Nice snug fit on the cage! Is it an SD one?
Why dont you just cable tie the visior on to the bar? Seen them like that before and seems to work.
You should know by now i'm a genius....lolQuote:

Cheers for the photoshop, im thinking of agreeing with Iain, red centre caps would finish them off nicely
Lee-The sun is that thing you see when you leave the Uk.... ;)
Simps, yep, 6point SD cage.
Saw some hazard tape style stuff I was quite tempted by, skint until next month now though so i'll just have to cope with that grey spot i'm wearing into the floor for now lolQuote:

My 90A welder really struggled, on full power setting wasnt getting much penetration, leaving weld just sitting on top of the tube. But started moving the torch much slower, which gave a better weld, not amazing but should do the job :)

Got the bars back in the car and realised im not sure i have the clearance to have spreaders welded inside the car, think i may have to weld them on the underside?
Or will they be ok not actually welded to the floor and just held with the bolts? (i.e. foot/floor/spreader) with the bolts through all 3? Afterall thats how my harnesses are held to the car floor?
Should be cracking on with the rear cage over the weekend, get spreaders cut and welded to the turrets. :)
i may be wrong but for harnesses the spreader can go on the underside as in a bad situation you need them to try and pull the entire plate through the floor...
if you mount a plate for the cage on the under side theirs nowt stopping it punching it through should you end up on the shiney side...
all my cages have had plates on the inside...
J
Thats how both of my cages are fitted Adam.Quote:

There is no room for the plates inside the car on my SD one as its tight against the floor apart from on the centre hoop which needs plates welding in to bolt it down to.
my SD cage has plates on the inside :)
Do you have a dash fitted /\ ?
Get what you are saying, but the entire foot of the cage would have to push through the car floor????
edit: nvm, didn't notice the previous page with pics of the cage lol
thats the theory lol, i dont ever want to test it personally :dQuote:

Hence why my cage has plates on the inside tagged into the sills so should i end up on my roof, it has to punch a 3mm steel plate through the floor thats tagged into the sill... i know what id trust :)
Welding looks good.
Ok, cheers.
Will see what i can do but i dont think theres enough space for a spreader plate. The cage sits solid against the dash, hence why i cant lift it up any to fit spreaders under the feet on the inside. Unless i use think sheet metal? (1-2mm), even that welded to the floor is going to be better than nothing.....
Cheers Benn :)
Trim the ends, they've been cut from the look. Get a grind on it, skim off a few mm, weld on a few mm thick foot plate, then bolt/weld a plate under the floor (under side) thn bolt all the way thru.
Do it before. Easy to do.
Tsg it to the sills while your in there. (front and rear leg)
Only problem with welded on the underside is its a bastid of a job with axle stands! lol
I don't understand what the problem is? The front cage leg is tight against the dash so you can't lift it to weld spreader plates inside?
Solution is easy surely, just mod the dash, or move it out the way temporarily.
or completely remove the dash and bin it lolQuote:

i found this out after i fitted the cage and tried to get the dash in hahaha... luky i didnt have the screen in :)
If i remove the dash and fit the cage, the dash will then not go back in lolQuote:

You take the windscreen out as Skidmarkz said, isn't too difficult to remove, or just unbolt it and shuffle it for the few cm movement you need to get the legs in.
Had an hour after work today, got the rear spreader plates cut to size and welded in. Made quite a good job of the welding, set fire to the wheelarch underseal several times lol
Could only weld a 2inch seam before thermal cut out came on
But it came out pretty well :d

And because of where it is on the car(wheelarch), the weld may have put tiny holes in the metal etc(dont want rain water getting in there), so i decided seam seal it to be on the safe side. You wont see it anyway as i'll be refitting arch carpets...

Just need get the holes drilled for the bolts.
And then weld the front spreaders in, and make up a bit of box for the b-pillar legs, might get a bit more done after work tomorrow :thumb:
Looking good this adam liking the old skool ness of the car think youve got the outside spot on wouldnt change anything on it now other than keep it clean.:thumb: top work.
Cheers :)
Looks good, have you trimmed the feet on the car at the front yet?
How do you mean?
Ive just got to weld the spreaders in for the front, and then bolt it down.
Then make up some kind of box spacer for the b-pillar cage legs...
Wernt you moaning there wasnt room on the front for a foot/plate...
There isnt...
Im just going to have to put a bottle jack under the door bar to lift the cage slightly, onto the spreader plate, and then hammer it into place.
Or weld the spreader on the underside of the floor
Or cut a section out the dash under the side heater vents to give it a bit of clearance.
Why not trim a lil off then?
Did you fit that nice ground lead i gave you?
Yup, got that earth lead on, spot on. Right big bas**id
I'll probably just cut the dash a little bit. Ive already rewelded the feet back onto the legs, so cant trim those.
I would just weld it on the underside of the car? Thats what im doing on mine, doing the rear plates inside the arch too. Cant see why it would cause a problem, its still strengthening the mounting points
Got the front spreaders welded in today. Ended up welding them on the inside of the car/floor, just about managed to get the cage back in position, the legs are wedged solid against the dashboard lol
And then drilled the bolt holes for the front and rear cage feet :)
Just the b-pillar box section to make up now, and the floor to respray. Plenty of time for that though, Combe on 5th September... :)
Also got a spare drivers headlamp (cheers John), which im going hack at and make into a cold air feed :)
No probs ad, any pics of said progress?
No pics today mate, will get some when i next go back up my parents.
I called in on the way home from work, so had no cam on me.....
Nice work.
