Keiths Nova Turbo build

Slow progress guys with being back at work, christmas emptying the bank etc.

Managed to scrape this out of whatever moneys left from december wages tho.

For those who've never seen one, Its an EDS Tophat. Its basically a replica of the standard tophat casting, however its 50mm internal bore instead of the standard 40mm. It can be modifyed by cutting the front section by about 2" to make it 60mm. It also has an outlet to the rear for a dump valve, and the standard tophat "turbo" cover fits over, so its all hidden and standard looking.

I have the same one as you, cut back to the 60mm point.

I would suggest you use a die grinder and smooth it off a bit :-

are you keeping it at 50mm, or are you going to cut it back for the 60mm size?

I'm going to check the boost pipes that Radtec made for me and see if they will stretch to 60mm, if they wont i'll keep it at 50mm until I change the pipe.

Oh, and cheer's joff! I want to use a Die Grinder on the inlet side too. Where's the best place to buy a Die Grinder?

I found the easiest way to get a die grinder up and running was :-

Most of the stuff I got from machine mart or off ebay. I really only bought my compressor for the die grinder, but it has come in really useful for the air tool kit I got with it. The airgun is really handy for wheel nuts and getting suspension struts apart. The tyre gauge speaks for itself and the air gun was just genrally handy at cleaning of stuff.

Would recommend if you have the space. I didn't fancy the noise in the garage so put mine in a sound proofed box on the outside of the garage with the pipe and cable running through the wall. You can hardly hear it when on - just need to lift the lid when using for long periods so it doesn't overheat.

Yeah - I did the inlet as well - just take it off the turbo before you do it otherwise you'll get thousands of bits going into the turbo itself!
