personally for me the 16v discs set up has been fine. No fade at all on trackdays and plenty of bite when i want to anchor on. The key factor is your disc/pad choice imo

I'd rebuild the ATE 2L calipers, and get a good disc/pad combo.
Rite, been in the garage all of today (without reliesing it lol) and made some progress, the whole front end is now stripped, wings, bonnet, etc and engines almost ready to drop and i've found more rust! yay! but its not too bad or on panels im replacing anyway.

Avoid at all costs if you ever want to remove your panels again
Talking of replacing panels i won an ebay auction last night for a front panel, two wings and two rear arches for ?30 - ideal, i only need the front panel and maybe a wing (dunno if there mk1/2) so the rest is for sale, along with a few other bits in the for sale forum (good plug)
Will post pics when back at uni, forgot the cable for the camera.
The Plan:
Drop engine, bug John about my crank and flywheel, make car mobile again - go get scared at the price of bodywork these days, go pick up the panels and go back to uni.

Bisuit Compumption:
1 pkt of McVites Plain Chocolate coated Digestives
1 pkt of Jam Rings
4 crazy french bread things with jam
and 1 of mums posh cookie things :D
... feel a little sick
Sounds like its coming along nicely (slap yoself, for forgetting camera lead) LOL
You should have a firmer pedal with the 16v setup because they have a smaller slave cylinder than the V6 calipers. Everything tip top & as said some really good (expensive) discs & primarily pads will ensure the best stopping power.
Keep it up mate!
Personally i wasnt bowled over by the 2.0 16v setup i had. Very vague feeling.
Mintex discs and pads which faded so easily and eventually warped them. (not even on track driving - just heavy road use)
On went a set of drilled and grooved discs with greenstuff pads and to be honest it wasnt much better. Less fade but still not much 'bite'.
Looking for a better setup for the Corsa im buidling..... Any ideas??
wa hoo, my crank and flywheel is ready, plus with new heavy duty shells its come to ?168! I thought the ?203 orginally quoted was fair. Just going to pick it up now.

Can't real see much but a very good job, very happy :D
Brake wise, i think im just going to buy a new/refurbished set of ATE's like i got with DS2500 pads, dunno about discs tho - brembos maybe, also is a GSi servo any differant to mine (1.2)? worth changing?
Cheers for the comments again, sorry for lack of pics
Ash
GSi servo is bigger but that is of little help. What you want is a bigger bore master cylinder. Could try and make a Cav turbo one fit the Novas bracket, or track down a very early Astra GTE16v m/c. It needs to have horizontal mounting holes.
Ive always found GM discs to be good quality, have them drilled & use dot5 fluid.
Just keep with the 1.2 servo.
I've never had any problems with 2L brakes, and 1.2 servo/mc.
now i've got the crank back, i could start rebuilding, but John gave me some 1.6 16v pistons, is it worth fitting these? he thought there would be because theres more meat between the piston rings, there also flat top, unlike the dished 8v ones, so more compression. Only thing holding me back is, i resently bought a full set of rings for my 8v pistons (at ?60) of which only the top two fit the 16v piston, so i'll have to buy yet another set of lowers, so i'll have two sets of 8v's spare and have to wait till mid march to fit anything.
Also when fitting the new shells, shall i run a smear of oil over both sides or is there a special lube for this?
Cheers
Ash
rite ive decided to use the 8v pistons and if they break i got spare :D
just order lots of stuff for my carbs as well, all the jets, tubes and chokes etc. Almost sold them again and bought some GSXR 1100cc carbs, but then what would i write on the vinal, so i kept the T40's lol plus i just sprayed my inlet red, and who would want a red inlet manifold :tard:
