Doubt it'll be at any shows this year! Thanks all, it's not that bad when you get stuck in to it.
Dude bit off topic, but what head light bulbs was it you had in the nova?
Scott
Very off topic lol I had Osram Silverstar bulbs.
Cheers dude, just remember them being very good bulbs etc.
some very good work i see there iain :) when get my nova running will nip over and have a look at some of the work :)
Some progress on the seat brackets.
3mm Spreader plates, roughly 70mm x 70mm:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/233.JPG
Which will sit roughly like this:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/234.JPG
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/235.JPG
Aiming to have the passenger seat around here:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/236.JPG
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/237.JPG
Some room to get to the harness mounting eyebolt now:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/238.JPG
Seat rails will be made from 25mm x 25mm x 3mm box section (my pole only just fits in my garage, har har):
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/239.JPG
Cut to roughly the right size:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/240.JPG
"All this looks very heavy!" I hear you cry.
All 8 spreader plates weigh roughly 1kg:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/241.JPG
And 2 seat rails weigh roughly 2kg:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/242.JPG
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/243.JPG
So each seat rail setup will weigh approx 2.5kg. Each seat weighs approx 6.6kg. This is a combined weight of 9.1kg per side - a saving of nearly 6kg per seat over the original setup.
good lad for weighing it all
the seat is awesome.. proper suggestive
Nice one, so your old buckets/frames were around 15kg each???
Yeah the Forzas coupled with Corbeau Nova-tailored subframes were roughly 15kg on my bathroom scales.
Just sat and read through the hole thread and I'm really impressed what you've taken on and had a go at! Welding is very addictive when you first start out isn't it?! I've just had my new reactive welding helmet arrive and I'm itching to give it a go (although I shouldn't be with the ole carpal tunnel!) lol
Looking forward to more updates.
Thanks Simps, the whole thing has pretty much been a 'have a go at everything' and so far it's payed off. I agree, welding is great fun, wish I'd learned sooner!
Been treating some of the bay today, rust treating the surface rusted bit, when I came across this. Is there supposed to be a hole here?
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/244.JPG
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/245.JPG
This one's definitely not supposed to be here, grr thought I'd found all the rot!
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/246.JPG
Bit of rust killer to try and stop the surface bits:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/247.JPG
And a bit of filler here to make the rear seat bracket positions neat:

Also cancelled my order with Magnum Motorsport for the seat mounts. Rang after 2 weeks of hearing nothing to be told he was still waiting on stock - thanks for letting me know  So I've ordered some OMP univeral mounts:
http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/resour...66_E_LE_08.jpg
Looks like there is some superficial bits of rot there mate, as for the mounts, yeah that was nice of them eh!
did you notice Chris Astley does the same style ones you were after?
http://www.chrisastleymotorsport.com/images/ASMSR.jpg
http://www.chrisastleymotorsport.com...products_id=37
Then again, see looking at them if i went to a place i use to work at i could get the alloy to make some for free!
Scott
No that fist hole shouldnt be there, its the pannel join.
Ah cool, thanks for that Scott, they look exactly the same as the Magnum ones. Will get some of those instead
So that hole shouldn't be there? I'll chop the firewall out so I can get to it to fix it then :)
Why havent you fitted the quarters yet?
I want to get the seat rails in first, cos when you have the quarter off you can see down the sill so I can prime and paint where I've welded. Also when you're grinding and sanding inside they fill up with crap so might as well get all that done first too.
Figured at least part of the firewall would have to go to patch the rust up properly, and seeing as I fancied chopping something up I just removed the whole firewall.
Drilled off the battery clamp bit, battery will be relocated now:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/250.JPG
Ehhh manky under there, it's even rusted through so it'll need chopping out and replacing:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/251.JPG
Drilled off rest of firewall:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/252.JPG
Most of it gone:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/253.JPG
Bit behind turret was trickier but not impossible:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/254.JPG
Gone, more access to the rust hole now:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/255.JPG
Hmm remove this and run single wiper, or leave the std wiper motor?
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/256.JPG
Need to work out how to remove this from the top. I think there's 4 spot welds visible from inside but can't see any from the top:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/257.JPG
850g weight saving, better than nothing I guess!
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/258.JPG
Lob it out and go ZX wiper set up..
Just dont touch a ax motor, utter sh*te! Nice work, lot of metal taken out..
And the rear part of the battrey holder, just grind it off smooth.
Nice work, this is going to be one sorted shell when its all done
Olly's single wiper setup looks okay in the videos. Looks a bit silly with that small piece left, so I could maybe make up a new bracket for the wiper motor?
It's a lot of ****ing about with the OEM motor, better of getting a ZX set up, i have the AX one on mine, it works well, but the ZX gets a larger sweep, so i am going to change to this.
Scott
I have the nova motor on the ax set up, and its funking sh*te.
What have you done to use to work well?
****ing awsome work mate :thumb:
lovin the build :)
PM'd so not to spam the threadQuote:

Might as well post it here Scott, might help other people interested in doing the same :)
It's all in my WIP thread on page 22 and 23
BUT as said the ZX one works better then the AX.
Scott
awww well proud of ya
get the corsa wiper set up. plug a play then.
Nice work with the spot weld drilling but I would have got the grinder out and chopped it out personally lol
Just grind the other part of the battery flat like benn says. I tried drilling mineand its so piss thin you'll go through and end up having to weld holes up.
Ref wiper motor, run a ZX one. I made up a bracket for mine and it works fine...

It bolts into one of the holes for the old brake assembly. If you're still using the nova brake setup you could make it work with a longer bolt and a nut.
Hope this helps.
Thats swapping the motor over for the nova one btw.
Ah...So the ZX has a straight arm same as th AX, so in fact it's only the wiper arm thats going to increase the sweep of the blade!
Best look into a normal nova arm with long blade on then.
Scott
Yeah sits abit like mine in the AX bracket.Quote:

The arm is straight yeah. The arm I used was off a storm single wiper kit for a corsa.
I'm not sure what mines off, either an AX, or a rear wiper, not sure, but thinking about it you see you could get more sweep with a bent arm.
Scott
good work mate keep at it!
Thanks Simps and everybody for your help/comments.
Removed the rest of the firewall, wasn't too bad to remove:

Cut out hole by drivers turret:

Chopped out the manky bit of battery tray:

And, err, another bosh:

This is when I realised I might as well have just grinded the firewall as suggested above. lol I cut the remaining metal off as it offered no structural use at all and stitched it to the other layer:
