My Nova Build -WIP-

More investigation into the oil leak today, and fingers & toes and everything else crossed, I think I've found the problem!!

Looks like its the camshaft oil seals leaking.... On the pictures I've circled where you can see some oil that has collected on the bottom edges of the seal seats. The exahust cam looks to be the worst as I can see from the back plate that its running down the back onto the top of the engine mount. This would also make sense as to why I saw the drops of oil from the thermostat housing.

On the plus side the crankshaft seal we did last week looks to be nice and dry now :d

So until I get some new seals next week I left it at this point and just gave everywhere a wipe down. Next up I painted up the mirror covers from the mirrors I got from Countvaux, cheers for them James :thumb:

Orange is just plasti-cote fluorescent orange. It's a nice bright one :)

I was just flicking through your diary and thought to myself how old/what sort of mileage have the cams done?

Could it be that the cams are worn where the seals sit and it’s actually the cams at fault and not the seals. It could also be the end cap not sealed properly. I would remove the seals and take the end cap off. Check the cam for wear at the location of the seal, pop a new seal on and then smear the underside of the end caps face to head with sealer to make sure oil isn't leaking there. Job done and happy days no more leaks, fingers crossed for you.

Hey Harvey, I can't remember what sort of mileage the engine has done. However when rebuilding I was told by a couple of people in the know that it's insides were in very good condition.

I did do the cam seals last weekend and have conquered the oil leak from the cams, however the Crank still looks to be seeping slightly, so just going to keep my eye on that for now. Just need to get my wiring finished for the dash... Especially having a little accident and frying my fuel pump wire! Not good!

also hows it running with the carbs etc - u done any tweaking?
