I used the grinder to flat off that battery ridge, then decided to lever it off with a screwdriver, and had to weld the holes up anyway. But in my welding frenzy I filled in this hole which is used for the brake setup, doh lol So I'll drill it off and weld another one in from my spare Nova:

Cleaned out my spare shell to get this bracket off. Had to remove all my crap and the dashboard/pedals etc to get to it:

I fitted the top plates too. Vaux fitted them for a reason and besides, they make the bay look more beefy & purposefull.

i agree with the strut tops i bought a pair of them when i ordered my plating kit from chris ansley,

they must be there for a reason, and it makes your shell look like a gsi,Sri lol

It was cut in several places for lazy removal. Feel free to come and fish it out of my bin though lol:p

Reading Lee's 2.0 conversion guide it says to bend the clutch opening towards the passenger side. Is this enough to clear the engine?

Bit more. I snaped 4 cables in a year cause mine wasn't bent enough.

Iain, try and bend the clutch cable plate down a bit more, as its a fooker to do when the engines fitted if you find out it isnt angled enough.

Sorry Peester/John, I have betrayed you. Decided a little while ago to slap a 2.0 16v in there, figured all this shell prep deserved more than a 96bhp 1.6!

you could also use a grinder and chop a bit off the clutch guide to change the angle rather than bending it and creasing the bulkhead.

Looking spot on there mr limp keep the updates regular, its a good read and good to see youre cracking on with it all yourself:thumb:

Regards to the clutch routing, i was always led to beleive you should use a straight bar and keep bending it till the bar points exactly to the N/SF corner of the car/bottom of wing, if that is of any use to you?

Standard XE to start with, should be a nice upgrade from the 1.6.

What can I say, well done Iain, some cracking work going into this and your weldings looking s**t hot! better than my shoddy attempts!

Finally got a pair of side mounts. Ordered them from RACE @ Stoke On Trent - a similar design to the Magnum ones but with much more seat adjustment options.

Also got some M10 threaded inserts, 25mm long and 20mm wide, perfect for welding in to my metal bar. This will let me mount the rails lower down (no need for nuts underneath) & I'm told is better in the event of an accident.

Only problem is the grooves on the bottom of the side mounts are designed for M8 bolts, so I'll probably have to open the slot up a bit.

How much were those mounts mate? Just what I need (eventually!)

£50 each. Only a couple of quid more than from Magnum but in stock, quick delivery and better designed for more adjustment.

Having a few issues fitting them at the moment though. Well, the mounts are fine, but for some reason the angle of the vertical pieces is different coming off the seat. Anybody got any advice?
