Well i only need MAX. of 3 metres (even that will be a bit much) as I will be using the feed pipe as the return and will just replace the feed line. So from a motorfactors it should be around 6-8 quid (much better)Quote:

Christ you've primed all of the insides? I wouldn't wet sand it tho.
whats wrong with priming all of the inside? i can see more pros than cons for doing so, especially the state it was in.
also its an epoxy primer, i new i wouldnt be painting it straight away and didnt want it to start rusting before i got round to paint.
todays progress----
today i set about spraying the paint and laquer to the inside of the car.
mixed the paint to the correct ratios then gave the inside 3 coats of subaru sonic blue (world rally blue or 555 blue).
let this flash off then i applied my laquer. gave it around 5 coats. im quite impressed with the finish i got considering the sprayer i was using and im no professional painter. the conditions didnt help either but it will do.
sorry for the bad pics.

i found my old filler cap from my first wide arched nova, thought i could use this somehow in this one. only problem is i cant find the key, its in my house somewhere.:tard: im sure mocal could supply me with a new barrel and key.
wasnt sure where i wanted to move the filler cap to, but had 3 options.
1.weld up the original cap hole and smooth it off, then drill the hole to have this in the place it is originally.
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...8/DSC00017.jpg
2. have it mounted below the door catch.
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...8/DSC00016.jpg
3. have it mounted where the plastic vent is.
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...8/DSC00015.jpg
no matter which i chose i would have to weld up the old filler cap recess.
cleaned up the area ready for welding.
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...8/DSC00022.jpg
i then made a plate to weld to the inner part of the recess. then a larger plate to smooth the bodywork over. welded these in and ground down the welds. just got to fill it out now with fibreglass and filler.
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...8/DSC00024.jpg
decided on option 3.
so i fabricated a plate to fill out where the vent would go, will weld this in tomorrow and drill out the hole for the cap.
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...8/DSC00021.jpg
should have an update tomorrow.:)
bruce
Inside looks mint now that it's been painted. :thumb: I like the fuel filler in the door but it's a bit inconvenient. Slowly taking shape.
this is class mate will look bang on! Good work any way mate!
thanks tek, yeh it is a tadge, but at least the outside will look a lot smoother.Quote:

then i drilled the hole for the cap to fit into, think i mis-judged it as its a bit low. thinking about re-doing it, will have to weld a circular bit back in and drill another hole higher up. the striker is at the highest point it goes in this pic, it does sit lower when the door is on and closed.
what do you lot reckon?
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...3042010015.jpg
heres a better shot of the inside with my other camera. going to look awesome when i have the cage and rear stut brace in red sat in the back of there.
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...3042010006.jpg
dismantled the fuel cap so i can try get hold of a new barrel and key for it. had emailed mocal last week but havnt heard anything yet.

Looks on where it is, bit low but should clear ok.
think ill leave it then. more hassle then its worth. will sort out pipe work once ive got the tank fitted back in.
Dude this is coming along so good!! Hats off to you Brucer!!!!
thanks alot biller, still got lots to do. cant wait to see your mini again, should look sweet with the cage in it.
not much of an update, removed the majority of paint from the front end as there were a couple of layers that were uneven and i couldnt do much to to. added a bit more filler in places too.
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...0042010023.jpg
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...0042010024.jpg
also have been GIMPing some pictures. lol. GIMP is the software im using for editing pics, fairly basic but i can get the hang of it.
heres a pic of how the car looked a couple years ago.
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z.../S83007960.jpg
and this is how it will turn out kind of...wheels could be darker.
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z.../S83007964.jpg
Bottom photoshop looks well fella but I'd definately have the lower parts of the bumpers grey for a factory twist etc.
Nick.
Was just thinking the same Nick :)
Looks good mate, something about stripped Nova's that's satisfying. Maybe the anticipation of it getting new paint and looking MINT :)
the bottom of the rear bumper i have the same as the skirt colour, unsure about the front though. will see when the time comes with how i want it to look. will have to do some photoshops.Quote:

long awaited update.
havnt updated this in a while, havnt really done much worth of an update. have just been filling/sanding/smoothing the engine bay. all my hard work paid off today as i managed to get it in primer.

has come out fairly well, undecided if i want to paint the bay myself or just wait untill it goes in to the bodyshop to have the rest of the body done. dont really want to spray it where the car is at the moment because tons of shxt gets blown about.
other small things to update are...
ive got hold of a new set of keys for my fuel cap, so thats sorted now.
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...0042010022.jpg
bought my fuel pipe ready to fit on the car once its been painted.
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...1042010048.jpg
also bought a new rear bumper today from nutty nova(nathan). i needed to get a new rear bumper as mine had twisted from being stored wrong, i was also planning on smoothing it to match the front so buying this one will save me time and money in the long run. the splitter will get changed over from my old bumper.
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...1052010067.jpg
thats all for now, might have an update soon.
so untill next time, thanks for looking.
Looking nice, progress being made.
Where did you get the pipe from? I found some for a real good price imo on eBay.
Need to work out how to bend the pipe though, don't have a pipe bender.
Look good Brucer, is it in Arden Blue? Looks a flat colour in some pics?
Regarding the kit - gotta be having the grey bottoms!!
Bend the pipe by hand. It bends really easily and doesn't kink.Quote:

Bay looks good dude.
i got mine from ebay too, had to wait a few extra days as they ran out of stock. should be easy enough to do it by hand.Quote:

cheers benn, means alot.Quote:

I've just used 7/8mm copper tubing from B&Q for my fuel lines, iirc it was about £13 a roll, Vauxhall wanted £13 a metre..
went and fetched this on wednesday...
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...7052010079.jpg
was a nice cheap buy, highly unlikely ill be using it on this car but was too cheap to miss out on.
i connected up to our jump pack at work to see if all the lamps worked, only 3 did. the wiring was a bit jumbled and after trying a new bulb in that lamp (and still not working) i decided to re-wire it all.
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...6052010074.jpg
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...6052010075.jpg
stripped all the old wiring down and planned my route of attack. scotch locks seemed a decent idea to connect all the lamps into one piece of wire. made up 2 mini looms for live and earth then attached them to the lamps. ended up looking like this...
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...7052010077.jpg
alot tidyer, it also made all 4 lamps work.:)
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...7052010076.jpg
im sure ill find another car to fit it to for a bit of fun. may buy another bonnet to fit it to so i can swap it over anytime i feel like.
have also got a quote for sand blasting and powder coating my suspension and roll cage/rear brace. they are as follows..
153pound for rear beam, both lower arms, both knuckles, both tie bars, calipers, drums and drum back plates.
100-150pound for the 6point cage inc. door bars and rear brace.
once ive had the car painted ill be having all that done.
update on the car hopefully tomorrow.
bruce
todays update saw the bay painted. rather pleased with the outcome even with the conditions i was in. heres the pics...

decided to take it off axel stands which its been on for 6months, where has the time gone. i had forgotten how low the car sits, even with standard springs and shocks!!
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...8052010099.jpg
had a tidy up then covered it up with a new tarpaulin i bought, the other side of it is blue which pretty much matched the colour of the primer. lol. i thought id leave the green side out though.
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...8052010104.jpg
bruce
bought this off a member on here to replace the middle part of my slam panel i was missing.
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...5052010111.jpg
i had made tabs on my old one to fit in place but looked untidy, decided to overlap this one as it looks neater. cut off the excess bits and fitted it down.
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...5052010112.jpg
much better i think you will agree.
bruce
That colour looks sooooooooooo nice :thumb:
Looks great dude.
Nice progress dude, been that long already?
Great work in the bay :thumb:
its been 19months since i took it off the road, 6months out at my friends farm. once its been painted ill bring it back to my garages where i live. cant get hold of my painter though, hes had a bereavment in his family so its understandable.Quote:

thanks for the other comments chaps!
i really am dragging this out too long!!
but i gave the whole exterior a DA and rub down, still got a few bits to sort out before i want it painting. atleast this way ill have some more dough to buy parts once its been painted.
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...3052010132.jpg
sorry for the pittance of an update. lol
Looking good - You painting it yourself ? :)
as much as id love to i think its best left to proffesionals. the engine bay and inside wont be seen as much as the exterior so was happy to do those.
Best to get the body done the first time mate. I'm glad I chose the pro route and not tried to do it myself at home.
The build may be dragging out but it'll be well worth it in the end so no need for the rush imo. I felt the same at one point but the bodywork is excellent now so It was well worth waiting a while for that to be sorted. So I don't mind waiting a few months to get other stuff in order before it's done ;)
