manta it up lol, you paying :P
and they are to heavy lol.
and those bits were of ebay :)
They're not dear, and they'll handle a darn sight better than a dolomite.
mine is so nice to drive! you can pick them up for less than £1k and sell the bits off it! Or buy a 1.8 for a little more and save yourself money on a sump, dizzy and rwd conversiona dn engine mounts, plus g/box.
hmmm you have my attention. tell me more lol.Quote:

Go for the 1.8 berlinetta saloon! It'll have all the bits you need. I'm running a few goodies on mine, nout that is too dear to source.
about the rustQuote:

ok, seeing as it was pissing it down today, i jumped in the shed to do some more work on the engine as opposed to the rusty nova.
got a piston ring groove cleaner through the other day, so first job was to clean all the shizzle out of the grooves and generally clean them, the tool works really well and im chuffed with the results.
Pistons after a really good clean.
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c3...6/DSC_2868.jpg
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c3...6/DSC_2869.jpg
then came the piston rings, i have never done these befor so was a bit cautious as i didnt want to brake any.
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c3...6/DSC_2875.jpg
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c3...6/DSC_2876.jpg
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c3...6/DSC_2877.jpg
so first set of three on the lowest groove (2mm).
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c3...6/DSC_2874.jpg
Second ring, noting the TOP on the piston ring
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c3...6/DSC_2878.jpg
and Third,
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c3...6/DSC_2879.jpg
i also did have a tool to help, but found doing it with my fingers to be better. i didnt brake any thank god,
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c3...6/DSC_2883.jpg
then i cleaned up the conrods and put in their new bearings, noting that 4 have a hole and 4 dont so they have a specific place
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c3...6/DSC_2872.jpg
thats about it for today. gonna probably get some new circlips for the conrods and also need to get some sealent for the main bearing on the flywheel end.
Nice work, nothing like some nice clean internals. What's this piston ring groove cleaning tool you're talking about? I was just going to wire brush them...
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Piston-Ring-Gr...item2301459c53
thats the tool i used, works wonders i say
done some more work today, chucked the pistons back together, gudgeon pins, and circlips.
then compressed all the pistons, and put a bit of oil in the bores and got all the pistons in, lightly tightened the bolts on the big ends.
and then new head gasket and chucked the head on and lightly bolted it down.
will get some pics soon
next is buy some lifters, and torque down the top end, then sort out timing belt shizzle. and get the sump etc all on
ok, so got some sealent today for the bottom end.
and started re assembling bits and torqued down the bottom end
New seal
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c3...6/DSC_2899.jpg
New gasket

coming along mate, next time try and get a metal oil pump gasket much better imo :thumb:
To be honest I just snap an old piston ring in half and use that to clean them!!
looks good mate! keep it up!!
cheers guys, yeh i would of used an old piston ring if i had one!! lol
been looking at vauxhall chevettes today. and liking the idea of sticking it in one of them
/\ do it there Sweet
lol, anyone got any information of redtops in chevettes
/\ nope but loving the build. coming along nicely!
You can put whatever you want in the chevette mate. check out this thread with a V8! http://retrorides.proboards.com/inde...d=36945&page=1
quality link mate thanks
kadett c would be my choice if you can find one!
manta 1800 gearbox and sump and mounts, abuse the tunnel a bit, poss a specially made prop, talk to a guy calles djivesp on mig or dejaaiiii! as they both have xes in kadetts
djivesp has a 2.0 8v turbo in a kadette, the guy is a legend he has helped me with so much info when building mine.
what about this as a shell for your engine i want
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/OPEL-MANTA_W0Q...item2c51e957db
i know a lad selling a 2.0 manta soon if might be something your after?
ok, the final stint.
got my lifters through, squished them in oil and installed them:
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c3...6/DSC_2912.jpg
then unwrapped my cams, and put some graphogen paste onto the surfaces. and tightened down the cams in the right order.
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c3...6/DSC_2916.jpg
New seals on the ends of the cams.
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c3...6/DSC_2919.jpg
i also bought some new bolts of ebay for the rocker cover so put on my new gasket and bolts the rocker cover down just to keep some shizzle out.
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c3...6/DSC_2920.jpg
just need to get as bottom pulley now which has the timing mark on, then i can time it up. im sure i have one laying about, just cant find it lol.
then save for some kinda car lol.
engine looks the t*ts mate, if only Opel Asconas were easy to find... id love one of them... dolomites look good too, id like to build a LET hillman imp, are they mid or rear engined?
http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/f...a/Untitled.jpg
there are the timing marks mate :thumb:
The engine should be timed up without the bottom pulley on mate
never time it with the alternator pully on it... there all different, so the mark doesnt line up..
help me out here... a chevette is based on the kadett C iirc?
in that case you want a manta 18s mount and kadett c rubber on one side, and an Omega A (carlton in the uk iirc?) rubber on the other side.
manta 18s sump, but you dont need the pick up pipe.. there overpriced imo. just bend the c20xe pipe a little, that's the only difference between them. lengh is the same.
Correct mate, a chevette is a kadett c with a manta/cavalier mk1 style front end
cheers, in that case you need:
manta 18s mount with 1600 kadett C rubber on the right side, and an omega A rubber and mount on the left side.
lol i need to find the manta stuff first. the sumps possibly dont excist lol. and the rear axles have vanished lol.
but thanks for the info on the engine mounts and pick up pipe.
thanks for the comments as well guys :)
and thanks for the timing belt information.
Drop it in the 5 door :p :pQuote:

its just a little wider, thats all.
kadett C 1600 axle is even better, but there impossible to find and F'ing expensive.
the mounts are easy to make, my mate made his own mounts (placed the engine a few inches backwards)
edit**
you're planning to run carbs iirc?
what's also an option is kadett D gte ignition or from an ascona 1.8i. bolts straight onto a c20xe.
then run a pegeot 205 1.9 gti dizzycap. it's the same on the inside but it's shorter then the opel item.
i'm not sure of the clearence with the heater though.
what 5 door, both of mine are 3 :DQuote:

yeh gonna run twin 45's and yeh i have read in my "research" that people have to move the dizzy or coil pack. so thats something for me to take into consideration. and im planning on running mega jolt.Quote:
