Great idea for the beam :D
Loving the fabrication on this, where will the water pipes be running through to the boot ?
Rear beam looks superb! Good work :D
Your not happy with the origional rear beam so you go and fabricate a new one from scratch !! lol
Top effort fella, looking forward to seeing it at PV, you gonna run it up the strip ? It'd be rude not to !!
** How come you aint delocked the doors ? **
Yeah, water pipes out through the boot floor then down the tunnel hopefully...I cut to holes so far, but havn't got any further with that ...another job to do!
Couldn't bring myself to de-lock the new doors...just could't do it! lol
I'm in the middle of making up some ally banks to fit in the lock holes though... I say in the middle, but I started them a good 10 months ago, nearly finished one, then havn't got round to finisheing them off.. lol Only a hours work in them anyway (as i'm a beginner on the lathe)
Deffo having it up the strip! U heading up in yours this year again?
Found this on youtube the other day, propbably from USC last year

All that work on a rear beam, why not fabricate (or as ive always thought about, pinch from a newer car) somesort of independent rear suspension?
Good lad !!Quote:

Wheels look superb, they work well with the old skool colour.
LOL @ just going and making your own rear beam, classic stuff.
Your fabrication/welding skills are truly awesome, how long have you been welding for? self taught?
went to see the nova tonight oh my austin hat off to you my son !!!!!
spot on !!
How have i not seen this thread before??!
Just read this from page 1.
Amazing work dude.
You metal fab work is top notch, and lead loading? thats hard core.. as its not to cheap and from what i found very hard to get nice.
Building a new beam? Christ. Wouldnt even kno where to start...
Cant wait to see the car finished and for real.
Great work dude, hats off to you.
Ben
Custom rear beam...amazing! That part alone sums up this whole car!
Stunning :)
Ive just sat hear for the best part of 20 mins reading this! amazing work, really looking forward to seeing it finished!
damn if i make it to pv the starmags are gonna go back on !!
Just been trough this whole thread Austin and it truely is an inspiration (plenty of right click save as! lol)
Can't wait to see it finished!
Cant wait to see this done and finished, truely amazing and inspirational, are there anymore updates?
Probably done a roof chop over the weekend just stretch the boundarys even more lol
Love this project but which lucky mate of yours is going to drive the flip front to the shows?
Any chance of a couple more pics on how you've done the filler neck for the tank. I've plated over my rear quarter and haven't yet worked out how I'm gonna get fuel in to it - Keep up the good work
Cheers
Any updates? :D Hoping it'll be at PV?
Thinking outside the box is something you're doing successfully each attempt it would seem now Austin.
My only concern with rose jointing the beam mount to chassis points is wont that allow for greater lateral stress on the lower strut mount points?
Before the flange of a conventional bush would take a proportion of the lateral force under load, but a rose joint will allow complete freedom of movement along this axis. Would this not pose an issue?
Loving the colour and simplicity of such a build ;)
Must be due an update Austin....
Quality bit of Loonage!
Going Euro style with it then Austin??
And **** me did you launch that
just read the complete thread, superb work,
you would seem to have to much time on your hands to do all this works lol
shame this wasn't at PV :(
half glad it didnt make it to pv, looked for it all day and couldnt find it, was worried i missed it somewhere.
any updates? and will it be at billing?
Thanks to all for the comments! :thumb:
Andy - did a similar launch at PV on the sat and broke the gearbox on the 2nd run.. gutted!!
I guess its a bit euro / oldskool ish...
BR (thats Flush isn't it?) - have been thinking about that as well, but checked some tables on the strength of the joints when I bought them, and I think it should be ok.. Was considering some sort of watts type linkage, but that would be extreem overkill i'm sure...
Was also well gutted to not make it to PV in the saloon, as I spent all eves and w/e's on it on the weeks approaching the show, as well as splashing out on some essentials - custom gaz coilies, pedal box and a few other odds and sods. Still having a few issues trying to start it, but another ecu and chips on their way! PV with the blue nova was all good though. The PNG stand was sorted!
As far as other progress, i'll get some pics up soon i hope. Prity much all together, just flatting of the paint needed and a few other final bits.
you ditched the corsa servo & mc then? because of problems or just as an upgrade?
Any 'lateral' loads will try and create a moment about the rose joint, which will be reacted longitudinally by the rose joint on the otherside...will it not?Quote:

Probably using a Corsa bias box & running it with the Corsa pedal arrangement.Quote:

i love this thread/rebuild
whats going on now then austin?
.............
Love this car ...
i want a saloon nova
stunning build mate:D
i love the quality of fabrication and thougth that has gone into the car.
the only thing that is personaly worrying me is the rear beam, it looks good but i would personaly not trust those rose joints, i hope you have thought things through properly regarding this as the last thing i would want to hear is something about the rose joints giving way.. they look way too small tbh anyway, and with the loads going through them i dont think they would last long anyway untill play apeared..
tada! itll just be there all finished at billing..Quote:

yes i know that, but when cornering hard there is going to be tremendous amount of stress going through those 2 rose joints. i would have speced them a damn sight bigger
as i am generous and i love this build if you have any doubts yourself austen i have some rose joints here which are used in the aeromotive industry, beleive they are used for some of the main rotor parts on a helicopter. you welcome to have 2 of them for free.
heres a pic so u can see what i mean for size..

Sweet baby Jebus in a manger
that's a more than modest RJ - but still makes no odds with the issue I mentioned…
How's the project going mate? cant wait to see an update, been brilliant so far
