Update
More progress has been carried out with the nove, seems like im making some good head way with it recently. Which is always great stuff.
Got all my bits and pieces for my loom
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...3102010146.jpg
Got the loom back in place to find the best way of tidying it up
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...3102010147.jpg
Instead of using the normal clips to hold the loom down ( which I don’t know what ive done with them), I got these self adhesive squares that can have a cable tie attached to them. Do a top job and were cheap enough. Lined them all across the dash part of the loom, down the sill and across the back panel. Recovered the loom in new black conduit and tied it into place.

http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...3102010149.jpg
As I want to hide the engine bay loom as much as possible, I bored out a hole that goes into the inside of the wing. Had to make the hole quite big to get the plugs through. L Ill deal with the engine bay part of the loom another time. I will be removing the blue conduit so nobody worry.
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...3102010148.jpg
Once I got all that done I moved onto getting the rear beam off, using my lovely new blue point jack, I got the nova up onto axle stands.
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...3102010151.jpg
SEXY!!^^
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...3102010153.jpg
Got the beam off in minutes, awaiting to strip it down for powder coat and rebuild.
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...3102010156.jpg
I got the beam to work and stripped it down, gave the drums a wire wheel along with the stub axles and bolts/clips etc.
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...7102010170.jpg
To remove the bushes I firstly cut the ends off both sides, then got a large socket to sit on the outer part of beam and a smaller socket on the inside of the bush all attached to a threaded bar.
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...6102010166.jpg
After lots of tightening and cringing about the bar bending and breaking I got the bushes out.
Bushless(always the best way :p )
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...6102010168.jpg
Check out the washer and nut!
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...6102010169.jpg
I gave the bolts, stub axles and brake hose clips a coating of hammerite black to freshen them up.
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...0102010171.jpg
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...0102010172.jpg
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...0102010173.jpg
I also made up 4 small plates to weld onto the rear beam to strengthen it for the coilovers. didn’t take any pics of this but self explanatory. Just like so….
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...1020101582.jpg
The beam, back plates, anti roll bar and my fuel tank are now at the powder coaters. I should see these back on Saturday, but as im working im unsure if I can collect them. No biggie.
The interior panels I made got some more attention too, fitted them back up and made the holes for the fir tree fixings to go into them.
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...0102010176.jpg
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...0102010179.jpg
I bought some ¼ inch foam and some faux leather ( yes I know I should have rear stuff but its expensive!) to cover them which arrived last week, yay.
Cut the shape of the panel into the foam, them used spray adhesive to stick it to the panel.
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...2112010180.jpg
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...2112010182.jpg
After that I cut the leather to panel shape and used the spray adhesive again to stick that down, unfortunately I cant use staples in the back to hold it down as the wood is too thin. So far using the glue and numerous blocks of wood to fix the leather in place is working ok.
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...2112010183.jpg
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...2112010184.jpg
Only managed to get the one done today, should get another done tomorrow. Pic of this one fitted in place.
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...8/DSCN0682.jpg
Hopefully the foam puffs back out a bit to remove finger marks.
Thanks for looking
bruce
forgot to mention, i repainted the underside of the car with body colour now.

Great work mate :thumb:
Looking nice, now this might be a bit late to do it, but can you somehow fix the "fur tree fixings onto the panel and then cover them, this way they would be totally hidden just like proper GM stuff is etc..
Good progress mate, oh any link to the jack??
Scott
tek, cheers buddy.
unfortunately scott ive just finished making the rest of the panels. :tard: im quite happy to leave it how they are for now, the faux leather was only 7quid so if i change my mind it wont cost the earth to do so. thanks for advice though.:thumb: one thing i am concerned about is that the hardboard is only 3mm thick, prising the fir trees out does bend the wood. doing this with the trees attached to the board over time, i imagine, would ruin the hole and the board.
i got the jack through my local snap on dealer, 105pound on offer. which isnt bad considering its low entry and lifts it as high as any normal jack (50cm) plus, if it goes wrong its repaired free.
update
as above, got all the rest of the panels covered with foam and the leather.

