First job was to bodge the rear beam on so the car would pivot (using TCA bushes as Im still waiting for my stiff buggers to arrive from Mr Astley). Lots of other goodies had arrived from him though (some pics will follow tomorrow), so I had a fitting kit! Then it was just a case of hoping and praying the dodgy old roof beams would support a car, and then an engine lol
Anyway, boring engine fitment pics follow, as well as half my fuel system which i fitted this morning.
About to be slid under...

Almost in....

In!

More to follow tomorrow, i was allowed a full weekend this week lol
Today, Mr Ernie popped over with a wad of cash after selling his GTe and bought my half cage from the blue one for the STICK. Then we trundled off to purchace a trailor for him in Bath.
On the way he happened to mention he had a brand new inlet gasket hanging on his garage wall! So after we dropped off his trailor and cage, we bogged off back to the barn and carried on plumbing the engine in.
Pretty much all done now, all thats missing is the Rad, a manifold, one fuel pipe and the harness!

Id forgotten how tight it was getting the Alternator on, and because Im a fool, i put the bodies on first lol Nothing like grazed knuckles to show you put some graft in, thats what I always say! Anyway, the cutout did its job, and it fits nice and snug.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2.../DSC000671.jpg
I also fitted my seats but in the wrong place, so ill have to drill more holes next time im up there lol
Big thanks to Dar and Chris for their help this weekend!
i managed to put alternator in from underneath. just disconnect the o/s track rod and you can push it right up in there with no hassle. took bout 5mins to get it all in. thats if your taking the thing out again!:thumb:
anyway been looking at this thread and i can say bt that your track weapon is coming along very nicely and doesnt look to far from being fineshed. good luck with the rest of the progress lokking forward to seeing more pics:D
I quite enjoyed putting that engine in with you. Now that the ciggies arn't in full flow im enjoying winding you up and watching you go lol
Nice work BT
Did a bit of mincing today, got my seats bolted in properly, drilled holes for the harness points and also put all the engine harness in.
I also bolted in the battery box, and made a strap using the now defunct middle lap belt. That should stop it clouting me in the bonce if i 'Do A Hear5ey' LOL. It should also keep the scrutineers happy if i take it sprinting this year!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...P/DSC00077.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...P/DSC00076.jpg
good use of the lap belt mate lol
extremely good use
Nice one Mr Lee coming together now :d
Anyway, today, I are mostly been doing the job ive been dreading the most. LOOOOOM
I shall now offer some advise to those looking for a Nova to prep as a track toy... DONT BUY AN SPI, the looms are basically titanic in proportions, unlike the MPi models where the engine harness is seperate to the car loom, SPi jobbies are one complete big bastid bunch of cable!
! Get a nice carb model with bugger all loom LOL .. unlike this little lot...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...P/DSC00078.jpg
Anyway, took me all day, mainly to remove all the horrible gloopy stuff they insist on using to hold the cables together, but i managed to chop out all the engine harness, and all the heater controls etc, and hopefully, unlike when i did the blue ones loom, its going to work first time :-)
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...P/DSC00080.jpg
Tomorrow im up there all day till late, and all day saturday, and I intend to have the dash and (currently not designed or fabricated) switch panel all bolted in and ready to go, then all i need is a rad and i can fire up the beast and see if anything catches fire lol
the good ol gunk on cables lol even after washing it makes your hands sticky lol
see if anything catches fire lmfao!!
Sri looms are a pain in the derrierre too, have the fire extinguisher ready before you connect the battery, no-one wants to see that shell burnt.
Good to see you have fun removing the spi engine loom, Lol.
Well, i got it all in, and it didnt work, due to some stupidness by me (namely chopping out the hazard plug because i was rushing. So Dar gave me his MK1 loom, and im currently having fun and games with this one too, namely splicing the dials plug onto the fecker! There be some dodgy colour differences, and theyre scary!
Well i nearly broke down in tears this weekend, basically Im a fool and wasnt concentrating when chopping the loom down, and basically I chopped the hazard block off. As we all know, the whole Nova electrical system runs through the hazard switch thanks to those spanish feckers, and after attempting to splice it back in again, it wouldnt work so loom number 1 was binned! Dar then donated a MK1 loom which I attempted to splice MK2 clocks onto... again, mammoth failiure.
So I ripped the wiring loom out of the blue shell, and it works like a charm (of course). Basically a day and a halfs work wasted! But hey, you live and learn. Next time i chop a loom down ill be concentrating
ANyway, after all the faffing around, i have the car fully wired and working. First job was to chop a bit more off the dash to get it to fit around the cage, and then make a template for the switch panel..
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...DSC00078-1.jpg
Then me and Dar went to see one of his mates who has a metalwork shop, and he cut me a piece of ally out and bent it for me, then it was back to the barn to fit the switches..
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...P/DSC00079.jpg
Then I had to do my own bit of cutting to make the ignition/battery cut switch..
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...P/DSC00081.jpg
This was the end result, quite chuffed with it TBH, especially after all the grief ive had over the last few days!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...P/DSC00085.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...P/DSC00086.jpg
Hows this for a cool hazard switch mount :-)
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...P/DSC00087.jpg
Other jobs done includes re fitting the rear beam after my bushes arrived, and fitting the front TCA's. Cant put the whole front together as the wrong tie bar bushes arrived, and I also need new inner and outer CV's which is a job for another pay cheque lol.

