Looks fantastic Nick :) Absolutely love the Racelines in that grey.

Just to echo what you said on the 2 pack adhesive and maybe inspire some more confidence! Adhesives nowadays are incredibly useful and stronger than mechanical fixings in many cases, there are composite strips and adhesives I know of holding up a failing stone bridge in Oxford, and you also won't see rivets on modern jumbo jets or fighter planes, the panels are glued on!! Done properly I'm sure those brackets would even hold up to an accident with luggage in the boot better than the original spot welds.

Plate certainly sets it apart, which isn't something I say often as I'm not normally a fan of private plates! Possibly a pointer towards this being your most impressive project yet too?

Thats some impressive work, it only took a passenger ride in mine to make you finally crack on then, coming out again next meet, might end up with you sourcing a lump and getting started on fitting :p

Thanks fella and yeah I'm confident with the adhesive as we've been using it with great success for years now so I'm sure it will be absolutely fine. On the plate note I just thought it would be a nice touch! Surpassing what I did with A6VXL will be a task in itself but I'm taking my time so hopefully it will come together in the end as a well built example. I have many ideas so we'll see how they pan out!

Be nice to see a ZLET engine in it IMO Nick, 99% sure if you use a early mk4 Astra Coupe ZLET engine loom you don't have all the grief with management etc, use the standard one

Lol at you recommending a zlet! I wouldnt actually do a zlet it would have to be a zleh as they don't have the balancer shafts and so on that cause the bottom end bother and suppose to be a stronger engine so I've read. I've also heard zlet management can be used but unsure if it will run an leh? I know lomas uses zlet management to run his c20let so guess it may well be possible. Thing is this project isn't about pushing barriers or breaking a sensible budget which I think may happen if I go down that route as theirs too many unknowns. I will be more than happy with a c20 truth be told. Andy bishop and rob would be doing the transplant for me and they know what their doing with novas and let engines so it would be an easy task as oppose to something they haven't tackled before too.

I absolutely hated mine lol but that's because it kept breaking lol with one thing after another, loved it when it worked tho

Guess fitting a CLET is alot easier tho as you say Nick

I would go Z18XE turbo, small block weight & handling with big block power.

Wow ! Nick you never dissapoint with your updates big or small and the attention to detail and level of finish is just awesome mate, the wheels are spot on perfect for the car and the plate is a really nice touch, I haven't seen sr interior that mint apart from in a Nova brochure lol

All I can say really is that this is going to be an epic nova when it's finished no matter what engine you decide to fit, keep up the fantastic work mate

Nick, why do you mount the licence plate onto the bumper? Over here we use licence plate surrounds so we can click the licence plates in, so the bolts don't show.

The misses is fine with my hobby although I think this may be the last project as I intend on keeping it for a good while. I don't get the time like I used to and would rather put the funds to other means. As long as I have some form of cheap fast fun I will be happy!

No idea whether UK spec licence plates would fit though but I think they've got the same dimensions compared to NL spec plates.

Thanks for the pics..... I think it may work on the rear but not at the front with the ribbed bumper etc. your gsi front bumper is a nice flat area where as mine is very different and I don't think even if it worked it would sit right. No point doing the rear without the front either really. Cheers anyway though!

If you want to avoid the screws just use double sided foam sticky pads, can get them most places that sell a plate in an appropriate 'level of stickyness'. I got some when I got some pressed metal plates from Dubmeister, and the only issue I had was on a textured bumper that wasn't really cleaned properly, where the plate bends around the front bumper (BMW E34) Other than that they're still stuck there and the front hasn't been a problem with the 2 remaining pads (should really get that fixed though)

Tape all the way for plates.

Stunning, Nick! I am a big fan of mk1's with that skinny bumper and grille combo!
I definitley don't think we see it enough.

Your car looks great, and as usual, is so clean! You should definitley look for some centre caps for your Racelines though. A nice finishing touch.

The way you like to colour-code your plastics and wheels is like being inside my head - except I think you paint better! lol

I'll join in with the composite bonding love-in, too. I bonded a brass boss into the hull of my jetski, and that hasn't been ripped out at 60mph + GPS speeds. As said, it holds panels onto cars and wings onto planes!

I've used sticky pads many times before with no issues but the front plate is under a fair bit of tension were it curves in the middle and the area is ribbed not flat so I'm pretty sure they wouldn't work. But it's not something I'm fussed over as I am trying to be a bit more period with this project exterior wise and don't mind the screws etc.

I was bidding on some caps for the wheels but they ended up going for daft money in the end. I'm sure you said in a previous post though you know we're to get them new? Warm the plate in the middle then gently bend. Then you can match the bumper shape and stick on.

They are later Revolution centre caps for RFX etc.
I too have heard that Compomotive ones fit.

IIRC the genuine Raceline ones used to fit from behind the rim.

I heard about the Compomtive ones too, but Speedline led me to believe they were correct. Trying to find a pic of RL7's with centre caps fitted it a bit of a task lol

All of these are fitted with Compomotive centre caps so they should fit lol

I've always just used Velcro but then I do have an obsession with buying number plates

heavy duty velco on my first car was bomb proof, I barely got the plate off when I scrapped it lol

Cheers Liam but the majority of them look like the genuine raceline centres. They look very similar to comp items but are a lot shallower in their depth. Check Martin kelsons thread from when he had his wheels refurbished as it shows the genuine centres. I know this as they're my old wheel/centres setup.

It certainly does.... as soon as I buy a car genuine plates/tax disc holder and dealer stickers usually go on. Looks much cleaner/proper imo.

As said above they may but Ive tried and failed with comp centres before. But Im not actually that fussed truth be told! I'll paint the rear covers that stand out and that will do if I cant find some proper fitting centres.

No rear turrets here just the short bodied gaz coilover setup. As it stands theirs still a lot of adjustment available to go much lower but I wont go any further than another 10mm now as Ill be happy at that. :)
