That pic showing it routed under the car is with the wheel at full lock left, so should clear. Just.

good stuff, i swear my wheels come alot closer to the tie bar then that
slicks look awsome!!
Nice work on the ducts, they blend in well.
Liking the slicks.
Decent work on the ducts, got the right idea aiming it at the centre of the disc too :)
Liking the man tyres too, just be careful they're not more man than you are :gay: lol
Hope you have a well baffled sump ,using slicks Ian ,i found out the hard way
MK999 I realised pointing it at the front meant the caliper and carrier blocked the disc entirely, so hopefully I can channel it into the centre of the disc and it'll be effective.
Toymex thats something I did ponder the other day actually, not sure whether to give it a go or plan ahead and fit one before the first trackday... The XE has a baffle plate above the sump which the smallblocks don't have do they?
Centre of the disc is ideal as the brake disc cooling is basically a centrifugal air pump formed by the rotating fins.
Seems those slicks are more man than you and your sump then :p
You want something like:

or:

For high scoring man points :d
Nice mods Iain, good work.
Agree'd on the slicks unfortunately. I wouldnt even entertain the idea without a fully rose jointed front end and a dry sump setup.
ive got a sump for sale if you want one to baffle out :d
My sump was baffled when it suffered from oil starvation ,its the long sweeping bends that are the killers
Slicks look mean as ****!
Looking good dude'
Will look at baffled sumps, probably a good idea, cheers guys.
I would look into an Accusump aswell to be on the safe side
I'm trying to spend less on the thing nowa days lol
Wow things have got a tad more purposeful round 'ere, looks nails.
Maybe keep a beadie eye out on the competition/race/rally scene/forums etc for used competition wet and dry sump set ups - the c20xe is a lot more popular that most vauxhall engines; stand a better chance of finding something suitable.
I seem to remember finding some interesting stuff on westfield/caterham sites? (though that might have been more to so with finding rwd sumps to fit c20xe's)
Failing that, find a good credit card? :-)
I'm impressed with the brake cooling vents, looks like they are reallly going to work, for the end at the brake are you looking to use somethine like a thin hoover attchment end to create some jet pressure and direct the air or will this type of shape just restrict the flow?
If you want the details of a friend of mine he will be more than happy to tig a baffle into your sump.
Think he charges £50, I have one of his on mine.

Why would people not use the slicks till the sumps done and stuff?
Phenomenol grip will pull the oil away from the pick-up.
Which in turn will result in blue engine parts.
The extra grip means everything on/in the car will get "thrown about" more and put under extra stress.
Ah i see, ok. Cheers guys. IaIn, best get on to Jonlem for a tie bar set up then....
Cheers, yeah hoover atachment is exactly what I had in mind! lol I will try and get some 2" steel tube and squash one end to narrow down the air to the right place.
Cheers for the info Craig, messaged him so will likely be using him if he's up for doing it
Dan runs 8-9'' wide wheels with slick tyres on his wide arch, not sure if he's baffled the sump??
Keep close tabs on this thread with a keen eye, loving the slicks - once you've ragged em about and got them up to temperature - you'll be amazed at the corner speeds & grip they produce!
I like how your car is evolving...
Welcome back Mr Hewitt
this car needs tb's.
Cheers Olly, yeah looking forward to getting them on and seeing how they feel as I've never driven on slicks before. Had the remaining 5 fitted up today so all ready to roll.
ITBs would be a fantastic addition but the key factor for me is insurance as I like to keep things legit and 100% declared. Looking for a trailer so possibly in March can either take it off the road or get a limited mileage policy for cheapness
Cheers for the welcome back Burgo my Northamptonshire squeeze x
Iain, keep it as it is regarding the engine, when the car starts to slow YOU down, that's when you hunt for more power, if you're off throttle, or braking earlier than you want to be, then you don't need any more power just yet.
At the moment, you may find the car has larger capabilities than the driver, that'll soon change as you do more trackdays!
When my car is fixed again, looking forward to you taking me out, and you can drive the Busa
You got any trackdays booked in the near future Iain?
Very True Ollie, I was feeling a little underpowered on the last Donington day I did which is why I prefer Blyton. See if the longer rev range/cams help things at all!
Busa drive accepted, although I'd be happy with just a passenger ride, sounds fun!
Adam nothing booked yet, insurance/MOT/tax is due in March and the Nova's off the road while the sump is baffled now so probably aim for April?
Well a bit of an all-over-the-place update and all off a camera phone unfortunately but here's what I've been up to
Swapped out my OMEX limiter with launch control for an Armtech unit as it has a built in shift light. Nice little unit and even fitted a clutch switch which triggers the rev limiter at whatever the current RPM is when the clutch is depressed for full throttle gearchanges

Tried to stop my alternator belt flipping inside out. You can see the pulleys are slightly out of line here:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2a/761.JPG
So off comes 1x alternator:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2a/762.JPG
A weird selection of spacers and stuff that positioned the top pulley! From the nut on the right anticlockwise to the fan at the top...
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2a/763.JPG
Elongated bracket holes for more on-car adjustment also:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2a/764.JPG
Bolted it back together with one less spacer:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2a/765.JPG
And so far so good, it seems to be far more in line.
Now I rounded off my oil level drain bolt a while ago and it's always bugged me, so took everything off to molegrip it out and also change a leaking driveshaft seal:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2a/766.JPG
The issue with the level bolt was that you couldn't get a socket on it, only an open ended spanner. So I fixed it once and for all. Take one bracket:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2a/767.JPG
Chop chop, weld weld:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2a/768.JPG
Smooth it all off:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2a/769.JPG
Looks factory!
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2a/770.JPG
And allows easy access to the level bolt like factory:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2a/771.JPG
Also sent my sump off for baffling by Dewis Motorsport on MIG, so I've now refitted this with a new baffle plate. Nice looking welding!
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2a/772.JPG
All the alt stuff i've done. Nice work. Love the rear mount mod, nice welding.
If your still after mk4 astra brake cooling ducts ive a pair here. (as well as a pair of vectra b gsi ones)
going to sound like such a brown nose'er, but every time this build pops up I'm impressed with the work done the car is so amazing
but i will never get in it again lol
Alternator seems happy now so I just need to order a 925 belt (the 913 is a little short) and I'm good to go
Gary sorted the brake cooling now with bumper intakes and ducting work.
TJ there's not a huge amount of interesting work occurring recently, you'll have to come along to a trackday with me though!
