Wohoo! Tie bar bushes turned up yesterday, so i got up the barn to get the front suspension rebuilt and the car back on the floor!
First job was to fit aforementioned tiebars and bolt up to the TCA's using some nice new bottom balljoints :-)
(forgive the finger, that was Christian being helpful lol He brought me up a headlight switch though bless him, cheers pal)
Nothings being tightened too much as i still have to buy some new CV's to build my shafts up *d'oh*

Next to be thrown on was the hubs and coilovers Sorry for all the pics, but this will be the only time everything is so clean, i would imagine the massive amounts of infield and gravel will scrub it all up nicely bu next year LOL

Next up were the brakes, probably wont be on too long as the first 'after build' mod I have planned is a nice big set of Billet jobbies :-)

And there she be, back on the floor at last! That was pretty much all I could do till some more money appears in my account in a week or so, but its starting to look like a track car!

Next time I go up the barn I do intend to have a new oil filter, some oil, some coolant and a jerry can full of fuel. :-) :-)
About time:roll:
Looking alot more complete now:thumb:
Get that paint sorted and lets get the rest of the panels on:cool:
Ill pop up t'shop when i become slightly more flusher and get some, and we can have another bout of lung coatage lolQuote:

What gay blue colour? everythings going the same colour as the insidey bits?
Cool, I don't mind that. Going to look a tad odd with the bonnet & tailgate a different colour to the rest of the body.
EDIT: Your mouth looks painted on in that last piccy lol
I forgot about them, and its fecking green. Just because some tw@t at vauxhall called it blue, doesnt mean that it is! lol
Wont matter though, the graphite will dull the 'gay blue' in your lungs anyway.
Nah its deffo blue. I looked it up. Its Vauxhall Gay Blue, just ask for that when ordering the paint and they will mix up the right colour:thumb:
Despite the colour it really is all looking sweet now.
Cheers pal.
has any more money apperaed in the bank yet!! looking good but need Updates?
Should be some money arriving next week, but im on holiday then so wont be cracking on till I get back. Home straight now though, i intend to be done way before combe.

Id love to, but i value my testicles lol IIRC i refused to go away last year due to work, I cant refuse this year due to the car!Quote:

just read through the whole thread. very good progress, cant beleive how quickly its come together, well not exactly fast but faster than most rebuilds and much quicker than miner, mine still hasnt got an engine in it! got too many cars and engines ying about in the way at the moment.
theres a co.on ebay selling the fiberglass bonnet and boot...thought that may help
Already got them lol.
Bit of a boring update here, as im still going through a bit of a lean patcxh in regards to the ole fundage. Hopefully it'll be all finished on schedule, but i am no longer holding my breath lol. The frustrating thing is, if i had the funds, i could finish the bastid in a weekend!
Anyhow, went round Dars today as he has a nice space heater, and a vice. Both essentials in the job at hand!
Before..

I am so peed off that i cant crack on with the car, i couldnt be assed to get the tools out to put them on, so that little job can wait.
Looks **** that!
Thanks Stu, you leather clad tail gunner!

Get those shafts in, put all the fluids in and start it up:D
Im not a tail gunner, im a door gunner!!Quote:

come on Mr Lee
Due to a setback, the car wont be finished to spec for this season, but it WILL be track worthy for combe on the 21st. In which case..
Polycarbs are on hold, glass is going back in
New exhaust is on hold, so old manifold and system goes back on
Ill have to run on last seasons shonky tyres
I need to get a std windscreen rather than a heated jobbie.
Nothing will be painted (no major loss there)
No Diff :-(
Other than that, the brake lines still need to be done, but this can be completed relatively cheaply.
So today, I was up t'barn fixing the rear brakes on the SR, and Dar turned up to get cracking on it.
We fitted the 'zorst, fitted all the rear glass, bonnet, bumpers and tailgate, and all the remaining cage bars. All thats left is to sort the brake lines and get the engine started :-)

Big thanks to Dar once again for his kind assistance.
glad to hear its nearly done :thumb:
Great progress mate, like has been said who cares about a bit of paint, at worst how much is it gonna cost to have it blatted over in miami blue lol
Very productive day today!
First job was to finish fitting the driveshafts. Stubby one went in like a dream. Long one was a pain in the backside. When the hub nut was tightened up, it was locking the thing up solid! Dar had exactly the same problem with his, and he used Gary the Grinder to sort it out, so i took it back out and ground the sh1t out of it. Lovely and free now!
Once that was done, I could tighten up the struts and track rods tot he hub carrier, and track it up after setting the ride height properly. I used my state of the art tracking equipment which happens to be two long bits of wood, four bricks and my good eye. Set it to about 1 to 2 degrees toe in. PMSL

Once the car was tracked, i could fit me steering wheel properly. Dash looks much better now, and pretty much finished. The far left hand side wants neatening up, which ill do when i can get hold of some fomex from a client.

Dar turned up in the afternoon and proceeded to fit the front windows and rubbers, and then bodged them to stay up using cable ties. If you crab hold of the glass and yank it down, it cracks open about an inch. Bloody perfect!!!!! He also had a bit of a polish here and there to see how well the paints going to come up. By all accounts, looks like its going to be nice and shiney
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...DSC00128-2.jpg
Next on the agenda was to fit my camera mount. If its going to blow up / fall to bits / roll over on its maiden voyage, i want to record it lol :)
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...y/DSC00135.jpg
Next up was a few grill brackets
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...DSC00133-2.jpg
Lastly was the job ive been dreading most. Starting it! Spent about 6 weeks trying to remove the old oil filter which i really should have done with the engine out,a nd also should have remembered my filter wrench which was at home. Much stabbage with a screwdriver and it was off. New one on, new oil in, Coolant topped up, fan fitted to the rad, and then held my breath...
Not a single drop of a fuel leak! No coolant to be seen! Lots of smoke from WD40 on the manifold, but didnt even fluff a plug! Uber chuffed!! I think she might need a shim adjusting as theres a wee clacketty noise on come down, as you can hear, but nothing eb=ven slightly serious :)
As it seems to be the norm at the moment, i have a little video. I didnt film the first start though, as i was on my own and had to rush about checking for leakage.

Anyhoo, all thats left to do is fit a windscreen, and fit the rear brake lines when they turn up, and rebuild the rear brakes! I also have to get one of my tyres repaired this week at some point.
2 weeks to combe!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...y/DSC00138.jpg
half dash is cool...
need some gauges in the old heater control holes now
Good stuff.
Pmsl at setting the tracking.
looks good lee, sorry about the screen mate, have you sorted one out yet?
Yeah, picking one up from Stu next week. CHeers Mike, no probs!
Nearly there now.
Spent all saturday rebuilding the rear brakes, fitting the windscreen, and making up the rear brake lines, as well as topping up the gearbox oil. Then i went over it with a rag and some polish to spruce it up a bit, and spent for fecking ever cleaning the wheels!! Its basically finished! All it needs is a small fitment to attach the rear line to the MS, and a bit of superglue to hold the rubber onto the inside of the door to cover up the sharp edges!
Again a big thanks to Dar who popped up for a while to help. Youve been invaluable on this project pal!
More pics will follow on monday, as i intend to get it out in the sunshine, and maybe give it a wee blat up the road!

And if your's is a 1/2 dash. Then that must make mine a 1/4 dash..
looking good BT - now get out there and have some fun :thumb:
Lol i love the camera mount idea.. at least if you die in the car we can watch it lol ..
