Good work mate. Lets hope these hubs hold out better than the last ones did.
it moves :thumb: but it does need a good clean now and the drivers seat needs moving back so i can drive it:D
I'll give it a dust over in return for a few passenger laps sometime ;)
Looks ace Dar, nice idea with the underside, should help a bit!
Indeed, the only nova imo to look good with a centra exit exhaust. That diffuser is sexy too
Shows how detached from the nova scene I've become recently, I thought the splitter was a new mod :( Excellent work with the splitter though! I think it may benefit from being even larger (protuding further forward), the way you've extended it back behind the front bumper towards the tyres to form a 'tyre shelf' is good and should provide a small amount of downforce from the air thrown from the tread. As briefly mentioned in the drag factor thread, I reckon sealing off the base of the engine bay would be a good idea, to keep the pressure under the car as low as possible.
I advised a splitter for the front of the car that my mate races in the VLN at the 'ring and they noticed definate improvements, so I look forward to the results of any testing you get done!
Heres the splitter on their car, again they are gonna try increasing the size to see if there are further gains to be had.

Yup, mine does cover the whole of the bottom of the engine bay

I also reckon that extending it out further could produce some more benifits. The trouble I had was finding a big enough piece of wood. I was thinking about making an extendable flap so that I could slide it out or in to increase or decrease the length of the lip.
My wooden version will be replaced with a much nicer and much lighter version if it gives me any gains what so ever. I even have a man lined up to make it for me :D
It's a bit crude at the moment but it's helped to sort out mounting brackets and sizes etc etc. So it's good enough for the time being.
look forward to finally seeing this in the flesh in a couple of weeks mate :thumb:
Be cool if it works.
What did you say it was made out of again? Marine Ply? lol
Yup, currently Marine Ply :D
No point in spending to much ?? on a concept esp if it dosen't work.
EDIT: It's not as daft a material to use as you might think.
I spose if its light and strong, its perfect.
Ideal if it rains lol
Hi,
Very nice car Dar, just wondering have you got rid of the front bumper reinforcer when you put the bonnett pins through.
Cheers
Yeah, thats the way to do it. Before you remove the bar though, make sure you drill the holes for the pins through the square holes in the bar, through the bumper (where rthe brackets that hold the bar to the inner wings bolt on). This will ensure when you put the pins onto these inner wing mounts (which you keep), they will come through the bumper in exactly the right spot.
Nice one cheers for that, will do it on the weekend.
I know that this is a bit late now but I also have the sides fixed on with Dzus Fasteners. You can just see one in the piccy below
Anyhoo since the car was up in the air I thought I would take a piccy of the underside to show just how much this splitter covers.

look shexy Dar! really hope you see some good results on track bud
looking forward to saturday!
Me too, but I'm not really looking forward to sat. Well the driving the car part anyway. I just hope it all hangs together. Testing in public could be really embarrising.
However seeing everyone again will be cool and friday night will be fun :D
Good luck with it buddy:thumb:
friday night will be good and the car should be ok, llandow was just to tell you to be nice to it:thumb:Quote:

OFC it'll work. The theory is sound and the wood is large enough to make a notable effect.
Ok so it's wood, but this in itself might be considerably more durable than a glassfibre version. The thickness required for such a large aerodynamic aid made from another material might need some consideration.
To get any idea of the force it would be under - next time you feel like doing 130, open the window and put your hand out flat horizontally; now visualise something that's 50x the overall size of that hand wanting to bend and be pulled off it's mountings.
Look forward to seeing the results
So the great English weather put a dampner to testing the front splitter (although understeer was deffo not a problem!).
However it was a good shakedown for the car. The brakes finally started working properly and the repaired caliper stayed repaired.
The front splitter needs a small modification where the exhaust does actually touch it and because of the front splitter my trailer needs modifying. It's a struggle to get it on and off.
But i'm happy with the car pending anything nasty I find when it gets its post run inspection.
10:45am @ Castle Combe
Absolutely awesome video Dar :thumb: very smoooooth driving, experience of the track shines through alot!
Loved seeing my own car in the video, first time I've ever seen external footage.
Top bombing dude!
Thanks Olly, it's always great to see your car from the point of view of another:thumb:
It's even better in the dry, we will get some great footage throughout this year.
EDIT: In the process of rendering the muppet laps, will show you that when its done :thumb:
OK chap - still a bit annoyed for taking off - but hey - with every session being cut short (read: under 10 mins) I wanted to make the most of it, as its not exactly local to me lol
woot at muppet laps. Im totally gutted mine didnt work on that session :(
Great vid from session 1 :)
Broke the damn thing again :( This time the clutch has gone bye bye. It was smelling a bit funning on the first session, but we thought it was the brakes. Ho hum. I will post up the footage of the first run when I have it hosted.
I have decided that my car is trying to tell me to spend some money on it 'again!' but it is a lady and therefore will keep braking until I do. So watch this space ;)
I only had one session but the front splitter did make the car feel better. It's very hard to 'really' tell but it was very grippy after only one lap and just felt much pointier. I also found that the car was (when cornering on certain corners) bouncing the inner wheels enough off of the deck to make the engine pick up slightly (You will hear it in the vid). I have had it before but not as ponounced as this. Anyhoo the front splitter is staying for now so that I can test it further.
I also bought some new front springs but didn't get chance to fit them.
It was a great day at Combe though. Nice and sunny
Standard clutch?
Time for a paddle?
I bet Pod last week didn't do the clutch much good lol
Oh yes:thumb: One of those little ones if I can. Might as well get a new flywheel for it as well :DQuote:

Chris really was flying, passed most things on the track from what I saw. 'Shame' about that Z4 tho in the same session.
Wish I got there earlier to see your session Dar, maybe one day, when I'm older lol
