Buy a centre punch.
im look at a set from toolstation right now, want some before i start messing about mounting the seats
bough a bench vice, only a small one but mehhhh
http://i475.photobucket.com/albums/r...t/SAM_1026.jpg
started bolting some body panels back on to check my paint lines & line up where the bonnet pins are going
http://i475.photobucket.com/albums/r...SAM_1027-1.jpg
now is it normall to see this gap under the bumper
http://i475.photobucket.com/albums/r...SAM_1028-1.jpg
im going to remove the bumper irion and hold it on with bonnet pins, and leave the 2 screws either side to make sure its lined up half right atless, also thinking about getting a square licence plate for the corner and drilling holes in the bumper to get more air on the rad
gap is normal mate
Instead of getting a square plate, get a stick on one and stick it on the bottom valance either in the middle or to one side.
today i done this
http://i475.photobucket.com/albums/r...t/DSC00020.jpg
http://i475.photobucket.com/albums/r...t/DSC00021.jpg
which has resulted in the bonnet looking like this
http://i475.photobucket.com/albums/r...t/DSC00025.jpg
 whoopsieeeee
this is where Ive placed the front bonnet pins
http://i475.photobucket.com/albums/r...t/DSC00026.jpg
wish i placed them further into the corners like every one else, that way they would have been square with the top ones I'm also putting in (isn't hindsight a lovely thing ) never mind this is only a stand in , eventually i will swap it for a fiberglass one and properly use locking bonnet pins
also im going to buy panel beating hammer to flatted out some of the creases in the bonnet and then wrap it to make it look a bit less battered
sorry, but what the hell did you take the bonnet frame off with, a spade?
bolster lol
it was full of dinks and dent when i got it back anyway so wasn't being to carefully tbh
f lol mowgli
it will be alright when I'm finished with it dont worry about it, and it will still be finished before his corsa lol
If its temporary why waste your time lol
I suppose I smashed up my old calibra for something to do
if it looks alright once wraped i might just leave it, dont really know right now
what i wanted to do this week end was get down the scrapyard to get a engine mount and the ruuber mounts for the radiator, but with all this rain i didnt like my chances crawling around a muddy yard wrestling with ****ty old vauxhalls :/
I was in the scrap yard chrismas eve at 8.00am as I dropped my mum at work and it's just along the road. It was freezing and I was close to the mud. Last time I saw a nova at any yards was 6 years ago
there was a nova in looms months and months ago now, was a shame to see it there as other then rusty wings and doors (easily replaceable) it was solid :(
Most cars nowadays are not all smashed up like they used to be
no work today as Ive had a water leak and been waiting about for a plumber, never mind lol
decided to have a go at straighting out the bonnet, so i gave the larger bulges a good tapping with a hammer with a block of wood held on the other side which got some of them out, after that i started using my paint/rust stripper on the drill and that seemed to force the smaller bulges down (weather it has something to do with the heat it was producing i dont know )

at this point i had to really fight the urge to just go over it all with some clear coat and leave it with this rough and ready/rat look, but i decided against it gave the bare metal areas a going over with some 800 wet and dry then red scotch padded the whole thing
gave the bare metal bits a coating of etch primer the started blasting it with high build white primer

black roll cage with yellow padding
yellow trackday wheels
already got black and yellow harnesses
floor pan and esued steering
already got a black suead stewering wheel with a yellow ring going round the top

still looks rough but I'm not going to keep arsing about with it, going to spray it with some satin black paint so its not just left in primer, take the bonnet pins off clean them back to metal, then when i get paid I'm going to get some Kevlar style vinyl wrap for it
hopefully it looks half decent when finished, and if not I'm going to take it back to metal let it rust, then clear coat it so it looks like i ment for it to be rough as a welsh bird
bye bye stupid support beam thing'ie'ma'bob

that will be all.
You can use corsa ones but i found the ruber bit to be different. youll need to use the whole rubber bit, cone and cap from a corsa
good stuff, ive got some other shocks in the garage but wasnt sure if it was a gm part or a spax one :thumb:
Looking at it again it is the spax bit you need as well.
dont go second guessing your self, from what ive seen now on the spax website you was right the first time mate
pulled the loom back into the engine bay, after giving the bay another coat of satin black

now I'm guessing this is part of a different loom, can anyone confirm that it is a engine loom for a Xe engine?
got the fan back in and was wondering if there is meant to be another cover on it as all the electrics seem really open to the elements!

the header tank is it really just held on by being slotted into the chassie leg? seems like it will just come out on a speed bump :tard:
all in all its been a good day progress wise, today is one of the first days working on the car that i havent felt completly overwhelmed, can almost see the light and the end of the tunnel, for the first time in years!!!! tempted not to sell it again now lol
Grey plug is ya black switched live and ya 2 brown plugs will be you washer pumps
Btw that loom you found is nowt to do with the xe
sweet cheers mate, where should i be looking for the connection that goes in to the coil? im guessing that its part of the engine loom
Yes it will be.
You can connect your switched live xe wire to the grey plug there
looking good :)
Fan will be fine that size. The header tank has a screw going through next to the turret on the back. Glad it's coming back together now, I can possibly bring mine over to see what colour wires go where if you still need a hand fitting the engine.
that would be ideal mate as there are some hoses that are baffling me aswell lol
iain do you have any hole saws aswell?
Only good one (or probably was, before I used it) is what I used for my rollcage profiling, which is 38mm I think?
thats alright i will go buy a cheapo set from tool station, i need a 60mm one to feed the wiring loom through the bulkhead
and some others to drill bad boi' holes in the front bumper
Just drill a series of smaller holes in a 60mm ring, then file the edges - thats what I did for my loom
Also, I wouldn't go round the turret again, I'd go inside
