I wouldnt argue with your reasons for doing it at all. Personally I find things like that in the line of sight a massive distraction, likewise stripped track cars with no dash. It would put me off more than losing the few kg's had gained in terms of performance. :thumb:Quote:

Why does you just run 6dial clocks? They have everything in one.

as benn said, Id get some 6 dial guages and then get a second, high pressure oil switch and a ****ing big red light.
If youre keen, strip the clocks and replace the revcounter with something better with a shift light.
I hate anything above the dash, wipers adjusted right down, whole screen polished and rainx'd, does my head in otherwise!
Surely with the 6dial clocks you wont need an extra light.
But if you really need one, wire an extra one up to one of the spare lights along the bottom, like the tow bar light. (as in you'll be towing it home if you dont notice)
its not hard to get it to fit well! look mine dosent fit the best but fits alot better than yours lol looks dreadful which is a shame

Im with adam on this, he's got more important things to worry about than decent fitting gauges. Shame about the sump leak, should be ok getting the manifold off though as it probably hasnt been on too long?

You done the rubber sump mod? i've got some poper vw sump sealer (£18 a tube lmao) you can have if you want it.

personally, an oil pressure guage is handy, but on track you want a high pressure switch and a big light. Nothing subtle, a big **** off red lamp in your field of visionQuote:

And aye the std oil pressure switch is a bit useless, it comes on at about 5psi, and with 5psi oil pressure your engine wont be running for long. lol

My oil lighte is better at lighting the interea than the standard light.
Also alot easyer to fit the gauges's to a mrk2 dash.

Cracked on with the exhaust earlier, got the flexi piece welded to the system, and then clamped to the exhaust manifold. All fits fine.
But being a cheap Sportex system the fitment isnt the best, so im going to have to have a play with the middle section/backbox to try and get it sitting better as its going to tap on the transmission tunnel under hard cornering.

Meaning that I struggle to see how once it's done, Adam can be happy with how it looks, after he's put the effort in wiring them up, it wouldn't have took much for get them looking half decent... without the need of filler, fibreglass, smoothing etc.

Why the flexi? Was it not a flage like a normal xe system?
The system had a standard cav type flange on, but im not using a std exhaust manifold so it was no where near lining up, so i chopped that off and put the flexi in.
Will be fine when i get chance to twist the mid section slightly to sit it further away from the transmission tunnel.
Gonna put a flexi on mine at some point, how much was yours ad?

Ive welded it to the system, and just clamped it to the manifold, so i can disconnect the system and manifold should i need to :)
Yeah, where from? I spoke to my garage about one and they said "You dont want one of them welded on, they get expensive!"

At the end of the day, its two gauges held in with a bolt, in a track/fast road car.
I really couldn't careless if they aint mirror smoothed into the dashboard or not lol

Quick update, changed the sandwich plate o-ring earlier on, hoping thats where the oil leak was coming from.
Also changed the box diff seal, had to remove the bearing carrier to get the new seal in place, bastid of a job! Lost all the box oil too, so now need another 2L of that.
Have also fitted gte 6 dial clocks and removed the cally gauges for now.
Exhaust is now spot on, track rods tightened to the steering knuckles, so its ready to test drive. Will put a bit more petrol in tomorrow and have a nervous drive down the street and back lol lol
