoring on the crank so want to get it checked. First things first will be to get things cleaned up and then start buying some fresh new bits that are needed.

I need some tips on cleaning caked up internal bits. Something that will make my life easier and requiring less elbow grease. Got brake cleaner/engine degreaser/carb cleaner type cleaners coming to mind but I don't wanna be in a situation where I have to use many litres of already expensive fluids. Would oven cleaners work and remove carbon deposits? Is it possible to use abrasives like very fine wet n dry?

Gen me up.

I'm sure mowgli said to clean litters with mr muscle as it's non abrasive so that might work on other parts but maybe pm him to check :thumb:

Lifters and stuff would probably do fine with brake cleaner type sprays. But the pistons have a bit of caking so need something real strong.

I used a wire brush on my pistons years ago lol

I got Nylon brush that would probably help to shift some dirt but I'd really like to have something that will dissolve most of it. Guess it's a case of experimenting.

Maybe soak them in petrol? Or do what I do and stick everything in the dishwasher lol

Diesel came to mind. Dishwasher did come to mind but my mum would kill me if I stuck oily bits in there. She's on holiday but mum's always know that somethings happened lol
