Track spec spring poundages and camber are perfect for icy roads though! lolQuote:

Would be a shame to break it after such a short time of the car. Do some things with it, park it up under a car cover, maybe do the little things now and then and by next year your forget that you ever thought about breaking it in the first place.
some slightly softer springs and comfy seats and Id drive it all winter.
I did 10k miles on B road in floods and **** when i had my corsa one winter lmao
Heyup Al, been a while.
If it was fully interior'd etc then i would probably drive it through winter, but nah cba.
Looking for a Astra mk4 coupe or a ph1 172 for a daily :thumb:
Slight difference. Only trouble with the Renault is you might be tempted to get rid of the Nova. 172 is a track day toy with a warranty (when they were sold). :confused:Quote:

Ive not ruled out a Z-Let Coupe :thumb:
Peester, not been in a mk4 coupe, nor driven one yet. Been a passenger in a 172 though, well impressed. But i get what CG is saying about making me want get rid of the nova, its about as quick as a xe nova, handles v.well, but is comfy and has modern day toys.... lol
Also been looking at Golf GTI 1.8T's
Astra MK4's are sooo much better than any 90's Vauxhall!
Yeah.
A set of coilovers and some nice 17s/18s and they can look very very nice too
And a 1800 16v Coupe also will cost me less to insure than my current 1.7D £300 Astra lol
Astra mk4 SRi hatch would make most sense IMO. ZLETs are problematic tbh. Mostly cheaply sourced parts, chocolate pistons etc.
I really want a coupe!!!!
I did exactly that.... :thumb:Quote:

Quick update on the Astra.
Apologies for the toss pics, cam phone....

Not a sight i was hoping to see after owning it for 3days lol
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v8...o194Medium.jpg
Nice water, i mean oil
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v8...o195Medium.jpg
Good to see(well not really good), but no1 piston clean, confirming h/g failure thoughts...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v8...o196Medium.jpg
Can see the gasket had blown on no.1 between cylinder and water way
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v8...o198Medium.jpg
New gasket in placehttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v8...o199Medium.jpg
Head is now back on and torqued down, cambelts back on.
Just go to plug everything back in, fit aux belt, and refill all the fluids. Hopefully all will be well.
lol
Did you know it had gone when you bought it? :(
It hadnt gone mate tbh. My dad followed me home when i bought it, no smoke etc at all. Coolant level was fine.... Three days later you cant see the back of the car due to the smoke from the exhaust and its done 2L of coolant in 7miles.....
Previous owner said it had sat for a while, so i guess it just let go when i gave it a bit down the A50! lol lol
Heavy right foot lol
I think thats what did it tbh.
Sitting a while in the old owners hand.
I buy it, see what it goes like... Next day headgasket says NO lol lol
Hopefully it will be sorted and running again tomorrow
at least you know its done now and have inspected the piston/bore first hand
Yup.
It should be spot on now.
As the cambelt kit/waterpump is brand new too(well a few month old)
You can tell its done fook all miles recently by the condition of the waterpump/cambelt pullys etc
Good progress Ad.
Nice cars the mk4's.Really like that a lot ad
I has a 2002 1.8 SRi same colur as yors but a 5 door
well done chappy its a ballacke doing things like that but i like it because it gets you closer to the car like (sounds abit saft but you get to know the car like?) you fired here up yet?
Christ dude, that's a coot. Quick, Zlet it.
You dont mess about do you Adam, good going and i hope thats the end of the engine bother for you, lucky you can get your sleeves rolled up and do the gasket yourself rather than have to get some garage to do it for you.
Had to laugh about saying you couldnt see the back of the car do to the crap from the exhaust i bet it seemed normal at first till you realised 'hang on i dont drive a weasel anymore' lol
Liking the new daily Adam! Nice work there too ;)
Yeah, i thought "Fook im putting some fuel/boost through this thing", then "oh bollocks, its a clean petrol lollollollollol"Quote:

Turned key, fired up first go, fcuking get in
No tapping, no smoke, no leaks. Good job i changed the oil/filter because when i drained it the oil was white :eek:
Just done 35mile and coolant level has not moved in the tank. The rough idle has also gone, runs smooth as fook again and it seems to pull better too (not suprising seeing as now all 4cyls are burning petrol/air and not petrol/air/water lol.
Temperature gauge sits just under half, and doesnt move
Well pleased :d
Now i can start spending on some proper bits for it! Coilovers ftw :thumb:
Spud-Lucky its a job i can do myself, would probably be £300+ in a garage at a guess.
Its cost me £54 to sort. Ive sold the cd player that came in the car originally for £60, so im still £6 up
Good skills on the stereo then bud and im glad it went spot on for ya too, enjoy your new toy then dude :d
6quid up, good work dude.
Quick update on the astra, with a few dodgy cam phone pics lol lol lol
Badgeless grill fitted

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v8...o237Medium.jpg
And will soon sit much better with the help of these :dhttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v8...o239Medium.jpg
That is all.
black tint front lights needed now ad! What make is the suspension?
Just ebay jobbies mate. Think they are "Raceland"
Apparently spot on for the money.
I wanted tinted front and rears but Irmcher parts are fooking expensive!!! lol
Good motors those Astra's Ad :)
Aye, ive looked at many an Irmscher part for my van, proper fecking expensive!!
They are spot on, id recommend one to anyone!!!!
And yeah Irmscher rear lights are like £130 lol
ad ...... your making me want my old one back hahaha
lol
yess sri dave has that kit on his astra, they are great value for money and make a world of a difference.
nice work Adam:thumb:
Just to prove ive still got the nova, i touched it today lol
First job was drying the car out, the inside was pretty much soaked in damp.
Anyway,
Bought a set of rear polycarbs off Lionel, so started fitting them today with the weather being scorching at 5.5c.
Yep the novas still there
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v8...Picture001.jpg
Rear window removed (5min job!)
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v8...Picture005.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v8...Picture006.jpg
Polycarbs
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v8...Picture004.jpg
Rear fitted into seal, and into the boot. (Need cleaning and polishing)
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v8...Picture007.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v8...Picture008.jpg
I then set about fitting the sides but when attempting to remove the window, the force needed was starting to bend the window surrounds(theyve been in for 25year so its not suprising they are in there well....)
Tempted to leave the sides tbh, dont want to risk knackering the chrome window surrounds lol
Whilst i was motivated to do a bit i also got some parts of the cage covered in padding.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v8...Picture013.jpg
Got a bit bored too and remove the silver pin stripe from the side
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v8...Picture003.jpg
Also got the battery and ecu refitted and turned the key, fired up first go :d
Was a bit tappy at first, but it aint been turned over for about 2 and a half months, so that didnt suprise me....
Will probably have a better go at the rear sides sometime this week, although the weight difference between glass and polycarb wasnt huge tbh.....
Looking forward to Oulton Park now!! Just need two new rear tyres, and i could do with some shorter rear coilover springs, the rear sits was too high for my liking.
That is all for now.
Get the sides in you slacker!
