so the plan for tomorrow is my brother has 2 more plates left to weld in, do alternator recess finish off welding all the plates in fully (very little to do ) then the car can go to the body shop and the engine bay painted
but at least the engine will physically bolt in the engine bay now which is nice!
spot on mate :thumb:
cheers
Nice work.
You not welding the bulkhead seams?
yeah they are being done tomorrow car carpet and interior are still in it thats why we couldnt weld the last of the pates in due to the carpet etc will be removed tomorrow and all around bulkhead will be welded 5 min job compared to trial fitting enigne etc and figuring out where the plates go lol
You lot don't hang about!
Good job,nice welds too..
lol yeah my mate Mike found out the hard way on the bulk seams, i told him to make sure it was all cleared of carpet/deadening etc so when his mate welded it up, woopsy some one didn't,and a fire broke out, costing his mate a new driver window (punched it through to put the fire out) new dash-wiring loom-toad alarm, not good eh!
Keep up the good work.
Scott
Keep it up mate, looking good! :)
cheers no point hanging around is there!
did a little bit more mincing on the nova today
started by finishing off the alternator recess
went from this
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...a/DSC00413.jpg
then used the bit that we had cut out
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...a/DSC00414.jpg
tacked in so recess is formed
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...a/DSC00415.jpg
then weld it
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...a/DSC00416.jpg
then clean things up as plate was to large and protruded out form chassis leg nothing a bit of sanding couldnt fix
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...a/DSC00417.jpg
bulkhead seams
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...a/DSC00420.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...a/DSC00419.jpg
on its wheels welds primed and engine bay being scotched and things masked off ready for paint shop tomorrow
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...a/DSC00421.jpg
Some quick progress there.. going to be a cracking car this :)
i think what will make or break the cari s the quality of the plug cover ;)
I only hope it lives up to the rest of this quality build! :)Quote:

well bit of a slow day today
we seam sealered the the welded seams etc to day at 9.am this moring was supposed to go roud to be painted this after noon but i think due to the fact it was so cold the seam sealer was only just starting to set at 5pm this evening so will have to be tommorw or monday for paint now
everything was masked off whilst rubbing down and priming the rack is loose and will be removed for paining when at body shop
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...a/DSC00424.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...a/DSC00422.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...a/DSC00423.jpg
but whilst the seam sealer was setting we painted all four arches and the whole underside of the car 15 year protection better then your usual underseal!
battery died on phone so the pics are during the painting process the struts were removed after these pics to get in behind and up inside the turrets :) suspension is just temporary untill my coilovers arrive
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...a/DSC00429.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...DSC00427-1.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...a/DSC00430.jpg
will get better pics tomorrow before the shock absorbers etc are refitted and when its dry a second coat will be added added aswell
Looking good all underneath painted mate - Did it take long to do ?
Your thread confuses me, whose typing? Kris or Gary? lol
Either way - looking stonking, very neat application of seam sealer :thumb:
Did you weld the seams insides the arches? Looking good.
:thumb:yeah all painted underneath took a few hours will be doing another coat todayQuote:

its me kristan than usually posts up the progress (its pretty much a joint effort maybe more so on my part as my brother is relatively new to all this and is an electrician by trade and i am a mechanic etc but it is his car and his ideas for the build i just help it happen sooner rather than later lol) i user my user as garys (my twin brothers) internet isnt working at present thats the reason for thw 2 wip threads on the same user sorry for the confusion glad you like though olly :thumb:
yeah benn the seams have all be welded and the full strengthening plates added, didnt feel the need to seam sealer inside the wheel arches painting is more than enough in my opinion:thumb:
Nice build so far. One concern, is the F28 mount welded to the chassis plate or the chassis leg? Wouldn't want that to tear off with the plate!
its half welded on the the leg itself and half on to the plate!
i am confident the plate will not come off it has been welded heavily, considering the std mount had 4 spot welds i dont think it will come off in a hurry
Good work.
The hammerite smooth blue is a good match.
yeah once it has dried a little it darkens down and is almost a perfect match for the exterior :) very happy with it once it has gone of i can get cracking mounting the pump and new brake and fuel lines :)
cracking build there matey - talk about a perfect base to work from.
Looking forward to seeing the final thing...
thank you mate it should be about in 2009:)Quote:

Cracking on now, cant wait to see the bay done, and engine in!
Scott
me neither will be worth the wait
Good work :)
thanks alot
might be worth welding in a brace across that rear mount mate as they tend to flex, especially the power you'll be running. The GTE/GSi had them as standard.

Good work so far dude.
