Test drive vid >>>>Here<<<<
Bit bumpy lol
Video is spot on mate!
Looks like mine in terms of "bumpyness"!
Is that knocking noise the exhaust on the floorpan? (Think I heard you mention it on the video...)
Sounds v. nice (throttle boddies... mmmmm!)
Rob.
Looks spot on, can't believe how quickly you've cracked on with it.
Good work.
Ian
what happened to it today bud?
i think you best wait for him to put up about that.
i hear piston decided to exit the block :(
Nightmare!
That is really not what you needed!
i know the big block is fat and heavy but there is no need to make holes in it to get the weight down :p

Righty, spent today undoing all my previous work! Managed to get the engine out and stripped down to a point where I ws able to work out what went wrong, and also the cars ready to recieve the new lump (which is already lined up thanks to Mr Marshall).
I decided the first job should be to get all the ancillarys off the engine, and remove the rocker cover (which I can fit to the new engine to save arsing about doing another breather mod)
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...P/DSC00150.jpg
Next job was to remove the head (which was a ballache, I really have NO room down the offside of the engine. I rekon it'll be an engine out job to do cambelt changes in the future, although the rate i go through engines may save me this problem anyway!) I was very relieved to find the head was untouched from the violence that went on below it!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...P/DSC00151.jpg
First look at the bottom end. That pistons a bit twisted LMAO
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...P/DSC00152.jpg
With the head off, i didnt need to jack the car up too high to drag it out, so i split the bottom end from the gearbox and started having a poke about.
Holy cow, thats a big ass hole!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...P/DSC00153.jpg
In fact, so big I could get my hand in and push the piston out of the bore! Here was the first clue, half a rod still atached to the gudgeon! Poor thing took a beating, no where near as bad as I was expecting, but seeing as the little end it pretty much locked solid onto the gudgeon pin (robably bent) its a write off.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...P/DSC00154.jpg
This was the only debris I found. A testament to ARP methinks! The rest of the rod and shells / bearings etc must have fecked off through the fist sized hole LOL
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...P/DSC00155.jpg
This is a cool pic. Shows that the crank is pretty much undamaged so that eliminates the bearing disintegrating, also shows a big hole something punched into the sump baffles
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...P/DSC00156.jpg
Another pic of the baffle. Not too bad, ill reuse it on the new engine I rekon.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...P/DSC00157.jpg
SO there we have it. Closer inspection of what I have left of the conrod, I can see evidence of a crack where the separation started, so basically, catastrophic rod failiure! Bless it, i did give the bastid a caning over the last few years!
Not how I was expecting to see the car so soon after finishing it! New engine will be chucked in in a few weeks when I can be ****d.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...P/DSC00160.jpg
At least you know whats caused the damage now. Good luck with the rebuild mate. at least your back in action shortly with another engine :):thumb:
The ARP's certainly did there job then, good to hear the head survived :)
Not as bad as I thought it would look. Your not using that splash plate again though.
Why not it has some clearance on it now lol.
Itll probably do its job better now lol. Dont worry, im going to chop out the bad bits. Obviously it depends on wether the new engine I get has one or not, but Id rather run with a damaged one than none at all!Quote:

Well i can say i might get to try and kill mine yet this year, the box is on,and it was ment to run...but...my braded pipes have split internaly, lol so new fuel line to presure reg then bit of welding diff swap manifold and system..map up off we pop lol/
Scott
After RJ asked for a hand fitting his engine, i thought it would be extremely embarrasing not having mine re-fitted before his. lol
Many thanks Mr Dave for the new lump. Despite it looking like its been at the bottom of the sea for a few years, he assures me its a good runner, so i got busy fitting a new cambelt and rollers, swapping my oil cooler over, and the rocker cover (turned out the one on the car had the breather bod done anyway, but it was worth doing in case it didnt.)
Next job was mating it with the gearbox (uber tricky on your own lol)
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...y/DSC00187.jpg
Then the labourious task of raising the car up using my almost useless engine hoist
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...y/DSC00186.jpg
Then the usual badgering about trying to line up mounting holes. Takes a while when you've not got a helper, but after stripping a load of skin of my hands, and a little bit of swearage, got it all bolted up.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...y/DSC00188.jpg
Takes next to no time plumbing everything back in when everythings to hand lol. All thats left are the shafts and the bodies (need an inlet gasket). SHould have it running when i go back up t'barn friday or saturday.
Top work :)
OOh, looking good sir ;)
Practicing for doing mine i see :P
lol, yeah, and your gonna get your fecking hands dirty too!
took your time didnt you, its been broke for weeks lol
I was skint, and then i got a dodgy virus lol
glad to see its almost running again bt
nice to see that you have made a start on it again bt.
hope this one lives longer..l:thumb:
It is a good runner better than that other one you killed on road test.
so he killed another 1 lol.
looking good mate and sorry out of inlet gaskets as you had my last 1.
That thing was rattling like a bag of spanners! And i only bounced it off the limiter twice lol
hope your new engine from dave is as good as mine mate if it is your on a winner