http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...1120102002.jpg
gave the drums a second coating of hammerite too.
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...3112010189.jpg
would be nice to start sorting the cage and rear brace out to be painted, ive still got to sort out the filler neck pipework. wont be able to do that untill ive got the tank back in and modyfied the original filler neck. shouldnt be long though.
bruce
Fair enough mate, as long your happy with them then.
They look nice though.
Scott
cheers scott, glad i did them like this to match the front leather cards. also a hell of alot cheaper than carbon fibre!!
minor update
went and picked up my powder coated parts. all uber shiney in a gloss black. the tank has come out exceptional considering the state it was in.
took all my bits to assemble the rear beam at work
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...9112010201.jpg
got started on it today, cleaned up the mating surfaces for the back plates and stub axles so it all fits together nicely. got them bolted on and the anti roll bar back in. havnt got pics of this at the mo. hopefully get the poly bushes in and move onto making the brake pipes.
updates to come soon.
bruce
Ooooh very nice finish on them bits.
great work mate,
cheers boys.
got the bushes and braided flexi hoses on today. couldnt be bothered to make up the brake pipes as i wanted my lunch. :d

http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...0112010204.jpg
What bushes you using?
same as you, the ones from rally design. there so much easier to fit than the last crap ones i had from ebay. these just tap in, then you tap the rod through. the ebay ones you got to cut, grind and re-shape them before you press them in. gay...
So glad to hear that mate, need to get mine fitted still but nice to hear they're good quality.
they definately are. sure you'll be out testing your car before me so you can let me know what you think of them. :)
Well hopefully dude, I am planning a before new year finish date (or running date). But as with a lot of deadlines, they are normally extended lol
tell me about it. good things come to those who wait.
Yeah true but it takes too long! lol
mmmmm fresh....
Update
Have had a real good day today, got all of what I wanted to do done and more. Some hicups did crop up, but when don’t they.
My attention today was on the back end still. Plans were to get the beam back up with the coilovers fitted and hopefully the fuel tank back in. my day goes as follows…
Wire wheeled the fuel tank straps and painted them black. While waiting for the paint to dry I put some new foam on the tank. This is replacing the bitumen strips that’s normally on there. I used the foam I had spare from making the rear door cards, this was placed on top of double sided foam tape.
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...8/DSCN0063.jpg
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...8/DSCN0072.jpg
Fitted the old thin breather hose and new 13mm I.D hose for the big breather. Bought a meter of the hose as its got to reach up to where the fuel cap is now relocated to.
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...8/DSCN0095.jpg
Also fitted the sender unit and painted that black.
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...8/DSCN0096.jpg
On to the beam now. I bought 2 new wheels cylinders to fit to the back plates and made up 2 new brake pipes to mount onto the beam
Managed to get the beam back into place, the one side kept coming away from the mounting point every time I tried to get the other side lined up. How annoying!! Arrgh! Slipped the bolts in but didn’t tighten the nuts.
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...8/DSCN0081.jpg
Offered the coilovers up to see if they fitted….guess what?? They didn’t. id like to say I had to massage the body work in, but that would be a lie. I beat the shxt out of it to make them fit. Only to realise that once the beam is in the correct sitting postion, the coilovers move outwards creating more of a gap between the body.

http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...8/DSCN0087.jpg
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...8/DSCN0092.jpg
Back to the fuel tank now, got it up on the jack so I could position it right, fed the brather hose though the chassis leg and into the arch. Swung the straps around the tank and bolted it up.
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...8/DSCN0100.jpg
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...8/DSCN0102.jpg
Ill start sorting out the filler neck this week coming
As I don’t want the brake pipes ive made to go a funny colour or the nuts to corrode onto the copper pipe, I decided to paint them. Thought red was most suitable as that’s the accent colour for the car. Think they look rather good tbh.

Heres a couple daylight pics of the rear panels I made, the other pics were rather useless.

