The saying "smokes like a 1.8 Sierra" didn't come from no where... lol
my wpyot is:
driving to leicester (usually enough on it's own) to 'mark out' an industrial excavation job, because according to the 3 blokes we had sent to the site claimed it was impossible to sort out.
i got there & said to the client, 'just what is it that we need to be doing?' he then proceeded to spend less than 30 seconds describing the job exactly, whilst walking round it pointing at things.....he then said 'i've already shown your staff twice'....
and if that wasn't enough, i then had to sit thru a 45 minute induction followed by an exam, then had to spend another 30 mins having a 'toolbox' talk about apparent site issues that were actually nothing to do with our part of the project.
so all in all it took me from 7.15 till 11.00 to spend 30 seconds going over what the numpties already knew, but none of them appeared capable of simply getting on with it.
sorry, but the comment was about sierras....
xr4i was a tail happy thing with a thirsty ship anchor of an engine...
xr4x4 wasn't so tail happy, but still had the shocking engine.....
as for xr2.. ok, they were good.. the mk1 was hampered by having a Xflow lump.... the mk2 had the cvh, which was better but still in crappy carb form wasn't great.... now a mk2 xr2i would have been better...
i will never ever in my life ever ever (and did i mention ever?) like a mk3 escort of any description..... shyte engine & box.... poor chassis, and i ended up in hospital for a week, couldn't see straight for a month, couldn't walk for 2 because of a sodding mk3 1.6ghia the mrs owned that folded round me at surprisingly low speed in an accident.. oh & i still struggle to put names to faces 20 years afterwards......and my left leg still lets me know when the weather is about to change cos of the ironwork in it.......
mr southie...... i think i might agree with you...
i know i upset people wuth my views about certain engines, but anything gm made with a turbo that runs on petrol does appear to have a lot of problems compared to other makes.... including ford.....
ps. the cossie sierra engine was unique.. they all claimed it was based on the ford pinto lump, but it was actually based on the dimensions of one.. it was way stronger. this is where gm went wrong, they got the idea that a std n/a block would cope with turbo boost... it needs a lot of cash to do it properly.
Bloody hell, you agree with me who knows feck all apart from photoshopping lol
sounds spot on to me.
ive had a mk1 fiesta with a kent/crossflow engine in, and it was guttless compared to most other manufacturer equivalents.
ive also owned a mk4 escort, which underneath, is practically the same as a mk3, and out of about 15 cars, its the worst handling car ive owned.
the cvh went from poo carb, to much better in MPI form like you say. i loved how that mpi engine sounded, but it blew up on me, despite driving it gently 90% of the time.
had a capri aswell, which the rear diff exploded, and seized/locked up on me, which was the end of that car.
all bar a mk5 fiesta, which was relatively reliable, with a decent zetec-se engine in, ive not had alot of fun or luck from fords myself.
Hole of a place i work at carnt do it for much longer total tossers i work with. Love to give a few of them a good hidin. Supervisor is a total waste of time sorts nothing out.
