Look well as it is lad. New build should be immense
Love that you're re building/freshing up again.
I'm glad it still looks mint, shows it was done so well the first time.
Could ade not paint it again? He did a hell of a job.
Another rebuild  not sure how you top the current one
Thanks :-) going to do my best
perfection doesn't exist. Doesn't stop us trying!
thanks
I'm not sure. I haven't approached him yet.
not sure either. It's all about the paint finish!
Popcorn out!
I'll be doing something similar myself this winter although probably not a colour change, always liked diamond black though!
Wow, rebuilding it when it looks as good as it does. I can only imagine how good this will be!

Keith
Lovely and clean in the aches still.
It's still so clean!
Do you have a timescale in mind for it? I guess it won't be quite as involved as the last build?
Amazing attention to detail. Always loved this car and now it's getting even better!! Will be following your progress ;)
Has any one ever made or designed plastic splash guards for these ?
Plastic splash guards for inner wings? Yes, they exist, from Lokari
http://www.lokari.de/epages/62716287...tellung%2FOpel
They were even standard on MK2s in north countries like Sweden (as also headlamp washers)
cant wait to see the progress, loved the original build.
Wow, big job ahead! Was actually wondering about the durability of a dipped shell. Keith, do you think the quality of dipping and the subsequent electrophoretic coating lives up to your expectations, or would you do things differently should you do a similar type restoration/build?
Have you have paint issues like Edd?
Have you still got the G reg mk1
No, sold it 2 years ago.
Not so much paint issues, but rust issues. Thankfully a lot less than I first thought.
The arch seams have warped/split, however thankfully the rest of the car is fine (so far), last place to check is the engine bay once the engine is out, but on the face of it with the wings off it's all still perfect.
Plan is arches/quarters, full paint, management.
Bloody hell that is crazy :o Needing quarters / arches only a few years after all that work and especially as you have kept it dry and looked after it.
Must be gut wrenching when you realised it wasn't living up to the expectations :(
Good luck with the rebuild Keith - Will keep an eye out for updates :)
Hope the rebuild goes smoothly Keith!
It was dipped 8 years ago last month, it's a little longer than a few years. The way I look at it, some novas were rotten after 8 years from new, so it's come as no surprise really to have a few blemishes.
It's only the lip of the arch thats going, anyone else would probably rub them down, rust treat and paint. But I'd rather get to the source of the problem and thats the double skinned arches, replacing them with single skin.
Confident it's all down to the dip, i've read online that many others have had issues, including expensive porsche/ferrari's following the process, so take from that what you will.
Colour change is possible, still undecided.
Thanks Kev :)
Thanks Dan, Any sign of you getting into another Nova?
Unfortunately not Keith, mortgaged upto the eyeballs with plans just submitted for big extension and an almost 2 year old child so not much spare cash these days.
Iam still in a que for my escort cosworth resto so hope that is done this year as the money has been set aside for years!
Hope all is well?
All good Dan thanks - good to hear from you. Know what it's like with Mortgage, possibly looking at moving soon so I've just sold my 911 to fund it - priorities!!
Grown ups!! I had to sell the M5 to get double glazing and gas central heating almost cried!
Little bit more progress - no photos yet.
Got a Jig made, and some dolly's to move the shell around on. Taking the engine out soon and getting it prepped to go for welding.
Holly cow, I go on holiday and come back to this. Now this will be worth reading so all the best with it Keith.... Yet again ;)
Little more progress:
Had a spit made up, and two dollys to mount the shell on and make it mobile. (My brother had a set made also as he's building a 16v Saloon)

Looking good Keith jig and dollys look well made. If you wouldn't mind I'm after the measurement of the dollys
I can measure them this weekend. What specifically do you want measured? The mounting points are just measured off the chassis?
Good work.
X2 for measurements of dollys and a "how to" on the spit making.
Thats the parts starting to filter in now:
As I'll no longer be running a distributor and coil, I've got a dizzy blank and coilpack bracket from SBD.

Just need some gaskets ordered for the engine now, and I also have to measure up to get my loom made. Then I can remove the engine and get cracking on with the shell repair and repaint.
Keith
Looks good Keith - I have a mate who used to work for DTA and made their engine looms and programmed the ECU before they sold up to the new owner - he still makes the engine looms for the new owner, if your struggling for a supplier I can get a price next time I see him
I've been in touch with http://www.harnessing-solutions.co.uk/ who made Matt's loom, I think they are pretty competitive and do a really good job. Going to have it on a connector on the bulked so it's super neat.
