Now i've kind of finished uni I can play with the car again. Time for a big-ish update:
Engine - So today I rebuilt the bottom end of the 1.6. Crank was already done, so just piston rings, shells and ARP bolts. Surprisingly easy to do, have a few issues with the piston ring compresser, but it was user error, where it didn't sit flush with the block the lower ring was popping out. Once that was done i started cleaning up my new cam cover (cheers 45_CB) and painting up other random bits and pieces. Then got bored a fitted more 'stuff' to the block such as starter, alternator bracket, pipe work, etc. whilst that was drying I started to try and remove my standard cam to clean the cam carrier, but i was being a muppet - should be sorted tomorrow. So all i need now is a cam, lifters, rockers, trust pads, 2 gaskets and the headbolts. Then i can finally fill it with oil to stop it rusting away. Next on the cards are rebuilding the carbs.

Random painted bits.
Bodywork - I've now got a new front panel and rear panel (GM) just on the look out for a full drivers rear quater. My welder is itching to get started so i better start stripping and preping soon-ish. Finally got the irmscher/sport side skirts and started preping them (cheers greg 1.4) along with starting to smooth my bumpers. Still trying to decide what cage I want, I'm thinking of just a rear one at the mo, but one i can upgrade to a full cage later if i want.

GM rear panel (note the dynamat i have to remove)
Interior - To early to say, looking at cobra daytona's, but i like my standard SR ones. The rear is going to be paneled out now with maybe a 10" sub behind each seat. when i get a proper car (daliy) then the sub will come out. Also trying to find the guy who said he would make suede roof linings, any ideas?
Random bits - the wheels i've got are being powered coated black and then a red vynal lip, but im also on the lookout for some comp MO's for track. All the suspenion is off and will be sent to a mate for powder coating soon and nova's are gay and i don't have a job or any money
PS: PHOTO'S WILL BE ADDED TOMORROW, DON'T WORRY
Sounding good :)

Using 3 mates and a jack, 'proper job!'
Only thing left in the car is the carpet and dash and glass now.
Given up biscuits for a while :(
Nice work Ash.
There are products you can get for putting in an engine to inhbit corrosion. Better than oil.
try looking on www.frostauto.co.uk
Look forward to seeing the shell prep started.
Cheers CG, that site confusses the hell out of me still lol I'll ring 'em up - it's easier. BTW it's www.frost.co.uk no auto.
I was having loads of fun (and cuts) from removing my dash and looms then set about the steering rack. One side was a nice simple nut and the other side had this wierd errr 'thing' (see pic) I can't see a way of undoing it, or am i being stoopid?

That red square seems to be attached btw.
Hopefully the welding and shell prep will be taking place next week :D thats between finding a temp and permanent job and lining out the loft, putting a ceilling up and going to billing. I wanna go back to uni with all the free money :( lol
You could try hammering a cheap socket onto that bolt, that might be enough to turn it. Failing that you could grind the head off.
For That Shear Bolt, Just Use A Hammer And Chissle, Had To Do This On Mine, A Few Whacks With The Hammer/chissle Combo Then It Just Undoes With Your Fingers.
P.s Nice Project Matey, Coming Along Nicely Now
