Coming on well, will have to start making progress on mine:)
I think Vaughn should swap the genuine trim with the sr one you have! Be a shame to see two "wrong" cars on the road for the sake of a replica.

Thats my 10 pence over. Back to Greg who is doing a sterling job :thumb:
Well fecking done mate, this is really coming along now, cant wait to see it on the road.
Iam really glad you saved the shell, as others would have just kept some of the good bits and sold off the rest ie interior etc.
Its a credit to you greg.
iain
Agreed, my shell is worse than yours greg.Quote:

Fair enough lol Just didn't see the point chasing all the rot for it never to be 'right' when there was a clean original shell down the road from me
And the proper Sport interior is staying put - I don't want early Mk1 SR stuff :thumb:

Off topic still but .......lol
Thought you hated replicas Vaughan ???
Aye I don't really approve of them...I'm not building a Sport replica as my shell is red...and Sport's are white!
He does hence it staying red..Quote:

Anyway, Greg you have done an amazing job so far, I'm really glad you pressed on, it so easily could of got scrapped..

I'm sure one day Vaughan will cash in on his interior but sadly it will have red overspray on it
Personally I prefer the SR dash, I like to know the time and have some warm air in winter blowing from the side vents as well. lol
In theory true, but whats it matter?Quote:

Nope, just means i have bought some sodding vauxhall parts that are 25+ years old..
Seriously guys, this place is getting more anal then MIG, and almost as clicky as JOV..
Personally none of the Vaughn/sport things effect me, and its really old news now, so can we drop it from Greg's thread?
Scott
twas a joke lol
Either way it's not funny anymore, if it ever was really?Quote:

Greg is better of keeping the SR trim, find a one piece back bench and getting a proffessional upholster to use the cloth from his split bench. A guy did this down my way and only an anorak (Like Vaughan ;) ) would notice....
Hear hear,At the end of the day theres going to be 2 cracking motors made from one.Who gives a fukk.Where were the "purists" when it was for sale in the 1st place? Too busy chatting sh1t about it on here i bet.Quote:

Good work Greg, if you need the extra brackets for the rear 60/40 seats let me know, I've still got them in my shell and will drill then out for you,
Not wanting to start anything again, but all i can say about all this is i would of liked to of had all the original parts especially when it was almost complete.
Sport are getting thin on the ground and i think they should all be kept as complete as possible even if they are getting sold (like this one was)
even though i am a big sport fan/enthusiast, if if had been mine and i was selling, i would of sold with all the parts available!
Anyway, enough about that as it was Vaughans decision to keep the interior etc and it doesnt look like it will be available anyway. But can i have firs refusal of any of the sport stuff if you do decide to part with it..cheers mate!
Cheers for the offer Bazil, will have a think. Wouldnt mind trying to get the 1 piece bench that i was on about.
Got a couple of standard rear bench's here too mate,

Which I didn't want to see happen, so I did something about it, but I can't buy them all thoughlol
I am looking to restore her,and assessing it currently and a massing part, I can guarantee what ever her fate, it will not be broken ;)
Greg has done a marvelous job, so far, I am sure that if fellow Sportsters who have parts to aid Greg they will assist where possible;)
I am personally grateful to others who have assisted me todate on Sport2 so far:thumb:
As far as im aware the sport was not really for sale and Sturge only sold it to Vaughn as he was desperate for one and assumed it would be going to a good home and would be restored correctly, and then when vaughn sold it i am sure it was never for sale as a complete car only the shell and engine?
Could be wrong but thats how i read it.
It was only the shell that was forsale but Greg managed to get the original engine off Vaughan as well.
I think the thing that has most people moaning is that Sport bits are rare, and buying one that just needed a restore, then breaking it for no apparent reason or gain was a little silly, albit it was Vaughans to do as he pleased.
IMO it should of been kept complete, and i would of have had a good look round the shell prior to buying so i could see if i could complete the project, if not i would have left it to someone who could complete it.
Also to add, i think if Greg manages to get a one peice rear Sport bench and some heater/clock blanks that will sort the interior Sport wise, as Royston says other Sporters will help, and unless you get completely anal you wont notice the other bits.

Also i cant think of any reason why it would have been changed, it deffo wasnt a reshell due to the fact i removed the chassis number section as i was going to reshell it and it was all original.
Wasnt there not a couple of differences between the sports inbetween b and c yrs and majority of parts in a box in boot for fitting? some has single wingmirror and others twin?
Anyways makes me want a sport again.
Don't see why everyone is getting at Vaughan here. I'd be in the same boat as him if faced with the task of restoring this car, it's way beyond my capabilities, and for me the cost of paying someone to do it wouldn't make it in any way feasible to do. Can't blame the fella for having rose tinted glasses on when he had an oportunity to buy the car he's always wanted, and maybe when the reality of what it needed hit home he realised it was too much!
Fair play to Greg, you've done a smashing job on it, and I do envy you being able to do that, really can't wait to see it finished!
greg, I have brown blanking plates I might sell if your looking for some.
Looking good mate, but clear your inbox mate.

Folks, i never thought i would be writing this, but i may be abandoning this project..
After all the hardwork, sourcing genuine panels etc etc, i have found out that this may not be a Sport..
Vaughan has told me that it may not be a genuine, even though there is letters i got with the shell to say it was an original.. (confirmation letter) Where have these letters appeared from if this is not a genuine?????
I know this is a known car, and i struggle to see how it cant be genuine with the amount of previous owners from here it has and with the history that you guys will know about?
i have years worth of receipts, mot certificates, v5 (base), the letter to say the sunroof was fitted at a dealers (so it was a genuine non sunroof shell from factory)
I have got the shell sitting all ready for top coat of paint, its all been fully gravitex'd underneath, all sealed..it really does look good sitting in primer! but i am not willing to carry on if it turns out not to be the real deal..
dude! Have you contacted Andrew Duerden recently and got it straight from him? And when has vaughan told you this?
I am going to be contacting him asap!
In the last day or two..
So how has he found out it's not original? Just contact Andrew duerden yourself. I once bought a nova i was 100% certain was a sport, Mr Duerden confirmed otherwise.
He hasnt found out it is not original (that i know of) he has suspected it may not be genuine becuase it had a 3 speed fan and sunroof..
He also says that he tried to get it confirmed but they had no records of car..