Thanks all for looking.
bruce
Looks minty fresh that bruce well done mate.
Keep it up.
Top work Bruce. loving the red brake lines :p
Under side looks good dude.
Mate, what is the internal diameter of the little tiny breather hose next to the larger one? My one has cracked and is in three pieces, need to get a new one.Quote:

afaik tek its 5mm, i might be wrong though.
Mate gutted you beat the inner arches! i did this very same mistake on my old GSi to then reallies that they moved out wards when the cars back on the deck, they do touch when the inners when the beams fully dropped/car jacked off the floor etc..
BUT apart from that mate it's looking really nice and clean..
Scott
thanks scott, was a real bummer. have gave the arches another lick of paint so they look the same as they did...kind of.
update
had a couple days off last week so got a little bit more done.
got the shoes, drums and hand brake cables back on. all lubricated where necessary and adjusted correctly. i painted the yoke on the which join both h.brake cables together as that was rusty as a mo fo.
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...8/DSCN0119.jpg
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...8/DSCN0118.jpg
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...8/DSCN0121.jpg
i made a move on with the rest of the brake pipes, flared the ends and routed them in the original clips. still yet to paint them as i got sort out the one niggle where the one comes across. will get that done at some point. drilled the holes for the male joiners to go through into the car. gave each drilled hole a dab of paint so it dont rust.
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...8/DSCN0243.jpg
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...8/DSCN0244.jpg
moving further into the car, made up 2 more pipes with female ends and routed them carfully on the floor pan and up on the exhaust tunnel. both come out into the engine bay just below the brake servo. i riveted the pipes down using 'p' clips and aluminium rivets.
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...8/DSCN0252.jpg
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...8/DSCN0245.jpg
was going to make a start on the fuel pipes coming through the car but i couldnt decide where i wanted them to come out into the engine bay.
that will be this weeks progress if i get time to myself.
bruce
Keep it up! Looking well so far!
Nice work with the brake lines.
Good progress there! looks very nice.
yeah top wor bud looking awsome.
what kind of paint you use for your brake lines?
thanks for all the comments! really does help with a builld.
its plasti-cote spray paint, comes in a yellow can and can be bought from b and q. didnt fancy halfords stuff and it seems quite tough compared to it.
they look really good mite have to invest in a couple cans for my project.lol
cheers mark
Nice one Bruce - it's coming on quite well now!
update
been a while since i updated this last, mainly due to the weather not allowing me to do much work. also having a brake pipe rust out on my vectra which didnt help matters. any way, on to the show....
since owning my vectra, ive known my brake pipes were quite corroded. i knew this 2 years ago but couldnt ever be bother to replace them. after going around a round about my hand brake light came on, checked the hand brake was off and gave it a wiggle incase the swith for the light was playing up. but to no avail, it never went off. pulled over and checked my brake fluid level, this was the culprit. went into work the nect day (saturday) to inspect my leak and the brake pipe that runs up above the rear suspension had corroded through. so i cracked on and lowered the rear subframe and removed the offending pipe. made up a new one, fitted and pressure bled the system. hooray, no more leaks.

http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...8012011022.jpg
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...8012011024.jpg
gave the car a bit of a look over only to find this...
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...8012011025.jpg
a few cable ties have sorted it for now. lol
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...8012011026.jpg
onto the nova, the filler neck has been my main priority as i knew this would take all my brain power to route and make it. i bought some marine grade fuel hose, 51mm and 38mm thickness. tough isnt the word!! cut up some sections and the old filler neck and try to arrange a decent lay out.
i had to bore out a 38mm hole for the fuel hose to pass though from inside the rear arch into the inside where the rear door card sits.
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...0012011042.jpg
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...0012011039.jpg
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...0012011043.jpg
i got this far as a real rough start. i then purchased a 38mm 45 deg alloy pipe to sort out the rest of the pipe work. welded back on the breather pipe to the highest point of the first joint. once i was happy with it all i gave all the pipes a lick of paint to tart them up.
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...6012011055.jpg
my filler cap i had already stripped down due to needing to get a new set of keys for the barrel. ive also been in a pickle with what grey i want to use on the skirts, window surrounds and the fuel filler cap. i bought rover tempest grey and car plan grey 01. i tried the the car plan grey and to my surprise the colour is a god damn good colour. exactly the type of grey i was looking for. i never tried the other colour as i can return that now. :d
prepped, primed and painted both parts of the cap. re-assembled the barrel section of the cap and bought new stainless bolts for the mounting points on the cap.

http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...6012011054.jpg
with all my parts painted a couldnt wait to assemble them back on the car. lots of fiddling and twisting, i got the pipes in the correct place to be the finished article. rather pleased with how it came out. could have been a little tidier.
