as funky as your alternator bracket is, i think it will not be too reliable, and snap. if you put a pivot (bolt or similar) in the middle, then it will mimic the original bracket & you will remove unwanted stresses.

Good work mate, liking the alt bracket. Will it still require an earth strap?
lol, i could hang a ship of the alternator bracket.
its 5mm plate and an inch of weld. its not going to snap in a hurry IMO.
the only thing which i could do, it put a side plate on where it bolts to the manifold to stop any twisting.
thanks simps, im not sure tbh, but ill keep it in mind :)
the alt does need an earth. and i would strengthen it, i did one similar for an xe and the harmonic vibrations snapped it within 200 miles.
martin, you are stressing the bracket in 2 different directions when it is bolted up. and flat way on is no strength. it will get a stress crack.Quote:

i will look at the bracket and see if i can redesign, maybe using RJ's etc.
and mowgli, surlyit wouldnt fall off if the top bracket let go, it would just fall backwards.
ok i am off work for 5 days, so i done a few bits at work today so i can crack on.
my next plans are to mount the rad with some better brackets, work out my water pipes. buy some brake discs, and fit them and the brakes.
and then remove the engine i think...
made my ARB lowering bracket. good times.
