Spud, your cranking speed would be miles lower than Lion's due to him having no engine compression, lack of spark plugs,Lol.
So would be less likely for your light to go out when cranking.
Good stuff Iain, nice to hear it fire up. Good oil pressure on the gauge when it ran???
Gauge is broke from when I made the clocks smoke lol
lol lol
Those exhaust rubbers are a ******* to fit lol, they are solid!
good stuff iain! Check the comment on your youtube vid lol
lol
congrats on the start up hunny, i cant remember without looking how in depth your rebuild went but if there is new rings in there dont be tempted to keep firing it up and having it running without first braking the rings in properly first

Its come along way since last time i checked up on this.
Well done Iain, great work as usual :thumb:

Being a bit too "pansy" with it can cause early wear
As you say it depends who you listen to, Most engine builders say to "bed it in" how your going to use it, Something that is a Must on tractors!
I've always done the warm it up under little load, then load it right up and done no engine braking.
I wouldn't suggest leaving it idling but with Iains build its a bit of a pain if not.
Tina's engine running-in process was done the M6/M1 on the way to Billing lol
so off the limiter everywhere for 400miles lolQuote:

Got the right XE coolant pipe to suit the silicone hoses. For anyone fitting Roose XE silicone hose kit, THIS is the pipe you need (not the one that has one on the back and one on the side):

Finding a 28k Nova in the scrappy meant I got myself an almost-new header tank, I'm sure you'll all be pleased judging by the uproar from the dirty header tank pic lol
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2a/215.JPG
Cooling system in the bay finished:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2a/216.JPG
T-piece is a messy bodge IMO, not too keen on it, but it'll do for now:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2a/217.JPG
Here's how I'm mounting the header tank as I boxed over the original screw hole. Cut down the tab and used a rivnut, pro job lol
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2a/218.JPG
Nova Ian sold me some dodgy goods (OK so they were free but still dodgy lol), fuel line was leaking and the gaffa tape wasn't up to the job of fixing it:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2a/219.JPG
So whipped these bad boys out of an Ecotec at the scrappy and fitted some barbed 8mm joiners:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2a/220.JPG
Extended to the right length, now has fuel clamps on the joiners too btw:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2a/221.JPG
Fitted up:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2a/222.JPG
And joined to my 8mm ID plastic lines under the car:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2a/223.JPG
On to the killswitch, earthed one side of the '1' using the supplied resistor:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2a/224.JPG
And looped a +ve back to the other side of the '1'. Not going to bother with the '2' side I don't think, as this will currently immobilise the ECU and cut spark (I think?):
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2a/225.JPG
Next job was sort the wiper linkage, it was sitting too 'vertical' which meant the wiper sat at an angle and scraped the tabs on the side against the screen. Not good.
Smashed the linkage with a hammer (literally) to get it to sit a bit better:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2a/226.JPG
This corner is right up at the scuttle now:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2a/227.JPG
Straight wiper arm and 18" GM blade:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2a/228.JPG
Wiper arm is actually a Citroen ZX straight arm, shortened with a Nova end welded on:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2a/229.JPG
Sits at a better angle now and causes me no problems:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2a/230.JPG
Brap brap, looks terrible but it'll do:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2a/231.JPG
Next up, redoing things I thought were sorted. I bought cheap balljoints and track rod ends from my local motor factors (£5 each or there abouts). Black and orange box, made by 'CD' I think, I will never buy these parts again!
Well the car hasn't moved an inch and look at the state of these boots! Bottom balljoint:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2a/232.JPG
Track rod end:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2a/233.JPG
So I'm replacing them with better quality (I hope) QH parts. New bottom balljoints:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2a/234.JPG
And TRE's already fitted, QH ones again:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2a/235.JPG
And what I'm working on at the moment, a cut down heater matrix:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2a/236.JPG
funny with the ball joints / tca's..
good work lionel.
Holy sh!t batman! Spaghetti junction :) but +1 for soldering and heatshrinking, only way to do it imo..
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2a/225.JPG
Weird how them joint boots have rotted so badly! shows how cheep they are though..
As for the T section the only other way to make it neater is to get it as close to the rad outlet as possible and keep the jubilee clips turn underneath out of sight, but I'm afraid theres not many other ways to do it, as you need the feed to the inlet manifold, i don't think its wise to block it of like some do IMO.
But that aside mate, nice update and its coming on well now..
Scott
The t-piece isnt needed. Just block off the 8mm pipe from the inlet.
Good work Iain, getting closer.
Good progress chap! Iirc jonlem posted a pic once of the water hose t'd into one of the heater matrix pipes. Looked a lot neater imo.
But surly mate if there was no need for the water system to flow through the inlet then GM would not of made it too, and the SBD inlet has it too, so i fitted it into it.Quote:

Meh its not the end of the world re. the t-piece, it's in now just think it could be neater.
yeah was gonna say - theyre crimps not solder.. solder tends to be a bit brittle..
You want a twin ported header for the t-piece situation. I also have a similar t-piece bodge on my return; but ive got a twin port header now so sorting that out soon myself.
Grrrr :mad:Quote:

Im not a fan of any fuel pipes being joined in the engine bay to be honest. Other than that good work.
Too late Mazz mu ha ha
Paul all the standard Nova lines join in the bay don't they? TBH these barbed connectors are awesome, I can pull on them with my entire bodyweight and they won't pull come off (and thats with no clamps on!)
I always have fuel lines made up that join under the car to the hard pipes.

Good work, Keep the water outlet from the inlet manifold as its ment to be there. Fuel lines look good.
On with my heater matrix assembly. Cable tie through the fins keeps the matrix in the housing:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2a/237.JPG
Handily uses the 2 threads already there to keep it on (although one of these sheared off today so hoping it can stay up on just one bolt...)
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2a/238.JPG
Drivers side hits inlet manifold as expected:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2a/239.JPG
So chopped a bit off:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2a/240.JPG
Hoses connect up fine and doesn't look like it'll rub on the manifold too bad:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2a/241.JPG
Hmm need a blower here...
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2a/242.JPG
Ah ha! Got an idea. Take one scrap Nova and chopy chopy:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2a/243.JPG
Shape, flatten, weld, paint and we get this:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2a/244.JPG
Wahey a small self contained matrix/3 speed fan weighing 2.8kg (dry):
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2a/245.JPG
Dashboard... Mockup dash shows where I need to chop (remove sides for rollcage and extend column hole for more clearance)
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2a/246.JPG
Nice black dash:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2a/247.JPG
Chop chop:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2a/248.JPG
Just needs a bit of touch up paint and it's good to go:
