Roughly mark out the hole position and get cutting, with holesaw in my case.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v8...P/1e1845e1.jpg
Then on with the jigsaw, yes i cut the hole bigger than is needed tbh, but i dont want to find its too tight when i come to fitting the shifter....
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v8...P/9b616af0.jpg
Need get some more cutting discs tomorrow so i can cut the side bits of the panel flush with the transmission tunnel. The shifter rod hole will be getting covered too, so didnt need be mega neat.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v8...P/f339b80d.jpg
Remove nova shifter and compare to the now cut-down astra one, as you can see with the kink removed, the astra shifter rod is too short!!!!
Which means im going have to weld the astra end piece back on, and then weld the end of the nova one onto that  Lesson of the day is not use a astra shifter tbh, cally one seems to be more suitable.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v8...P/df84f9e2.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v8...P/5dd13b98.jpg
Also chucked the bodies back on to see how they sit with the firewall gone

Looking good.
Whilst undoing the nova linkage clamp bolt i noticed the linkage seemed a bit damp/dirty, turns out it looked like cv grease, uh oh
Yep, the bastid boot has split in half, leaving the cv joint just bare
Fook knows how long its been like that for, hoping the joint isnt knackered and i can get away with new grease and boot. Yet another job to do!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v8...P/42cd85fd.jpg
Maybe lucky to spot it though tbh, dont want the joint letting go at 100mph.... :wtf:
More tomorrow hopefully.
You could just extend the shifter with the piece you cut out... I was mocking this up earlier and looks like it should work fine - just remove both the kinks.
How??? The piece i cut out to remove the kinks now means its too short?
If i weld those bits back in i'll just be "re-fitting" the kinks?
Cut the kinks off either end and weld in the straight piece between them dummy.
Or get a different shifter that'll only require 1 cut. :)
I think im going weld that 3rd piece back onto the astra shifter(the bit with the small diameter end), and then weld the end of the nova one onto that.......
Or find a calibra shifter
Good work dude.
Today went quite well!
Old bit lopped off
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v8...P/027ecdd9.jpg
Test fit shifter, rod fits through hole, looks well
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v8...P/280b5999.jpg
Flushed the side bits of the carpet support, seam sealed them, and primered
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v8...P/9606e038.jpg
Bit of sheet metal cut to plate over the hole
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v8...P/3259c794.jpg
Cracked out the welder, had to wind the power right down to stop it blowing holes, had to do a load of spots in some places, and then join them...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v8...P/5a473332.jpg
Sealed and primered again. Also extended the rod hole in the floor slightly, under guidance from Lionel.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v8...P/331768ce.jpg
Now, the reason you cant use a mk3 astra shifter lol
The end piece slides into the linkage, whereas a nova end piece slides OVER the linkage...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v8...P/69165982.jpg
So a quick markup on the floor, and a measure and have a plan
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v8...P/5f568358.jpg
So did that. So good working on thick metal, wack the welder up full and go at it full bore!!!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v8...P/7935506b.jpg
Not 10000% straight, but im hoping i can correct that when i actually bolt the shifter down tomorrow. It all lines up on a "dry fit"
Looking good :)
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v8...P/6666a5b9.jpg
More tomorrow, hoping to have the shifter all fitted and working. And then can get back on fitting the bodies and Go-Tech.
Stop messing with the shifter, i want to see it running! lol
Can you get the lever turret further back than the std stick? It would be ideal as the std position favours grannies over lanky boyracers tbh, though the handbrake is then in the way of it .....
So do i lol
TBH though its a 20minute job to bolt the bodies on.
And about an hour will see the ecu in and wired up.....
So shouldnt be long tbh
You could put it wherever you wanted to mate.Quote:

Already test fitted its position earlier on today
that piece of metal where you welded must be piss thin on all nova's bec i must have blown 10 ****ing holes in mine when i welded it up lol even if you used a corsa shifter that bolts up from underneath and the gear linkage is in the way to do it up :(
Why do you need the Nova end? Isn't the whole point of this ia to bin the linkage no?
it moves the linkage above the floor so you can use the exhaust tunnel for an exhaust, the shifter still connects to the normal nova linkage via that slip coupling.Quote:

Can't say I've ever seen it done like that, must have not been looking... top idea though and I might have to look into it, my french diseasel pos has a better gear change on it!Quote:

2others have the same as ad.
None of them connect directly to the box. Only one ive seen like that is with a HH linkage, which i THINK Lee Hearsey uses.Quote:

You still keep the original nova linkage/S, just that now a cav/astra shifter connects to it instead of the nova one....
Meaning i can rotate my exhaust up into the tunnel to stop it bottoming out (remember you said it looked broken? lol)
Thats the only real reason i did it, and its cost me nothing to do.
Browney-Yeah mate it is piss think, i dont think its even a mil thick lol
Yeah just been looking at this thread and seen its only him that's done it (see edit above)
Cool :)
good work mate, will look forward to seeing it running
