ive had 2 go with a chip and my dad had a heated focus screen go due to the chip in it.

I use warm water too I've never broken a screen. I have watched a chip become a full screen crack in seconds with the blowers on though

Hate to piss on your bonfire but i have used WARM water plenty of times, many a cold morning i've gone out with the kettle ( containing WARM water) to defrost my car and every car i've owned, never smashed a screen yet.

i've been wrong for 25 years them, i apologise, and i will go away and have a large horlicks to help me sleep tonight, then i'll be wrong again tomorrow....

and if i ever find someone who owns a vehicle that i swapped the head gasket on & it failed, i will apologise publically to them, but so far, it hasn't happened.....and if it does, i'll let you know.
