Its hard enough trying to fit a box on your own with the engine removed lol
^ yea let alone with engine in
ahh well - still high in spirit lol -
will get it done tomorrow, buy some Comma AQ3 gear oil, and take her for spin... do a bolt check, check for leaks, make sure I can select all gears... then onto the next thing i need to get done before Saturday!
i take it you mean next saturday as its saturday now lol
yeah, thats right... Saturday 8th :)
want to get box in, seats in & on rails, polycarbs in, spray floor of interior, get rainsports fitted to spare cesaros!
all in a week you should have plenty of time to do that
Should be cool, i look forward to hearing that gearbox next Saturday
Hewitt, you owe me your first born daughter!
Take it you don't have a engine hoist then ??
lol
nope - no hoist, just two jacks.
in all seriousness though - couldn't have done it today without the help from Olly & Steve - thanks both loads if you read this
within 10 mins of Olly being here, we'd had a bellhousing bolt in, and they were mated, first time, then went in for a coffee then Steve arrived and we continued
unfortunately we had a bit of a disaster with the passenger shaft/ cv not going in due to over exagerrated shoulders on the circular circlip - after 2x brand new CV's - and a bit of effing and jeffing - we were rocking
(also after a trip down to motorfactors to buy more inner CVs lol)
set up linkage, went out for a drive, first of all - my god a plate diff is awesome in comparison to an ATB, feels great the fact its always engaged, much more torque steer, but i love that, kinda tells you "HEY IM HERE - DONT YOU FOOKING FORGET ABOUT ME, ELSE I'LL HAVE YOUR ASS"
very very happy, noise is awesome, diff is amazing - next up is a paddle clutch me thinks!
oh - had to lose speedo aswell, so will be looking how other plate diff users have made a speedo up, due to not having a an open cog in the speedo drive hole! any idas?
again - massive thanks to olly & steve again
bring on donny...
Nice.
Magnetic pickup sensor and wheel mounted on the cv joint could work for speedo.
Thats what Will F and Dan use/used iirc.
Needs an expensive elec speedo cash tho.
bring it up to mine lol
you know my post code fool, pm me yours and im on my way lolQuote:

3rd gear - 6800rpm - 71mph
4th gear - 6800rpm - 93mph
5th gear - 6800rpm - 112mph
That was using TomTom which doesnt update real time split second, so could be an mph or so here and there
Not sure how thats going to be at Donny on Saturday, as with standard box I was reaching limiter in 4th only down the Dunlop straight which is 122mph or there abouts
However, I will be probably be getting to 112mph faster, will this slow me down on the whole do you reckon?
Fcuking hell thats a long first gear.
If you reached 122mph, and your now limited to 112, then yeah your going be sitting on the limiter on the main straight, not really recommended.
Should be better once the tbs and management go on, higher limit.
If i can hit 110mph flat out in 5th in a nova sr down the straight at combe then your defo going to hit the limiter in 5th.
One of the reasons I went to f28 olly. I tend to do donnington more than any other track and was fustrated topping out on the back straight.
Why is there not much diffrence between 2nd and 3rd, i would though there would be more mph in between then that?
2nd gear - 6800rpm - 69mph
3rd gear - 6800rpm - 71mph
Scott
lol sorry, that 3rd must be 81mph, not 71mph
As said - these were on a TomTom that only updates every couple of seconds, and I wasn't holding it on the limiter for that long.
Not sure what to do about trackday now, i'll hit 112mph very quick now, even before the bridge, do i just sit on the limiter until the chicane? lol
Simps - what box were using to run out of gearing? thats some going!
I think I'll be quicker overall, throughout the rest of the track, just unsure what to do about the straight!
Just found some WIP pics from the gearbox swap which I didn't realise I took...
beefed up clutch arm

Speedo drive cut and sealed due to plate diff

Box out, waiting for new one on
http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q...ure/nc0457.jpg
Got nuts and bolts today for throttlebody setup
http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q...ure/nc0452.jpg
Made a little plate over stereo hole for fuel pump switches, and others that I might use in the future (possibly fan etc)
http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q...ure/nc0453.jpg
Stripped down the polycarbs and gave them a clean up due to them being weathered etc... on with fitting them, and gutting out the door innards
http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q...ure/nc0454.jpg
Put rubber edging around (cheers for the link Dar) to save any mishaps on sharp edges
http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q...ure/nc0456.jpg
Here is one doors worth of junk
http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q...ure/nc0455.jpg
The weight of both front glass windows, glass quarter windows, rubbers, winder mechanisms and excess metal that was removed was 11.7kgs
The weight of 2x front polycarbs with sliders, and rubbers is 3.4kgs
Saving 8.3kgs just from the fronts alone
Plus the rear quarters glass was 4.3kgs, polycarbs were 1.7kgs pair
Plus rear window glas was 4.6kgs, polycarb equivilant was 1.9kgs
For those interested lol total weight saving from glass to polycarbs and gutting front door innards is: 13.6kgs total.
proper build now mr hewitt, i actually feel motivated by all this as i feel i may be outdone soon lol, so got cracking today with some more on mine!
cant wait til next weekend boyo.

Ol thats a crazy amount of weight saved in from just the windows alone...
I have been salvaging scrap's of 3mm Plexiglas from work, and i have enough now to make rear, rear 1/4 and front 1/4's im not sure if i will go to slider yet.
good job mate.
Scott

Finished passenger door having bought a new grinder after killing old one
http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q...ure/nc0462.jpg
Gut out the tailgate same as I did the doors, and ran edging strip around

Pics of the new gearbox in situ

Got a very very slight gearbox oil leak from the passenger driveshaft (probably seal), about a teaspoons worth over 2 nights, nothing drastic!
http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q...ure/nc0464.jpg
As much as we tried - kinda wrote the idea off that we'd get the new seats in before Saturday, my welder is playing up, and didnt want to go and lop out old runners, just incase we got caught out which meant we'd have to forfit the trackday, so staying with the current buckets for now.
Took inlet manifold for TB's to Wilcox Motorsport today to have the vacuum to servo return hole drilled & tapped into it, should be collecting that tomorrow
All's well.
Just need to find a new way of holding the polycarbs "up" in the door, as they rattle loose and slide down over a while
Cool.
I'll look forward to seeing it on Sat :)
Ol you see where the rubber runs along the bottom of the window,on the lip of the glass opening, could you not get some sort of a strip of alloy, or maybe a "U" shape channel alloy and fix it upside down to the window and the alloy then mounts onto to that lip of the opening, it's hard to explain how i mean, i just have an idea as we have this alloy split battern stuff at work and think it would work a treat!Quote:

Check my WIP Olly, theres a beter way to fit the front polys, theres also a part number and supplier for the rubber you need too.
EDIT.. Erm, I would change your clutch inspection plate before going to donny. One trip in the gravel and the your clutch is gonna get lunched!
Hes been told;) and actually has the rubber already. Can you remember the exact ammount to cut off? Or even better the height the window needs to be?Quote:

Got my new manifold from the chap I bought the TB's from
http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q...ure/nc0465.jpg
Took it straight around to Wilcox Competition Engines to have servo return drilled and tapped into it, and 2x 1/8th holes drilled in diagonally to create airways between cylinders 2 and 3 to prevent pulsating
http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q...ure/nc0467.jpg
Building bodies onto manifold
http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q...ure/nc0468.jpg
TPS added
http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q...ure/nc0469.jpg
All on, with 90mm trumpets, still awaiting backing plate and filter
http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q...ure/nc0470.jpg
Top side (using current injectors, so they're not on yet, as i'll swap them over)
http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q...ure/nc0471.jpg
Gave them a blasting with brake cleaner, all cleaned up now
http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q...ure/nc0473.jpg
Got this rather expensive Jenvey throttle linkage in with the sale so thought it'd be best to make use of it, took ages to build up - bloody fiddly thing!
http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q...ure/nc0472.jpg
Ordered my underslung linkage mount too, so the throttle linkage won't be seen at all, just the way I like it
http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q...ure/nc0474.jpg
My synchrometer arrived ready for installation
http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q...ure/nc0475.jpg
Nice.
Are the bodies going be on for the 27th?
hell yeah... Bodies, Management, ARPs, Seats, Acewell dash and Clutch... (hopefully) lol
Lmao, thats quite a list lol
Its going be awesome with the bodies on.
Ol the underslung linkages are a **** to put together, lol so many small bits. and the bracket had me miffed for a bit, i recon although its alot for what it is its worth it.
All looking good mate.
