You bet mate. Still lots to mop, the guy really takes his time mopping to get the most out of it. Then a wash and a waxing. Need to remember my shades I think ;)Quote:

Whats the paint like in the door & boot shuts? Was it painted as we seeit? Or were the doors opened etc?
Looking good fella :)
Excellent update, i cant help but think how much more fun this car would be with no spoiler on, no snow plow, just a standard early bumper and smaller intercooler and badges up as a 1.2 merit or similar would make a nice subtle car with a tastey engine. There is a guy up here with a .mk3 escort done similar in original colour and 1.3GL badges but with cosworth running gear in it.
The Gold is lush. Is it the old Vauxhall shade?
WOW paint!!! how did i miss that.. looks really good tek! I thought you had to change the n/s gearbox mount on the lets? i bet you cant wait to start rebuilding now. mine will be having a full resapray also once ive had chance to enjoy it for a while:)
that looks spot on that fella very nice!!
Doors and boot lid were opened whilst painting to do all the shuts and inside the doors. The bay was painted first before the body so the underside of the bonnet was done too.Quote:

Yep utterly standard metallic White Gold by Vauxhall, exactly what it says on the VIN (not tin lol). The colour match is fantastic, it really is nice seeing the car in one shade of proper gold.Quote:

great feeling have a car freshly painted, i got mine back from bodyshop last week. Did they sort the alternator cutout in the end?
Yeah realy can't wait to get it home and put everything on it. A lot of refurbed, cleaned, and new bits going on so it'll look mint.
Yeah, knocked it back a bit using a mallet. He didn't wanna cut it and felt knokcing it back was the best way to go about it and can always be 'adjusted'. But I'm very happy with everything.Quote:

Good luck with putting it all back together, should be top when finished.
Cheers Edd, there's only one Nova on here with this colour, and I haven't seen this colour anywhere on the road. So if there is on then it's pretty well hidden.
Many people commented on the colour when it first got to the shop to the lads working there saying 'is he sure he wants to go for that colour?'
Now that they've seen it with fresh shiney paint people have actually said it looks lovely in that colour.
the paint job looks awesome, bet your pleased with the outcome.
keep up the work tek and get her built up.
Now that looks awesome Mr Tek loving the shine of the paint
It's a cracking build you've got going on here mate.
NovaTek the scaramanga of PNG lol
Thanks Southie, appreciate the words :)
lol Scaramanga.
Update soon.
Have some rep ;)

Dude, looks awesome! I might have missed it but why was the window not masked up?
looking good chum.......:thumb::thumb::thumb:
Thanks Benn.
There was a dust sheet covering the inside but he left the window unmasked as he had to paint the inside of rear screen lip due to corrosion.
Thanks Novasport.
Ah cool.
UPDATE
Popped down to the bodyshop briefly to drop off the rear glass for them to re-fit. Took some snaps of it almost fully mopped. Only the passenger side was left.
Was looking shiny if I say so myself.
The GTE rear bumper getting some rub down treatment.

The snowplough needed more work though. The paint had flaked in a few areas and the guys said that the bumper has lost a bit of shape, it's a bit warped. They'll be trying their best to remove all the old paint, give it a good rub down and painting.

Had to leave the shop to go sort something out, which took almost all day, but I returned just before they shut to give them the front heated screen for them to fit. He was preparing the GSi spoiler and painting the wing mirror surrounds. He pointed me in the direction of the underside.

Now before anyone says anything, I know what you're thinking... but no he hasn't missed any areas. The under seal was still very wet and the flash was being reflected back hence it looking like it wasn't covered. He used Tetra Schutz on his special applicator gun on an airline. So it got into every nook and cranny. The arches were also done.
Some pics of the Nova with the rear glass back in, door handles painted and on, petrol cap repainted in black.

The guys spoke to me about the snowplough. Firstly, the driver side metal bracket on the bumper (which slides into the guide on the wing) was half there, then they cautioned me that the snowplough being a bit warped could mean that when painted it may show up it's non-straightness.
Anyway we offered it on to the front to make sure it was ok.
To me it still looked fine and you'd really have to search for the un-straight/warped bit. I hadn't noticed it before and feel that only the trained eye will spot the ploughs imperfection. At the end of the day its a 25 year old piece of plastic.
looks good mate
looking smart mate!
is such a nice feeling getting it back from the bodyshop
Thanks lads.
It sure will be a nice feeling having it back :)
Looks awesome!
i have the same problem with my plough.
i have a new set of mounts, but the old ones are a bitch to remove.
i still think you should have removed the wiper and run without a spoiler.
looks great though, lovely colour.
looking really well mate.
as i said before.
love the colour and complete retroness.
should be a gorgeous wee car when finished.
personally...i wouldnt be a fan of the coloured door handles.....but everyone has theyre own taste.
great project mate
Stunning STUNNING STUNNING!
Dude its looking awesome! Paint looks good.
Thanks for all the comments lads.

I know what you're saying but I really like the GSi spoiler and I'll be having it put on.

UPDATE
Another absolutely knackering day. Woke up early and made may way down to you know where.
The guys were going over the car putting back bits n pieces that they removed whilst the bumpers were in the oven drying. I had also brought along a few bits to put back while the guys were doing final touches. I only really brought along stuff that covered holes as the weather seemed as it was gonna chuck it down i.e rear clusters, front headlamps, blower motor etc.
Putting back the front bumper was a nightmare as the driver side wing bracket was half non-existant. managed to get it on with no damage, phew!
The GTE rear bumper went on a treat.
The bad news of the day was the GSi spoiler. After two attempts to get it painted, both times a section of the spoiler about the size of a memory stick reacted with the paint and started to blister immediately. The chaps said to leave it with them to try strip it back as much as poss and then paint it again. In the mean time we thought we'd line up the spoiler and mark where it'll be fixed to the boot.
Ooops! The corner of the spoiler is missing!! Nobody, till now, had noticed it was even damaged. I didn't & they didn't! So it looks like I'll be searching for a replacement GSi spoiler as they didn't want to repair it due to it being right on the corner and there would be a risk of it falling off.
Anywho, with the car all done, it was pushed out to wait for the tow truck.
Perfect time for me to get some snaps

Not the most glamorous estate, but the Nova more than makes up for it, and yes that is the new heated front screen fitted. Something you don't see often, shiny black snowplough!! The GTE rear bumper really does give the back end a nice look.
With regards to the interior, I think I'm gonna skip the buckets a pair of Vauxhall Recaros to fit. Have considered the Astra G GSi seats as a possible candidate. The headlining needs to be re-trimmed so they would all need to match up nicely.
The chaps there were really pleased with how the Nova looked and I think they didn't expect it to look this nice. A guy with a Carrera S came to the shop and he was admiring the Nova more than I was admiring the Porsche lol
First things first though, need to get the mechanicals in and running and the interior shall be done after.
The tow truck came soon after and I made my way home, took about, what... 2 mins!
Got home and quickly put a few bits back on the car, then remembered that I left my camera in the tow truck. Chased up the guy, and went and met him where he was to get my camera back. I tidied up the garage (took about 4 hours) and pushed it in.
Getting there Tek,
Cant wait to see this finished now!!
Looks well
looks amazing :thumb:
Thank you lads :thumb:
