Oil pump - refurb your one imo
I assumed they were for balancing, but didn't know if they were there as standard or if the crank has been balanced before.
Had some of the big end bearings off today to check for wear. There's a lot of marks and grooves in them, most of them you can feel with your nail. Does this mean they're fit for the bin?
Marked the caps with a file as per Haynes instructions:

Crank doesn't look too bad:

Then whipped off #4 as the crank was in the right position to do so. Bottom half:

Crank has some visible grooves on #4, I can just about feel one of them with my fingernail, is this bad?

I read up until you started tinkering with the engine and could read no more at this sitting.
Nice job on the arch roller, but.....does this mean you hacked up one of the famous skateboards? :(
Love the Revo's too! Guess our wheel convos can no longer take place! lol
The famous skateboard/engine moving tool has lost a wheel, but it'll get it back as the roller tool isn't that useful since all my arches are rolled already lol
Our wheel conversations always went along the same lines though? "Your Astra wheels look crap" "Yes" lol
Replace those shells, marking like that looks like lack of oil.
Got rest of the shells off, they're all in the same condition. Also removed the crankshaft to check the main bearings, they are all good except the end one which looks a little worse so I'll fit new ones of those too.

Worst one, still not bad:

Worth removing the pistons? I don't have the tool to refit them and Haynes says it can damage the rings if there's any lip on the block?

Crank looks ok, i've seen worse, just change the shells as you have them out already. (engines run with alot more wear than that..)
