Any news on the repairs/mods ??
My apologies for the delay in an update on my car, and on other matters Nova.
To say it's been a hectic last half of 2012 would be an understatement. As you will see from my 'Profile' I have now completed my move back to the South of England, following, well let's call it a 'lifestyle change'.
After the big accident with my Nova in the Summer, it's been in the care of a couple of friends who have been working on chassis repairs; the front crossmember and chassis legs as far back as the front suspension turrets have now been replaced.
New tie bars, steering arms and track control arms have been fabricated, along with engine mounting points.
The turbocharger has had a complete overhaul after sucking in a lot of debris, and the engine is currently with Brett Sims Motorsport for a rebuild, along with some upgrades.
I've got a new intercooler and radiator ready and waiting, plus assorted interesting parts......an F1 titanium clutch cylinder, a Lotus Elise alloy pedal box, carbon fibre rear spoiler (Irmscher replica), carbon fibre front splitter.
The carbon fibre front wings and bumper were badly damaged, but repairable, however the person I entrusted with the repairs seems to have gone AWOL, and it's a 500-mile round trip for me now to go and recover them, assuming of course that he's still at his premises........if anyone lives near Binbrook in Lincolnshire and fancies doing a recce mission for me that would be useful.
No pictures at the moment (sorry), but I will get some sorted out in due course.
Happy New Year to all!
Happy new year Colin!! Good luck with getting everything sorted and look forward to seeing you out again in 2013! P.s still have that bulkhead for you whenever you may require it ;)
Nice to see its coming along cant wait to see pictures and updates, good luck and happy new year Colin
Happy new year colin lets hope for a slightly less eventfull year next year as far as development and repairs go !.The carbon splitter and spoiler sound interesting i shall await pics although i dont think the spoiler will be of use to me as i have to use factory fitted spoilers
Mega. What's different about the steering arms? :)
How far back have you gone with the turrets; are they higher up too?
Welcome back down south Colin, nearly full circle back to Bournemouth. Looking forward to pics and more updates in 2012. Happy new year!
Just unearthed a few photos from a while back, not completely up to date but they will have to do for now;

I have no idea why the last 2 photos are upside down, blame the photographer.
Looks interesting Colin ,was the front box section damaged or are you just upgrading ?
Looking good, very lightweight.
P.s. you can flip the photos upside down by editing them on Photobucket. Takes a short while to update the link though
What is the weight saving with the new tubular front end?
I was wondering if you might have given up on the Nova its been so long, very nice to see its coming back better than ever.
I like the way the space frame blends in, very neat
Colin is that t45 tube you have used and was it Tig welded i am trying to find out if you can Mig t45 or not ?
Thanks Colin do you know if you need to use a special wire or anything ,what you have done was exactly what i was thinking of doing but didnt think there would be a weight saving if i used cds ,i am a bit worried about having it done though ,incase they change my regs ,at the moment inner wings are free forward of the suspension turrets but if they changed that then the shell would be useless
Nice to see your up and about again Colin, looking forward to seeing the car complete again!!
I don't know about the wire, but I will ask the chap who did it.
My weight saving was around 5kg, but don't forget that I was already running a fabricated front crossmember, which was itself considerably lighter than the standard metalwork.
So you can reckon on a few Kg more saved if your car has a standard crossmember.
Yes agree with Royston good to see you back Colin and progress on the car do you know what size the previous box section was as i am about to order some for mine was going to go for an 80x40x2mm
Just one photo sent to me today, with it mocked up with a spare engine and gearbox I had lying around;

Obviously it won't be running with the standard tie bars as shown!
Front end frame is looking good.
Looks great! Nice to see you back updating the thread too!
Looks good
But I'm struggling to understand how the engine and box bolt in?
Is there more frame work still to be fitted?
Is all this OK with your regulations?
Looks like it has a front engine and gearbox mount like standard. Looks pretty neat, nice one.
The mountings are pretty much as they were before, albeit they are hung off the new metalwork. There's no more framework to be added!
It's all OK within hillcimb/sprint regulations, as there has been no modification to the structure of the monocoque between the centres of the wheels. If it falls outside the wheel centres then we're free to play.
re the tiebars...
are you making up some proper wishbones instead??
looking great colin, be interested in your feedback on if the front end feels different made from tube, mine sure did:thumb:
Awesome Colin, also really good to see you posting again, youve been asked after/missed whilst away bud :thumb:
Good to see you back :thumb:
Once everything is back together, the real area of development is the engine.
It's currently being re-worked with forged pistons, steel rods and a new camshaft which has been custom made by Kent Cams. This will allow the boost to be wound up a bit, and the target figure is 230bhp.