????????? whats the differance between the spi and mpi ???? sorry if i sound sill :(
single point injection and multipoint injection
oh my god i feel really silly now !!!!! just going to hide in that big black hole over there lol
Looking good Bt.
Today was 'Get some Flange for the Fannymould' day. Me and Dar are having the same exhaust systems made up at the same time to save a bit of cash, and we've had the manifolds for a week or so, but they come with no flanges, so today we had to bog off to Longlife to get some welded on.
Was an enjoyable trip apart from having to be seen in the GTi6 again. Dar rekons the Pug was designed to embarrass me in the sense that its fast etc.. I think its in the sense that i need to wear dark glasses so no one sees me! Not to worry though, as a forign lorry driver kicked his **** on the back roads. LOL. (basically the lorry turned off, then we caned it to the next junction, turned off and there he was again, he must've been tankin!!!!!)
Anyhoo, heres the fresh Ashley manifold, with its nice new flange...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...P/DSC00092.jpg
As usual, theres shed loads of powdercoat to scrape of, my fingers are raw i tell thee.... raw!!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...DSC00089-1.jpg
Like a babys bum!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...P/DSC00091.jpg
And fitted. Just need a rad now and i can start the biatch!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...P/DSC00093.jpg
Looked on auto route to see how that lorry appeared in front of us again (I never cane the car with you in it, I don't want to frighten you :p ) and there is a little short cut. My navigator was rubbish!!
I know you secretly love the 6. You can't fool me!
Top job by Longlife and a billy bargin price as well :thumb:
Manifold looks cool, Nice.
Dar kindly ordered up my Rad for me, so I got on and fitted that yesterday as I had a spare hour.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...DSC00089-2.jpg
Heres a gratuitous hub shot as well, still waiting to go back on when the tie bar bushes turn up.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...DSC00091-1.jpg
Today I are mostly been chopping holes in the floorpan :-) Got my cav shifter back from Lee's, had 3 inches taken off it and all the bends straightened. I was quite surprised how quickly i set it up too, basically just slipped the collar, tightened it, and found it was pretty much in exactly the right place! Things like that dont happen often lol In fact, i spent more time bashing the crap out of the quaife gearknob I had from Stu, to get the thread out of it. Fits like a glove with a bit of insulation tape :-)
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...DSC00093-1.jpg
I also plumbed in the oil cooler, but no pics of that as I wont know where to secure it till i get some fans.
Other mincing around included fitting the last of the harness points and fitting my harnesses, and also making a blanking plate for the matrix hole, this time I had to cut a corner out allow the engine harness through (christ knows where QED thinks it should be, but it aint anywhere convenient, ill tell you that, ive had to suspend the ECU just the other side of the hole!)
Bit of bathroom sealant (something i use a lot of in my work, covers up gaps in conduit a treat lol)
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...P/DSC00094.jpg
Plate and a bit more sealant
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...P/DSC00095.jpg
White sealent in a nice dark engine bay like that
Lol/\
Should of run the loom through the bulkhead by the battery tray.
Im going to paint it when its dry shortenhousen!Quote:

It's looking good mate. Job well done.
Thought about it, but left the plate till i was absolutely sure that was it for the wiring lol. Got plenty of other holes in the bulkhead to go through if need be anyway.Quote:
