Thanks to everyone for all the positive comments so far it makes the effort worth while!
Benn - i would like it to see the road for the summer shows so time is short and there is lots to do.
CG - i have been staying after hours to get bits finished
Muzzy - the cooler pipe work advantage is enough of a reason in its self to fit the manifold imo. As said already the manifold allows much easier routing of the pipe work and reduces all the bends and twists the original pipework had - i will post a pic of the original manifold once its off the engine :thumb:
As burgo said its generally a less restrictive flowing design.
Scott - yep the job is ace!
Anyway here are today's efforts:
The primed o/s chassis leg and o/s turret pics that i missed earlier

The td leg against its petrol equivalent

Slam panel marked ready for removal
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/g.../NovaTD182.jpg
And out
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/g.../NovaTD184.jpg
The old bits from the td slam will be cut up to replace the red slam so it will be removable.

Then i positioned the rad were i wanted it, marked out were the new holes needed to be and hole sawed away. The rad has been centralised and moved further forward to allow for turbo clearance and access.

Here is the cooler balanced in position lol for marking purposes

Lower panel marked
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/g.../NovaTD189.jpg
And cut

http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/g.../NovaTD194.jpg
Scab central on the back side
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/g.../NovaTD191.jpg
Once i was happy with the shape of the cut out it was time to cut a piece of metal to suit, so out came the home sized guillotine very useful
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/g.../NovaTD195.jpg
chop chop
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/g.../NovaTD196.jpg
Turning my attention back to the front panel i started to have a further clean up with the grinder and sanding disc
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/g.../NovaTD197.jpg
This bottom edge looked grubby as fook to so it had to go
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/g.../NovaTD198.jpg
A little better
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/g.../NovaTD200.jpg
I shaped the new metal to suit the aperture with the grinder
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/g.../NovaTD201.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/g.../NovaTD202.jpg
Gave the aperture a clean up with some sand paper and busted some primer in there and on the back face of the new metal - i will stone chip it later.
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/g.../NovaTD203.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/g.../NovaTD204.jpg
Tacked it in
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/g.../NovaTD205.jpg
Then welded up the top edge
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/g.../NovaTD206.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/g.../NovaTD207.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/g.../NovaTD208.jpg
Followed by the bottom edge
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/g.../NovaTD209.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/g.../NovaTD210.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/g.../NovaTD211.jpg
Here is the drive way come the afternoon lol refreshments time...ham rolls and salt and vinegar crisps GO!
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/g.../NovaTD212.jpg
Once lunch was over it was time to clean up the front panel
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/g.../NovaTD213.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/g.../NovaTD214.jpg
I then turned over the lip at the bottom of the bottom panel and welded that up too, a little over kill perhaps but it made me feel better, this was a pain in the ass due to the rust.
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/g.../NovaTD215.jpg
Leaving that to cool off i turned my attention back to the o/s chassis leg, giving it a further trim and clean up leaving it looking quite respectable
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/g.../NovaTD216.jpg
On to the car its self i cut the petrol mount off the o/s chassis leg as i couldn't see any real reason to keep it. Then i cleaned it up with the sanding disc.
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/g.../NovaTD217.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/g.../NovaTD218.jpg
Time to overlay the old with the new
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/g.../NovaTD219.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/g.../NovaTD220.jpg
Allowing me to cut straight through them both meaning the new section is going to be very similar to the hole
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/g.../NovaTD221.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/g.../NovaTD222.jpg
awsome project buddy !
I found some rot lurking in the process
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/g.../NovaTD223.jpg
old and new side by side
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/g.../NovaTD224.jpg
And the rough cut hole in the chassis leg in need of some further fettling
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/g.../NovaTD225.jpg
I was happy as it wasn't a bad fit for a first time try with no alterations though
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/g.../NovaTD226.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/g.../NovaTD227.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/g.../NovaTD228.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/g.../NovaTD229.jpg
the seam full of rust needs some repair so i gave that a quick sand down to see the full extent of the situation and cleaned up the hole ready for the td mounts insertion
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/g.../NovaTD230.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/g.../NovaTD231.jpg
As early evening approached it was time to set down the grinder and clean up, so i gave the front panel a quick prime over to keep the moisture off
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/g.../NovaTD232.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/g.../NovaTD233.jpg
And chopped up a bit of Ali to blank the original brake servo mounting point (craig had already fitted a corsa b servo and MC)
Marked
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/g.../NovaTD234.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/g.../NovaTD235.jpg
And cut, it needs to be finished off later
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/g.../NovaTD236.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/g.../NovaTD237.jpg
Thats it until tomorrow
Another good update :)
It's amazing how the innerwings still had rot hidden behing them, well actually not surprised though as it's a nova lol
Do you do all the work on your own or do you have helping other helping hands onboard?
some good progress there mate!!
Crikey, i now see what CG mean about his old shell and why he wanted a new one, but looks like it's in safe hands to Be resurrected.
Good going mate.
