Crack on!
btw; is copper/nickel brake pipe a common thing?
Yeah, its also known as Kunifer. Its a lot more sturdy than copper so produces better bends & its got a nicer finish.
Also it does not corrode afaik, I personally hate copper so it was either this or steel pipe but steel is a bitch to work with
I used them same lines on my nova. Its much more maluble and dont go rusty !
Awesome work Rich, this is definately the BEST build I've read so far, everything is top drawer. I'm loving how pefectly clean it looks and the rust proofing looks unstoppable too!
Hell, I'm definately going to the shows now just to drool over this!
absolutely fantastic!
I love it so much i think some wee just came out with the excitement!! Top job.

Glad its coming along again Rich, and the standard is just so high.
Top work fella
cripes..
whos gonna fit those? lol
I work at a BMW dealer and we have a guy that comes in to fit the roof & bonnet decals to the Minis so he will hopefully be doing it
ah ^^ good plan , sir..
Fantastic build thred squire
Altho, having ready for this summer is going to take some doing!
Best WIP post that NL will probably ever see too.
There is not that much to do to be honest, most stuff is ready to be bolted on and I can strip and rebuild Novas with my eyes closed! Main problem is getting brake pipes done as its taking a few attempts to get each pipe right.
Engine is ready to be built so that will only take a few days and I just need a couple of bits powedercoating then its just assembly
Excellent news Rich, I hope you can finish it for 2008, it's going to blow everything else away at the shows :D
Keith
How is this going. Exelent work
The BEST Nova i have ever seen ever.......
got to be the best ever much respect
Update Update comon Rich lol
Just trying to sort the engine at the mo.
AST2 cam is in, head is cleaned up & valves ground in, new piston rings are fitted & all new rebuild parts are waiting to go on including....
New genuine hydraulic lifters
New genuine Oil, water & fuel pumps
New genuine top & bottom gasket sets
New bottom end bearings & piston rings
New head bolts, manifold studs & nuts
New Kent AST2 camshaft kit
New Irmscher vernier pulley
Irmscher cam cover
New recon dizzy
Etc, etc...
Borrowed a decent honing tool so should sort that shortly so it can be completed.
Picked up another tasty item....

Prob best known as a Mk1 Astra GTE tool kit, they were actually an accessory for Sporty model Novas aswell.
Its brand new & unused.
I still get a deep down sick with jealousy feeling everytime i look at that shell lol
My collection of gm parts helps ease it though as you're not the only one with chassis rails! Also got both rear quarters and a complete front panel/crossmember. Just the rest of the car to find lol
But where do you find all these bits?
I won't tell anyone else!!! (really, I wont!)
Knowing the right people, asking the right questions, Ebay & a bit of good old luck.
The missus calls it an obsession!
are you not putting the irmscher cam in then? just read from beginning, fantastic work, looks amazing, really like the look of your irmscher four branch manifold! ace!
maccas
No, not putting the Irmscher cam or exhaust manifold in yet, will save them for the next engine ;)
I will run the AST2 & a new Lexmaul stainless manifold I have for now.
Some amount of detail going into this Nova mate
Top work like :)
i envy your parts collection.. lol
good luck with the build.
btw did you get that boot vynl?

wow that is grate nice work mate looks better then new :thumb:
if jesus was to restore a nova sport... :)
Done a bit to the engine...
After stripping what turns out to be a VERY mint engine I thought I would give it a freshen up. Got a feeling it might have been a recon engine.
Acid cleaned the cylinder head

Before regrinding the valves in and rebuilding it with new hydraulic lifters, valve stem seals & Kent AST2 camshaft kit
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3.../IMAGE_101.jpg
Painted the block gloss black & honed the bores
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3.../IMAGE_098.jpg
And fitted new piston rings ready for the rebuild

nice 1 rich keep it up
Good progress mate :)
Looking good Rich. Are you going to leave the cylinder head / cam housing in bear alluminium? I tried a Alluminium VHT paint on mine, it looks great on application, however I can't see it being that durable, that matt finish doesn't like oil/grease/dirt etc. I may need to reconsider the finish.
Are you renewing the big-end, main shells too?
Dec
Yeah, I am leaving it bare aluminium & hoping it does not corrode in a hurry.
This engine will only be in for a year or so until I build a better tuned engine with the spare I have.
I am not too keen on painted engines apart from block engine enamel as if it start to flake or peel off it looks horrendous.
I have new genuine main shells & big end bearings which will be going on.
The engine appears to be a recon/replacement unit as it was mint when it was stripped. All the items we have removed to replace look new and the water galleries are clean & rust free.
I just thought it may as well have a freshen up while it was stripped.
I have everything new to go on once built aswell inc, dizzy, breather, water & oil pumps, studs & nuts, etc. I even found a brand new Irmscher manifold I forgot I had in the loft:roll:
Should be cool.
Clean, bare metal is definently best for heads/cam housings, looks so much better than painted.
Good work Rich! Engine looks spot on!
I left mine in bare alloy and it wont corrode as long as you spray with some WD40 or silicone spray to seal it.
   :thumb:
The makers of carcoon do a product to protect bare metals, any new pic's?Quote:
