Looking better now Adam
A mega spec 1600 would suit this car nice :p lol

Just fitted the new steering rack, and refitted the wiper motor etc.
Just need to dig the gsi brake servo out the shed(its buried at the back), and that can then go on.
Engine should then be going in over the weekend :D (weather is looking top notch too! )
And then get cracking with the cage :thumb:
Also need a few bits if anyone has them:

Looks good mate... Replied to your wanted thread...
Chris
Had a bit of time today, but didnt get much done.
Got the tiebars/tca's off, removed the old bushes. Got new Yellow poly's to fit.
Also dug the engine out and start bolting bits back on, trying to remember where everything went and where i left the bolts lol lol

Got most of the engine built back up, just need to swap the fly, fit the loom and starter motor. Hoping to have it in tomorrow :)

Exhaust manifold could do with a re-paint, but i just want the engine in and running asap.
Also sprayed up the fuel tank in the only paint i had lying around, the remaining "silver green halfords" rattle can i had left lol
Wont be seen anyway, and any paint will protect it :)
Looking good Ad Colour staying red?
2 questions:
1) why the lame ass powercap?
2) what the **** were you doing for the rest of the day you big gay mincer!
wanna come do mine when you done this lol
you seam to make quick progress unlike me :(
Yeah the cam cover etc is staying red as i cba repaint it. Should look ok me thinks.
Al, powercap, why not??? Gives more room, bit more induction noise and should maybe give 1-2hp at peak revs.
For the rest of the day i was drinking and watching Stoke play :p lol
Ste-Nahhhh, its taken me far to long get this far lol
Its really crap having a project spread over months because when you come to fit stuff you realise youve got no clue where the bolts are/where they bolt to etc lol lol
Had a good few hours on the car today, and it was sunny
GSi brake servo and MC fitted, had to recut and reflare the ends of the brake lines though as it seems for some reason the early MC have double flared unions, whereas all the late ones have single "point" flares.
Got there in the end though.
Fuel lines off the old shell have also been refitted.
Engine lifted off the stand

Pot fly removed, compared with flat
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v8...P/DSCN1392.jpg
"New" clutch fitted too (i.e. out of Lee H's garage, pmsl lol )
Oil cooler and F20 fitted, still looks nice and shiny considering its been outside for 5months

Car hoisted up

(some swearing at this point)
Engine/box slid underneath

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v8...P/DSCN1402.jpg
Rear mount modded for spacers, and cleaned up as im going weld a plate across the top of it for extra strength.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v8...P/DSCN1401.jpg
Then went to hoist the engine up and get it mounted when i noticed that the drivers engine mount has a 1" inch crack through the metal of it
Not sure whether the crash caused it, or the weight/stress of the old engine did, but yeah its fcuked and has been binned.
So i need a new drivers mount, will probably buy a set of solids though!
So i had to leave it at that until the new mounts arrive.
Not a bad days work though, considering my recent work rate has been zero,Lol.
lol good to see progress. I know where your coming from about not knowing where nuts/bolts go. Ive got 3 buckets worth of nuts/bolts/washers/more bolts mixed together from 3 different cars lol
Whats that inlet hose from? Do you know if the plastic pipes going to fit between the engine/supsension strut. The standard hoses are squashed into place
Its off a V6 i think, with the air temp sender in...
I think it fits as it came off John H's engine, so i assume it fits.
Ive got an original SRi airbox to use too, if i can get it to fit the xe inlet hose.
As the old induction cone is fitted on the astra, and looks a bit chav imo
Yeah the bolts are a nightmare, spent about 40mins today trying remember what a xe starter motor bolt looks like, then randomly found a bolt lying in the grass next to the car, which fits lol lol
lol @ random bolt.
Great that youve got it half in lol
Will be good to see it in and finished.
Good luck dude :D
Cheers.
Just bought some solid mounts off Ebay, so hoping have them this week sometime, so i can crack on :)
wow, make it look easy..
nice one dude.
Cool, good work mate. :thumb: Can't remember if you said, but is this a pure track car or road use as well?
looking good adam, yep, correct, the inlet hose is off a vectra v6.
Looking forward to seeing an Xe with an airbox, I don't recall ever seeing one

Airboxes FTW, I ran one on my corsa :)
Powercaps hmm, got a habit of killing torque and just generally considered a retrograde step to the sfi box.
What inlet pipe are we taking about?
As said its looking good, why the oil cooler? Most late ones dont have them...
^ think the plan is tracking it so wise to have an oil cooler fitted really
Good progress Ad, sorry but i had to laugh when you said about the snapped engine mount (it's normally me that has **** all luck like that!)
Solids FTW :thumb:
The one that's clamped straight to the power cap dude.Quote:

Why cant you use the normal xe one? I used the early one as the late one had that odd leg it in..
Agreed :)Quote:

well thats a bit off a pain in the **** with the mount mate but if you have some solids on the way no bother eh good work though!!
Mostly track/pod.Quote:

Benn-If vauxhall fitted a cooler to a xe in a std cav/cally, then fitting one on mine is definently a wise move imo
As i plan on caining the tits off this engine just like the old one :thumb: :D
And thats just what pipe came with the inlet.....
Ali-Ive got two SFi boxes spare so could try it with one, probably wont be that arsed about it though and just leave it as is now.
And yep, airboxes ftw.
Scott-Aye, i was suprised to see the mount fcuked, properly cracked straight through and would of probably fallen in two if i had used it
Got some solid mounts on the way off Ebay, £89 delivered
Once they arrive can get them bolted on, and the engine lifted up and bolted in. Then hubs/tie bars etc all back on, fuel tank on and get the car back on the ground. Its just the cage holding things up atm as i just dont have the time fit it.... Might even chuck my buckets, and the dash in, and just run it cageless for the time being. Want it at Nat day next month if i can.... Might be short for time though.
oi lolQuote:

mines being stripped to a shell bar the engine and running gear, then rebuilt lol
and it will be a national lol
But you can work on your car daily......
I usually get to my parents place and then realise ive left the trolley jack at home...=hour wasted lol
1 hour a night then about 10 hours over the weekend :p
Exactly, wayyy more than me. :(
I usually make a plan to get up here early on the weekends, but then get too tempted to go out fri/sat night up town, spend stupid amounts of money, and then feel too rough to do anything the next day.... lol lol
Thatsa why not drinking and being grumpy and not going out help..lolQuote:
