You got that box in yet fella? :)
Gonna go get it sat in place in a bit... You free tomoz or thrus?
Got the F28 fitted in place today..
First found with this much gap..
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...28fitting2.jpg
It was very close to here...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...28fitting4.jpg
After so tweeking, pulling, pushing, jacking, measuring i got it to fit better, rear mount looks like it lines have a bit of threaded bar in it at the mo.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...28fitting3.jpg
But here is where i have the prob. With everything in the right place (going by my measurement) i cant get the rubber mount in between the chassis leg and gear box mount..

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...28fitting7.jpg
Now slotting the holes in the box mount ever say 3mm will give me the room i need.. Shouldn't be a prob should it? I'm not a far of slotting mounts tho..
Have you loosened all the other engine mounts so there's some play in the others?
No, cause if i move it to far the other way the bottom pulley can start to catch...
Benn, i slotted the holes on the gearbox mount so i could slide it about on the box. That will solve your current issues.
Benn what bottom pulley are you using standard XE/LET? or a single vee one?
Damo.
I did wonder if you ment these Rick, I'll slot them up, then weld them up after.
Damen, i have a twin V belt one with the outer ring machined off.
If your running a standard pulley with the outer vee machined off you should have loads of room for manover surely?
Im running the standard twin vee on mine with standard rubber mounts and ive no catching issues!
But as already been said benn if you can slot the mount easy enough then do that mate weld washers ontop too to keep the strength like iain did to his rear mount.
But keep up the good work mate.
Damo.
Benn if you slot them then its only like the standard nova mount as thats elongated side to side where it meats the rubber.Quote:

Good work btw. Couldnt of been easy for you taking a grinder to your bay but I promise you, you wont regret it!
Yer mate should be when were you thinking exactly?Quote:

Yep yep that's what i was thinking, Once it's in and happy i can weld them up in the right place.. Don't like the thought that they can move..Quote:

So i better not regret it, shouldn't tho. I'll have a stronger gearbox that's mostly the same as the old one but with better cruzing revs

Cheers dude :) Annoyingly i couldn't find any of my nice masks....
Daft question on the mount issue mate are you using a nova front engine rubber. the reason I ask is I was using the 10mm thicker corsa rubber and I had this problem when I was lining up the new mount for the F28.
Good work btw
I'm using a new Nova one. But i'll check it to what's on the drivers side..
Cheers dude.
THats a good point. I remember (long time ago now tho) when doing mine I ordered a nova one from autovaux but it was an astra one which they told me was the same but it isnt, it pertrudes more.
No probs mate :thumb:Quote:

Yeah yeah, txt me before you leave.
Can't wait to see updates :-)
They are above and a page back... Just awaiting the mount then can get he last fitted...
I mean more updates.. I like updates lol
So holes slotted, had to do 4 out of the 5 annoyingly. But it means everything fits on now..

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...8fitpart27.jpg
Did a bit of adjusting and checking..
Sound it was getting this..
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...8fitpart25.jpg
Moving jacking and messing about but got this...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...8fitpart22.jpg
Then found this...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...8fitpart24.jpg
Re did it so the rear mount lines up (as well as it can with no rear bolts in it) But then the engine wasn't level.. But As i've been reminded the car might not be sitting level..
So its now all ready for welding.
Found i'm gonna need to play here tho...

looking good bud will be intresting to see how you get on with the intercooler pipework iv still to overcome that myself well once engine goes in.lol
Bit opf a play with the silicone tubing will sort it i think..
twist the 90deg bend off the cooler so it points up and goes over the mount? thats how ive run mine, should still be able to hide the pipework.
Are you welding that mount on without bolting the rear on first??
Good work benn id bolt the rear mount up tbh before you weld the new mount to the car just to double check that its right as it'd be a pain to get off once welded lol.
Damo.
Fair play to you benn, does the rad water pipe fit or does that need adjusting too, Was going for f28 in my saloon think you have just put me of lmao....
I'll look at that, the rear mount as two bits of threaded bar thru the holes where the bolts would go, which are screwed in to the holes in the box.. Would think that's ok...Quote:

I'd get it all bolted up properly ben. Good work thus far!
I'm using a empty dead casing, so the holes are the rear haven't been drilled and taped. But the holes are m8, so i have threaded bar thru the mount and in to the holes.. To make sure it lines up. In the pics it was before i moved it to line up with the rear mount.Quote:

Did a final check up today, thanks to Dan for helping me.
Then James (CountVaux) came over with a very heavy duty welding for some action.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...ntwelding3.jpg
Looking nice.
Action shot..
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...ntwelding2.jpg
You can see the penetration well, but has been welded on the inside too.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...ntwelding4.jpg
Nice beading, the holes been re-plated too.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...ntwelding5.jpg
Almost a shame to smooth over it all.. But needs to be done.
Well, I thought my welding was going alright considering the conditions, but after looking at that I think I give up lol
Fair play on James' behalf, that lads got skills
