Just get a helix mate with an organic plate.
Dude their like £350....
so? do it right, do it once!
I have a £35 remanucfactored(sp?) clutch in it at the mo, its lasted almost two years with the let in (2years with the xe) and its only slips when powering on in 5th...
^ where you get that from? Details Benn, details! lol
My work, i got it before i worked there, Re-made by National.. I was proper poor back then (working in the bodyshop) so £35 quid was great. Its gotta have done 15k+. I think its hugely down to how you drive...
Would you be able to get it again i.e. for me? DId you get it in bits or a kit? (as from what I remember you need the LET pressure plate and XE friction discs to use with the F20)
If i had a daily driver and the clutch needed changing every 2 years i would not be happylolQuote:

The Nova has only ever had 3 clutches. The XE one for about 4-5yrs then a LUK let one when I fitted the f28. That lasted 2 yrs until a day at the Pod smashed it to bits!
You say about not hitting that torque figure Benn but I was seeing over 300lbft on a RR on P2 and head mods.
I might be able too, not sure tho. No this is all Xe bits as its being used on a F20 and flat flywheel.Quote:

I would at least go with a helix organic clutch, also your aware the let pressure plate is a bit stronger than the xe? Why are you using a flat flywheel?
just sold a paddle clutch plate would have been spot on for you
Ahh right, I currently have a LET fly so I'll need the pressure plate fomr one.Quote:

Been told you cant gt the uprated ones any more, that's why the price is high.. I think.Quote:

Ah yes, silly me i smoothed the mount it, so finding where the mouth starts and stops and where the spot welds are will be fun..

Ah well, grinder out and cut the thing off then clean up. The box is now all ready to come out every things off.
Stripped the shaft down ready for chroming.

Pics are a bit poo cause they are from my phone which was misting up in the cold... Sorry the bays dirty too..lol More soon.
Love this nova, best 1 i've seen ... keep up the good work Benn
Nice to see some progress mate.
Getting stuck in... nice!
Cheers Knighty,
Ben, didn't really get much done/as much as i'd have liked. But i want a hand when it comes to removing it as the engine will be standing/being supported as it will only have one mount on it and i'll be tugging at it to get the box off.
Need to take a few measurement to moz.
Cheers Tex.
Love all the smoothed bits :) :thumb:
Cheers Cle.

Got the box off to day with help from Dan (cheers dude)

Mean i can now cut the mount of and stuff...
Hhmm odd wear...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...n/IMG_9367.jpg
Cant really see it, but the bearing face is mirror finished..
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...n/IMG_9366.jpg
With the clutch off, we noticed that it only has wear on the outer half inch...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...n/IMG_9368.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...n/IMG_9372.jpg
Hight spot, only one tho...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...n/IMG_9371.jpg
No real wear here, even tho it's been slipping..
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...n/IMG_9374.jpg
Hhhmmm smell the cheapness...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...n/IMG_9376.jpg
Now the flywheel has these odd marks... Should they be there?
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...n/IMG_9377.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...n/IMG_9379.jpg
Now for years with struggled like c**ts getting the flywheels off as it seems to come off every engine swap. So i picked up a pair of these, why i haven't before..
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...n/IMG_9380.jpg
Lock and hold the teeth very well. Made it easy getting the bottom pulley bolt off too
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...n/IMG_9381.jpg
Got to get some new cutting discs to remove the mount, then its all go.
Loving those locking thingies! They universal or vaux specific? How much? Where from?
Looking forward to seeing the grinder out...
They are from draper via work, says fits all engines as they are slotted. But then on the box says they are only meant for ****ron engines... But as you can see they fit, but will need the holes opening if you wanna use a normal gearbox bolt (i have nut and bolts)
Gonna weld up the two holes in front of the mount too for a cleaner look.
Nice too see some progress Benn
Any idea how much retail those flywheel locking tools are ? I could do with a pair
Edd
They are about a tenner each... Want me to order a few? lol
What about the odd wear?
Ive done a few clutchs on cars and i havent seen those marks on the flywheel before, but tbh i havent really looked to see if they were there so could just be what happens.
The marks are just because of heat with the clutch sliping.
Good progress Benn :thumb:

the marks are from the clutch slipping and getting too hot. get some emery tape on it, wont make it perfect but something we always do at work when doing a clutch.
Yeah? I've done clutches before, but not seen marks like it.Quote:

Benn, do all motorfactors do them flywheel locks?
I have a stubborn bottom gulley Bolt on a mates engine down my garage.
Where can we get them?
Not many motor factors sell them locking tools. Most will probably be able order them from draper though.
The fly looks fine, yes its got hot as fook (everytime its used) lol
Benn, are there any cracks in the surface? Excess heat from slippage will cause cracking. If no cracks then its fine really.
